Are you sure there was only coated asprin available? Where did you look (what store)? I bought Safeway's brand aspirin and to my knowledge, it's not coated (nowhere on the label does it say it is... or isn't for that matter).
For the product you are curious about... you don't really need the acetaminophen and I don't know if the caffeine matters. As far as I can tell the aspirin that I use for my face doesn't have any inactive ingredients (there aren't any listed on the label and I beleive by law every brand has to list them.) |

Try looking at the drugstore again: plain Bayer aspirin is uncoated http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=10084&catid=42&trx=PLST-0-SRCH&trxp1=42&trxp2=10084&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-SRCH as is regular St. Joseph's aspirin. At Walmart they have a bottle of 200 tablets of plain aspirin for 99¢, although I can't remember the brand name. But if you look at the pain reliever shelf at Walmart you'll be able to find it because it's the only one that costs 99¢ for that many tablets....
Caffiene is known to "wake" up the skin and is recommended to use for fighting cellulite (that's what those "firming lotions" contain), so I don't really know what the effect would be of using Goody's Headache Powder on the face.... |

Amnis- I know it's strange but everything said coated or lightly coated. I went to both, Savon and Riteaid and checked generic and name brands. Maybe I missed something.
Carekate- I'll be going by a Walmart tomorrow and I'll get the big bottle. Sounds like a great deal!

I don’t believe you can. I think your only options are either to use a mortar and pestle, a coffee grinder or a pill “pulverizer” that you can find in the pharmacy section of supermarkets or Walgreens/CVS next to the little measuring syringes for kids and medication “organizers” for old folks.

Why are you mixing the aspirin with the ACV? Using both products together can be overly drying. I would suggest dissolving your aspirin with a couple of drops of water, then adding a bit of honey or aloe vera gel to make your mask and I would save the ACV to use in a homemade toner that you would apply after cleansing and/or using the aspirin mask. |

hello,
i thought that i read on the forum somewhere that we didnt need to crush the aspirin anymore bc someone discovered that it completely dissolves in a little watter or milk. am i crazy? did i just dream that life would be that easy? i hope not. im about to make the mask right now and all i have is a spoon

You are correct. Aspirin will "melt" in a little water or milk ... or even lemon juice.
LindaP,
You can't get aspirin in a powder ... but you can get salicylic acid in a powder form.
Salicylic acid is a part of aspirin ... but ... salicylic acid is only soluable in alcohol or oil ... not water. What's more, it's very caustic ... which means that unless you're careful, you could give yourself a nasty burn.
Salicylic acid wouldn't work in an "aspirin mask" ... but you could make a very useful BHA solution using Salicylic acid in a carrier of oil or alcohol at 1% or 2% for everyday use ... or 5% for every 2nd or third day ... or 10% for a peel.
Salicylic acid helps to deal with acne and blackheads ... and helps to exfoliate.
If you want a good, effective mask that can be used on a regular basis, however, the aspirin mask is unsurpassed. You have to be so much more careful with salicylic acid.

i was wondering if i can make a version of carekates dr. holland's aspirin mask without the lactic acid concentrate or heavy cream. I dont want it to mold and i dont really want to use a preservative. Can i mix all the other ingredients and store it in a jar, and then add cream or yogurt to a small amount just before use? or does the lactic acid need time to mix with all the other ingredients?

I have been mixing mine asprin with plain ol Witch Hazel, and lovin' it. What do you think if I mix the asprin with my pore reducer or redness reducer serums? good, bad? anything? |

Depending upon the ingredients your other products contain, it might be overkill.
Also, depending upon what type of Witch Hazel you are using, mixing it with the aspirin mask might start to become overly drying, especially if you’re doing the aspirin mask very often (i.e.: every day). There is ole cheapo Witch Hazel that you can get in the skincare or first aid section at the pharmacy or supermarket that contains isopropyl alcohol (i.e.: “rubbing alcohol”) which is VERY drying. Then there are other witch hazels (not sure if “Dickinson’s” brand is one of them) that don’t have the ‘bad’ alcohol in them and are therefore perfectly fine to use on a regular basis.
I’m not the resident witch hazel expert, though, so I could have my info wrong. I think Rosebud is our witch hazel expert so I’m going to PM her with a link to this thread so she can jump in and correct me if I’ve told you wrong.... |

| Thank you for the feedback. Dickson's is the brand I am using and it says it contains 14% alcohol. I have been "bad" and been using the mask every night. I just love it so. I have not been having issues with drying skin, although I will tell you that it seems I have areas of breakouts "more" than usual for me. Is anyone finding the same situation? Is it purging? |

 Aw I'm very flattered to be labled a 'witch hazel expert'.
The witch hazel I use is 100% witch hazel and I buy it from the local chemist, I have never come across the witch hazel with added alcohol.
I think a lot of it is down to trial and error, I know I like to use the recipes in the DIY thread as a template then I will modify to what ingredients I have available and what I think will suit my skin type.
I actually like to add witch hazel to the Dr Hollands Cleansing Cream.
Maybe use the asprin mask then apply the pore reducer afterwards.
