Hi beautiful gals,

I just started an upgrade to PSF 1% retinol. I love the texture. But I got to wondering...am I supposed to stop using it when my skin gets to where I want it? Should we give our skin a break once in a while? Or is this a staple product I will be using the rest of my life? Any advice?

according to the PSF site (in the retinol Q&A section) you should give your skin a 3 month break every six months .

So if I have understand it correct. You can use retinol for 6 months and than stop for 3 months and than can use it again if you want? Smile

Yup, quoting the PSF site (well, this is what they recommend for THEIR retinol product, not sure what it would be for other brands)

Quote:
To alleviate the possibility of temporary discomfort, we recommend applying our retinol product using a pulse treatment schedule. The Micropulse schedule is how you will apply the product on a daily/weekly basis, and the Macropulse schedule is how you will apply the product over a period of months.

Micropulse:

Pulse A - Weeks 1-2: Apply every 2-3 nights.

Pulse B - Weeks 3-4: Apply every other night.

Pulse C - Week 5+ : Apply every night if able to tolerate. If skin becomes dry, sensitive, or begins to peel excessively, revert back to Pulse A, and begin entire micropulse treatment schedule again.

Macropulse:

Cycle A: Apply for 6 months using micropulse treatment schedule.

Cycle B: Cease treatment entirely for a period of 3 months (90 days). Then begin treatment again, using Macropulse Cycle A.
