Ok guys, I've been a lurker for a while and just recently joined. Let me say you all are awesome and seem to really know your stuff!!

Here is my problem: I'm mid 20's Very acne prone and can't seem to find anything that works. Or better yet, maybe I don't give it enough time to work? All I know is that I'm beyond frustrated with my skin.

I recently began using the OCM, seems to be working ok, but I still have tons of clogged ugly pores. After that I use ACV (the recipe found on DIY) and I like it,it isn't fading my red marks like lightening, but I stick with it. Then in the am, I use skinceuticals serum 10, followed by a dab of silkia camelia oil, and skinceuticals spf 20. Then mineral makeup.

Ok, evening...OCM, ACV, and then skinceuticals 1% sal acid acne tx (its new) and sometimes after that a 2.5% bp, and again the camelia oil. Also, one or two times a week the epidermx micro scrub.

Does that sound like too much? I just started this about 2 wks ago and I'm breaking out & freaking out. Is my skin just purging? Or am I a complete idiot and have no clue what I'm doing.
Thanks a million in advance. I'm desperate.

Laura

Hi Laura

It's good to have you on the boards Very Happy
I think that it is good you are making an effort with your skincare and now you have made a start externally the main effeort needs to made treating the acne from the internal.

I suffered all through my teens from terrible acne and it is only when I reached my early 20's that I started to look into diet and nuitrition.
The biggest difference came when I started to take:
*Zinc - 25mg a day
*Vitamin B 100 Complex
*Fish Oils/Linseed Oil

I also cut out all my bad caffiene intake and started to drink tons of green teas, peppermint teas, water, chamomile teas, Roobus teas
I try to eat plenty of veg and fruit and have cut out eating red meat.

When it comes to healthy eating just find what works best for you and your body.
You will notice results, just remember your body is the most sacred posession you own, it needs to be treated with the upmost respect.

Hi luvDMB

Sorry you're having trouble with your skin! You do have to give these things time.

However, I saw your reference to camelia oil and it raised a red flag in my tiny little brain.

It seems to me that I read somewhere that it clogs your pores ... and makes you break out?

Now ... I don't recall where I read this ... and I am certainly no expert because I've never even seen camelia oil let alone use it.

Regardless, everyone is different ... and the internal and external causes of our breakouts are legion ...

I find that as long as I keep things simple ... my skin seems to keep under reasonable control.

What about makeup? What brand of mineral makeup are you using?

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Mary

In definite agreeance with Rosebud.

Don't forget Vitamin C. Excersise every day...I try to get my heart pumping atleast for 10 minutes each day if I don't have a dance class or PE class at school.

Vegetables are SO important for healthy skin! I think it is the ultimate secret. Right now I haven't had enough access to vegetables (due to mom not being able to go grocery shopping, haha).

But when I do have a lot of vegetables...such as a huge bowl of carrots at lunch, cucumber slices before bed, and avocado---which is considered more of an oil than a vegetable or fruit, but it is LOADED with good stuff for your body, despite the huge amount of calories (Everything in moderation and you'll have no problem)...my skin is so radiant, I can't describe it. I am VERY prone to breakouts, especially right now with the stress of Final exams and other things in life...plus, I'm soooo oily on my face. Eating vegetables keeps it in control and my skin just glows. I end up not having to use foundation sometimes!

(back on the avocado) ...I eat a whole avocado with tuna (my mom mixes the tuna with onion and a bit of mayonaise. then she puts it with the avocado. It is SO good. Try it.)

Plus tuna is good for you. Fishy!
Wow, I'm typing a lot.

I'm sure you get the idea. Very Happy

Everything in moderation.Laughing

Thank you all so much for responding! I guess patience is key here, and I'll give the products time to work. Interesting on the comments about nutrition/diet link to healthy skin. I went to Whole Foods and picked up some flaxseed, and I just started grinding it fresh and putting 2 heaping Tbs. in my morning smoothie. I'm praying this helps. Thanks again so much, and I'll keep you all posted.

Here is my 2 cents... I have suffered from cystic acne for about 10 years now. I have controlled it for 7 years with Proactiv. I exfoliate very regularly, and work hard to keep my skin moisturized to counteract the drying effects of bp. Sal Acid has never done much for my acne, bp is what keeps it in check. I also use Mario Bedascu drying lotion overnight on whatever zits dare show their ugly little faces.

Welcome! I'm FAR from being expert at this but can tell you what we (hubby & I) have been doing and it's working for us.

I'm a normal to dry skin type so I don't think my routine will be of much help to you but...hubby and now a friend of mine but have major skin issues.

He had horrific acne from early teens to his late 20's. He still has issues, just not as bad. He has been left with some pretty bad scarring because of it too. Still oily, with LOTS of blackheads. I have had him using the OCM, ACV & asprin masks for almost 2 months now. The result of these three things has been nothing short of miraculous. His complexion is brighter. His skin doesn't look sallow anymore. The black&white heads are nearly gone. He loved it from the onset but wasn't too confident that it worked. Then within the past week or two he has been approached by several people, both family and co-workers asking him, have you lost weight? What changed about you, you look different? Made him feel like a million bucks.

He was so pleased with this that one of the people who had asked is a good friend of ours. She is in her early 30's and has had horrible acne problems since she was a pre-teen. She is also a model. So - she has to cake on the makeup, especially when having a major break out - which of course only makes her break out more...you see where this is going. He told her what I have been having him do. She came to me to ask. After my little speech I told her, 'let me make these for you, use them and nothing else for a week then tell me what you think'. She came back to me a week later with empty bottle pleading for re-fills. Of course I happily obliged her. She happened to be in a full blown outbreak of new big nasty zits when I gave these to her. When she returned she actually came to my house with no makeup on! The outbreak? Done. The redness from older blemishes faded tremendously. Overall her skin looked healthy, she glowed. Something I had never seen on her before. She was thrilled, as was I.

Yikes - pretty lengthy post here, sorry. But wanted to share with you how 3 simple DIY products can have such a huge impact. Give them a real try, and try the asprin mask too. There are alot of other believers in this, my household is truely sold on them!

Thanks for the input!
Candy 8865, i tried the OCM and gave up because i felt like i got myself so hyped up it would be a miracle, but i broke out a bit more, and i got confused on which oil combo i should be using. I know Castor, but then EVOO or Jojoba? Which have you & your husband found more effective? I just made another batch of ACV this morning, with strong brewed green tea, ACV, and a few drops of lavender & tea tree oil. The asprin mask i make by crushing the asprin with a morter and pestle, adding a bit of water, sometimes a bit of plain yogurt, but it is so gritty and drying.

Since i haven't had much luck with these products and after reading your post i'm starting to wonder if i am making them incorrectly?

Also, I too feel sal acid does nothing for my skin.
