WOW.
Okay, for starters, I'm so glad I found this forum. Thank God. My skin isn't that bad because I eat pretty well, but it's so oilly and I still break out because of the oil + pollution +hormones build-up on my skin = zits. And my skin simply wasn't glowing or anything, probably because I haven't been very nice to it with my Aveeno face cleanser plus other junk that I've been using.
Chemicals really have an impact on our face, hey? ---And our bodies.
Okay, I'll try not to ramble on too much, though. I'm just so excited.
So I finally got mom to take me to Planet Organic. I bought Castor Oil (cold pressed), Grapeseed Oil, Burt's Bees Concealer, Alba's tinted lipbalm (which I used just as I walked out and I love it. my mom even stole a bit of it from me. It's so nice and bronze, and it's natural. Definite favourite.), vegetable glycerine, and Ascorbic Acid.
Soo I chunked out the liquid out of my Aveeno Face Cleanser and put in Castor Oil, EVOO, and a bit of grapeseed oil. I cleansed my face and WOW. I love OCM. Seriously. I owe you all so much for the reccommendations. My skin felt amazing after, and my zits were going down for sure.
Then I made some of CareKate's Vitamin-C Serum. I put it on before I applied my makeup (under my eyes, too)---then I put Burt's Bees concealer on top (after the vitamin C serum sank in a bit), and wooow. I didn't even look like I was wearing makeup. The concealer was a bit light, so I put a little bit of my BE powder overtop, and I think it's the most natural my eyes have looked in the past 2 years of my high school makeup. <3 (I get fish-scale eyes. It isn't milia, it's just what I inherited from my mother & father...really really small white dots, but I've had milia before and it's way bigger than these. It's almost like a white pigmentation & is so noticeable when my skin is dry underneath my eyes. But this concealer really smoothes them out & keeps them hydrated, along with the vitamin C serum). I've used many concealers, from getting the brand Make Up Forever in the US, spending 35 dollars on Cover FX creme concealer, using various drugstore brands---they all made my eyes look gross and old.
Now, I'm satisfied with a simple, natural concealer...and I'm tempted to buy Burt's Bees creme blush. (I was really pushing my budget though)
All in all? I'm SO happy.
I'm a 15 year old girl who can finally enjoy her skin without slobbering chemicals on my face and ruining my skin. My mom wants to use the OCM now, since her skin is really oily (lucky her though, she doesn't break out much anymore. I mean, she gets ONE zit probably every few months and freaks out while I get them all over my face, haha.)
Plus, my skin's glaowing.
Love it. Can't wait to see if my oily skin is in balance tomorrow at school. =)
Thanks everyone,
-Tia |

Thanks! That's really encouraging. My friends think I'm absolutely crazy (I guess I am anyways) for making a homemade cleanser (especially with oil, they can't get the concept that oil helps balance oil, haha)---but my mom just tried it tonight and she LOVES it.
I think it's sad how people don't really think much about what they're washing their face with. Blech, the fragrance in my aveeno cleanser & other ingredients completely stripped my face of it's natural oils and made it dry. I went from sopping oily to dry as the desert...and OCM is simply balanced. |

Not crazy at all. It's very intelligent in fact. It's just that everyone else is uninformed. I know I was.
You're lucky you discovered such a simple yet brilliant regime at such a young age. Most of us have spent thousands on gimmicks and products that were an absolute waste.
Believe me, your friends will be coming to you begging for your beauty secrets. |

yeah... I wish I knew then (age 14) what I know now about skin care products.
Oh, and Tia R- just print out some articles and show them to your friends. Even refer them to this forum! Better yet, make 'em try your concoctions. The proof's in the puddin'! |

aw, thanks...I hope there are benefits to reap ---well, I know there will be...but you guys are lucky to find out even now! Just think of the population in North America that spend tens of thousands on products when the simplest solution is under ten dollars and simply having enough time outside, excerising, and a great diet.
Yeah, I was pretty high with the budget there, too...a few hundred dollars trying to find the "right" products (I know that's not a lot, but I only make about 1k each summer...and I work hard for it. -sob- I hate spending too much. Guess I got it from my mom. )
And yeah, maybe I will print out some articles. But one of my friends yesterday said she didn't care what she put on her face...which is really sad. ): I didn't want to tell her that she'll raise her risks of things from the ingredients, cause then she'll say I'm just worrying about everything. =\
Thanks for the encouragement, though. You guys are awesome. |

Stardusdty... I have also tried some oil based cleansers but didn't enjoy them that much after the long run.
Do you also use make up during the day?? And depending on the climate of your place.. where there is very high humidity I find causes a lot of comodones and pimples esp for us with oily skin..
Try using ocm in the morning when your skin is not covered in so much oil and dirt, then use a gentle cleanser with warm water at night.

Hi Stardustdy,
We all know that some things work well for some and not so well for others.
I disagree with miranets in that I have found it's great for oily skin [it normalized my skin] ... and it certainly didn't cause breakouts for me. But that's me ...
Over the years I have found that products that worked very well for others in keeping their skin clear, made mine break out. It's been a heartbreaking journey finding what works for my skin.
I sometimes think that while we are all trying to avoid breakouts, those breakouts are really a very individualized thing ... with a multitude of causes/influences.
I'm sorry that OCM didn't work for you. It could be as well that you didn't enjoy the routine of OCM ... and that, as much as anything, can influence the results you get.
It could be that your skin/system reacts badly to castor oil ... or olive oil ... or even the synergy of the two together.
All I really know for sure is that it's worked amazingly well for me ... and for me, that's the important thing.

I have the same results from OCM. It worked for two days and my skin break out. I'm using now Rose Hip and Jojoba oil to calm my skin down. I don't think you doing something wrong, it just not working for some people

At first I broke out too, but I've been making sure to wipe off every speck of oil after cleansing with a cloth, so that *could* be your problem. Make sure you're exfoliating too (I exfoliate with sea salt or kosher salt), which really helps clear off grime.
You can't usually just stick to one thing, but the OCM has given my skin such a healthy glow.
I'm sure it'd make me break out again if I didn't wipe it off with a cloth, since leaving oil in your face will probably catch some bacteria throughout the day, resulting in acne.
Thus, I love OCM after I discovered that I had to wipe it all off. |
