Well, I've already sung the praises of Alima's mineral make up, brushes, and CS, but recently I was feeling bold so I decided to try out a few samples of eye shadow that I had received with one of my orders.
A bit about me: I like to wear a slightly smokey eye for day, and then I darken it up a bit for evening. That means after I line my eyes I smudge a little coordinating eyeshadow over the liner, then I take an angled crease brush (I SO wish Alima sold one, for right now I'm using a delicious one from Fresh that was discontinued, so I hope it lasts me forever!) and blend a bit of dark eyeshadow in my crease. The problem is, because of how pale my skin is, a lot of colors end up looking weird on me. A lot of browns end up looking ruddy/red (ugh!), and a lot of blacks, greys, and purples end up making me look bruised (UGH!!!). Before I discovered Alima there was just one smokey eggplant color that was really working out for me, and I don't even know what it is because it's in one of those unlabeled Lancome freebie quads.
So, in the past three days, I tried out the following three colors: Twilight (smokey violet), Ombra (deep grey-violet), and Aria (smokey purple). All three were highly, highly pigmented: I used my brush to dust just the tiniest amount into my crease, then I took a make up sponge and buffed it into oblivion. In the end, no matter how little I used or how much I buffed, the Twilight was just too dark for me. I looked bruised. The Ombra was also quite dark, but with a little bit of buffing I managed to come out with a glamourous but still subdued day look. The Aria was the most manageable of the three--- I didn't even need to buff it with a sponge, I just swept on the tiniest bit with my brush and got a very natural, nice contour.
The verdict? Excellent quality, excellent staying powder, and excellent color selection. I'm definitely getting Ombra and Aria with my next order. I guess I'll go ahead and try the large eyeshadow brush too, since Alima's brushes are the softest I've ever felt and I eventually want 2 of each, but Alima, hear my plea and make an angled crease brush too!!!! |

Hahaha, I thought about that while I was typing! I'll try to take some shots the next time I do my make up, so keep an eye on this thread!^-^ (No make up today--- I'm snowed in!) |

Ok, the bad news is that I suck at photography and none of the pictures I took to show off my gorgeous make up applications using the Alima eye shadow turned out. However, the good news is that I'm still thrilled with Alima's eyeshadows. They are great for tracing over eyeliner to make a smokey eye, and they are also great for blending into the crease. I recently discovered another shade a like: Sphinx, which is a rich brown with golden highlights. It makes my blue eyes look brighter and more blue, and it blends gorgeously into the crease for a subtle, contoured day look. I'll update more when I try new colors. Does anyone else have any Alima eyeshadown shades they recommend? |

I got samples of:
Bliss (Shimmer): A very pale pink, good for all over eye colour, or on the brow bone.
Mocha (Pearluster): A very dark Brown/Taupe colour, good for the crease area.
Buff (Luminous Shimmer): A deeper beige/pink which I use on my lids.
I have to say I all these shimmers, but as I'm quite a bit older than you Liz, I would only wear them in the evening. I agree, they are all highly pigmented, so a light hand is recommended |
