Can someone tell me if these are the same thing? I know that Aspirin is a salicylic acid, but are the two one in the same, or are there other types of SA? The reason I ask is b/c I use products with SA in them, but I'm highly allergic to aspirin. So I'm trying to figure out if they are the exact same thing. I hope that makes sense! ![Laughing](images/smiles/lol.gif) |

If you are allergic to asprin this could cause problems with salacylic acid skin care products. For some, which in your case, it does not cause problems. |

I am a nurse...and your post got me wondering about the effects of using a medication topical (in this case aspirin which is indeed Salicylic acid) by someone allergic to it ~ I'm guessing your allergy reaction occurs when you ingest it???
From the Micromedex info I found....
CUTANEOUS: 4% to 8% of oral (Cryer et al, 1999a).
a) The bioavailability of CUTANEOUS aspirin is 4% to 8% that of oral aspirin in 3 healthy volunteers. Aspirin solution was prepared with powdered aspirin 750 mg dissolved in 3.5 mL absolute ethanol and 4.5 mL propylene glycol. The solution was then brushed onto the forearm over a 10-minute period (Cryer et al, 1999a).
So, my understanding of this mumbo-jumbo is if we use it topically get only 4 -8% of the oral aspirin. So, depending on the severity of your reaction, getting 4-8% of aspirin may not be enough to set off an allergic reaction in you. I'll have to think about this, this afternoon.
