I have been shaving with an electric razor for years to get rid of the peach fuzz. I tried shaving with a real razor about two months ago and it gave me 2 ingrown hairs. Has anyone else had this problem? I loved the way it made my skin feel, though.
I told my husband I wanted to shave with a real razor while he was standing at the sink. He said, "OK," and handed me a razor. He didn't think a thing of it. Then again, I've worked pretty hard to desensitize him. He's seen me roll needles on my face! |

I've been shaving peach fuzz for a long time, and I absolutely cannot fathom what all the fuss is about. Ladies, you shave everything else. The face is no different.
I could not care less whether or not my boyfriend knows or would care. I just don't think it's strange. There are a lot of other places that get shaved or waxed that I would be more concerned about discussing with boyfriends. |

Hi, I'm a new poster (but very long time lurker). I had been using one of those vibrating blades to remove peach fuzz for a few years now, especially as it seems to grow in more as we age and I hate the peach fuzz. And I can see it very well, especially in light.
But I had read in other places that shaving could induce changes in the skin that promote hormones to alter the type of hair on the face from the peach fuzz variety (vellus) to the darker hormone induced variety (androgenic), especially in women near the ages of peri-menopause (40+).
Has anybody else seen this? |

I hope not, I've just started shaving, got fed up with every other costly method, so far so good. |

Really hard to say because everyone is different. However, I do not suspect that physical irritation could cause such a dramatic change in hormones, especially if you're more gentle with the shaving. The only thing I can think of is that you start panicking when you're shaving, which causes you to be stressed which then releases a cascade of hormones... |

It is most likely that you are 4o that is causing that.
if your hair really did change from something-wouldn't it change all over your body and not on one specific spot.
just like shaving your legs does not make your hair grow more, it just looks that way because you can not see the hair for a few days then it comes back.
shaving does not get under your skin, it just shaves the top part of your hair, lol. |

Hrmmm... Yes I know that shaving in general doesn't have that affect. I wish I could find those articles again. They weren't about the myth that shaving makes the hair grow in thicker/coarser but about how at a certain age, the irritation caused by shaving can create a hormone shift that would cause areas that are typically androgen hairs on men become androgen hairs on women (like the face, but not say, the legs).
It sounds like from what people are reporting that this isn't the case. Or perhaps it happens to women who have hormonal problems (beyond aging) anyway? |

There's another thread of this. I don't doubt that it's a great exfoliating method, what scares me is the hair that grows back that can vary from each person to the next. Not trying to look like an ape man. |
LOL I have the same fears. I don't have any facial hair to begin with so my logic is "if it aint broke, don't fix it". It would be horrifying for me to try this once and be stuck doing it for the rest of my life. I think I'll pass on this tip. |
Actually, you do have facial hair. We all do. Yours just may be so fine you don't see it in your mirror. Not saying you should shave if you don't want to, but if you did you would notice that foundation makeup would apply more smoothly and look more natural. That is directly due to the lack of very fine fuzz on the face whether you see it or not.
Shaving is awesome, my skin looks great, I break out less, foundation makeup is undetectable when I wear it, I look younger than other women my age who would shudder at the thought of shaving. |

I have very minor peach fuzz that you can barely see. I shave once a week for exfoliation and my hair has never grown back darker or heavier. I use disposable sensitive skin razors for my face. Love them! |

As I get closer to menopause, I notice more facial hairs changing from vellus (sp?) to androgenic (sp?0.
Recently, I was not able to use my regular routine of epilating - so I tried shaving. What a nightmare, the hairs grew back as stubble!
I think I am going to start electrolysis.

One of my good friends used to shave her chin. I don't know if her hair started out thick or her hair turned thick from the shaving but she was fed up enough to start plucking the hair out. Now she is getting them lasered (she's been getting them done for almost a year now) but her hair is still there, just a lot thinner and lighter. |

I have been shaving for months now and the first time, I was so nervous, I thought I would slice my nose off I have had great luck with it, I had and would have long blonde hairs all over my face that made me very self-concious and then I read an article about Japanese face planing and thought, why not? I bought really expensive razors at first and now use any old kind but only once though. My skin is baby soft and I just take 5 minutes before bed while I do all the other "niceties" and that's it ! The first time I went out in my yard with a mirror to look at it in the sun (best test of all !) and was amazed at the difference. I would recommend it to anyone and don't be scared, nothing bad happens at all. Good Luck ladies and what a great site this is |

Have you ever considered threading? When I read about the Japanese part, it reminded me of how a lot of Asians get their faces threaded. Seems pretty interesting! |

Hi syndi ! I had actually thought of many of the procedures out there incl. laser until I spoke to the esthetician and she told me they shave your face before the procedure, it is painful and sometimes doesn't work on peach fuzz type hair. I am thrilled with my decision, I am still a little self-concious that I may have missed a spot but then a quick look outdoors in the mirror reassures me that all is great! my skin is sooo soft, I love it and there is no stubble. I can leave it for a couple of days and there may be some soft peach fuzz showing but that is it.A quick go over with the razor and viola ! I am sure not for everyone but maybe worth a try as it doesn't grow in darker or harsher, even my Dr. said many of his post-menopausal women shave. I was surprised to hear that. We ladies need to come out of the closet ! |

Yes BFG, if you shave courser hair, you will feel it come in with a blunt tip (ie, stubble). I totally support the idea getting electrolosis to rid yourself of those courser hairs. I did electrolosis in college (35+ yrs ago) around the corners of my mouth, and never had any remnants of a moustache again Shaving is the greatest for SAVING your skin. Get rid of the rough stuff first (always my recommendation) then get on with it!! |

This is my first time to this forum, and I just want to share my experience with shaving. I unforunately have a lot of extra hair (everywhere) and in college I started tweezing the hairs on my chin and I would use one of those small batter operated razors to get rid of the peach fuzz. I have really dark corse hair so my makeup never really looked right even with the tweezing and my boyfriend actually suggested that I start shaving. I've been shaving my chin area for about 5 years now. It's true that I didn't have nearly as much corse hair as I do now, but my face looks so much cleaner! I have to shave every morning otherwise I get this awful stubble. I could probably stand to shave twice a day but I only do it again if I need to go out in the evening. I tried everything else prior to that and nothing else worked. Bleaching dried my face out, waxing caused awful breakouts, and depilatory creams didn't remove all of the hair and often burned my skin. I recently started shaving my upper lip and my sideburns and I feel so much more confident about looking at people and letting them look at me! Shaving is cheap and accessible and I am glad I finally started doing it. |

I only know that airline ( from Japan ) request their cabin crew must shave their face to keep their faces hairless.
I want to know the direction of shaving. From up to down? from inside to outside?
Anyone can tell, as I'm very interesting to do that. |

I shave my face about once a month. My skin looks really smooth and clear after I shave. I don't have much peach fuzz to begin with so I don't think I have any reason to worry about increased regrowth. I use disposable razors that I buy in bulk from Costco. I ususally shave dry but yesterday I shaved with Fancl Cleansing Oil on my face. I plan to continue using the Fancl Cleansing oil the nest time I shave and try to do this at least once a week. I have to admit that I first felt a little hesistant about shaving my face but not any more especially after hearing that estheticians are offering something similar (blading?) heck I can the same thing at home. I am pretty bold I guess. |

I'm so grateful to this site... I just tried shaving today! My mother has been using an electric shaver for a while, and she has been encouraging me to do the same for my peach fuzz. At first I was frightened by the idea, but reading everyone's comments on here and elsewhere on the internet encouraged me to give it a try. So far, I'm really happy with the results!
My question: does any one have a regimen they would care to share? I've seen on here that some people use facial soap, some use moisturizer, some use shaving cream. And I'm really interested in what moisturizers people use after shaving. I have sensitive skin, so I try to use "all natural" products. My skin feels a little dry post-shave, but I don't want to use something too heavy and get breakouts! |

Beauty mask:
I found this information from the "shaving gallery" website.
side-burns and cheek: shave from the outside in
forehead: shave from the center of the forehead to the sides
upper-lip: stick your tongue above your upper lip to create a smooth, flat surface
and of course, don't drag the razor up, against the direction of hair-growth, because that could cause ingrown hairs!
I hope this helps |

It's great that you're sharing information on this topic! Shaving facial hair has been a growing trend for many, and there are different opinions and experiences with it. Call Freebird Shaver customer service if you're looking for advice on shaving tools, as they might offer helpful insights. Some find shaving effective for smooth skin, while others might prefer other methods like waxing or threading. Thanks for posting the link—it's always helpful to explore different perspectives. |
