I must say I am pleasantly surprised at how GREAT this mascara is. I have tried many Mary Kay products in the past and found most to be average at best, so I wasn't expcting much from this mascara. Not to mention that I have been searching for the "perfect" mascara for months. I have at least a dozens tubes of mascara of various brands that have only been used a few times. Anyway....this Mary Kay mascara ROCKS!!!
The website decribes it as:
"Exclusive, all-in-one formula delivers long, thick, voluminous-looking lashes. And it has Smart Wiper™ technology that delivers the exact amount of mascara you need for maximum plumping – without the clumping."
And my experience is that it does exactly that. I have been using this for about 10 days and no matter how many layers I put on, there has never been any clumping. My lashes are defined, and look plumper and longer. I love the brush. Must be the "Smartwiper" technology, but it puts just the right amount of mascara onto the lashes each and every time. Doesn't flake or smudge. Lasts all day and comes off fairly easily with cleanser & water.
I have it in black. It also comes in brown-black, I think. The container is a gorgeous brushed silver with sleek curves.
This retails for $15, and I think it is a bargain at that price (especially considering all the money I wasted trying different brands this year). I got it for under $10 (that is with shipping) on E-bay. Can't beat that. I plan to buy one or two more to have handy.
My LONG search for my HG mascara is over!!!!!

I thought I'd add that it only has 7 reviews so far on MUA since it's new but it has a 5.0 rating. Everyone is raving about it so I just let my friend know to bring me one on Monday. It sounds like it might obtain HG status for me from the descriptions. I hope all of the reviews weren't from Mary Kay reps.  I guess I'll find out soon enough! |

I am not a Mary Kay rep, and I am very picky about my mascara.....and I love it. Didn't expect to, but am really glad that I don't have to keep spending money each time a new mascara comes out.

This is great news! I just received this macara this week. I ordered it from a friend who sells MK, and gives me her discount, after hearing good things about it. I'm also a mascara junkie, constantly searching for the perfect mascara. I was going to wait until I used up my latest Lancome before opening the MK, but I think I'll cave before then! (I just purchased a new Lancome mascara last weekend)

I am loving this mascara more and more each day I wear it. I just know touched my eyelashes, and even with 2 coats of mascara on they are soft and feel natural. Not hard like with so many mascaras. I am just so surprised how great this mascara is. I really didn't expect to love a MK product this much.

I've got a tube of the new MK mascara too, and I only have one fault with it. It doesn't dry quickly enough for me on my hurried mornings getting ready for work. My lashes are semi-long and curly, so this may not be a problem for everyone. I find that if I don't sit and wait a few minutes for it to dry I have smudges all over the top of my upper lids.

Okay today is my first day to wear it and here's what I think so far. When I put it on it applied very nicely. My lashes are pretty unruley b/c they're long and often get tangled. All mascaras tend to "clump" on me for that reason and this was no exception. Now, it's not a traditional "clump" that I'm talking about, but more of a too much goop in a few particular areas b/c that's where my lashes get all tangled up (particularly the outter corners). So as usual I just use my lash comb and correct this. The mascara thickened and lengthened but not dramatically, just very nicely.
My biggest problem with mascaras is trying to find one that doesn't flake throughout the day. Unfortunately I just checked and I had several "flakes" on both cheeks after wearing this for approximately 6 hours. So, it's not a winner for me but it is definitely a good mascara. Is there something you can apply first to keep these products from flaking? Maybe I'm just missing something! |

FYI - this new MK “smart-wiper” mascara wand technology is also available in a lengthening formula only called “MK Signature Lash Lengthening Mascara.”
Has anyone tried this version? I’m tempted to try it because I typically prefer lengthening benefits from my mascara as opposed to thickening – I’ve always found most thickening formulas to be more prone to clumping and/or causing those horrible-looking thick, “spider leg” lashes.
So while Lori’s description and the reviews on MUA for the MK Signature Ultimate mascara sound fantastic, I’m scared it’ll turn out to be clumpy for me so I’m thinking I ought to just go for the lengthening only version....
Lori, Cheri, Aggie – exactly how much length *did* you end up with from the Ultimate version? Was it more thickening than lengthening?
God, I don’t know which way to go! A coworker’s mom is an MK rep so Alison said she can get me the mascara this weekend and bring it to me on Monday, but I don’t know which version to order. Could the lengthening only formula be as good as the Ultimate?
Any advice or suggestions?

I'd say the ultimate is more thickening than lengthening, but it does give a lengthened appearance if that makes sense. However, the more I use it the more I see how easily it flakes. With a cat and a dog at home, I'm often getting fuzzies in my eyes and I have horrible allergies in general, so I tend to touch my eyes several times a day. Every time I do, the flakes just fall all over the place. It's a shame b/c I really like the initial look this mascara gives.
Also, does anyone else have shorter lashes on one eye? Lately I've noticed that the lashes on my right eye have gotten really short, especially compared to the very long ones on my left. I can't think of what might be causing this since I sleep mostly on my left side! I just bought the dreamlash to see if that will help. |

Me!!!!!! My left lashes are a tid bit shorter than the right side. Also, they aren’t as well behaved either. Most of the time I shun mascara these days as I’m happy with the DIY tinting and using Ardell lash stuff as a “clear” mascara for every day, but when I *do* use a traditional mascara, I notice that the lashes on my right eye always turn out looking better than the ones on the left. Makes me fug-buck though I’ve never given any thought to *why* one set of lashes is better than the other....

Yes, I've tried the Ardell by itself for a few months and I didn't really notice much change, so that's why I went ahead and picked up the Dreamlash. I thought I had better give them both a go before forking it over for the Lucia. And I've been eyeballing (no pun intended) your thread on the homemade version. I hope it'll be done soon so we can all see how it works! If so, I'll be stocking up on my own supplies to make it too!  |

Carekate....from my understanding MK products are pretty much risk-free because if you don't like it you can return it to the sales consultant for a refubnd. So if you try the ultimate mascara and want more length, return it (or exchange it) for the lengthening version.
By the way, I use DreamLash and love what it has done to my lashes in a short time.

I have been test driving MK's new mascara too - and it's not too bad if I do say so. Carrie, I'd say it doesn't clump at all - and I'm a mascara snob. I try every one that comes down the pike. It's like a sickness. Now about the flakies, I didn't get any as yet, but I'm keeping an eye on that, but I would say that it gives nice definition - not globby, crappy lashes. I like this better than Max Factor's Lash Perfection. This is just my initial observation. We'll see what happens in a few more days.
Also, my left lashes behave way better than my right. My right lashes never look as good AND they lose their curl all the time...What's up with that? They just sag, and I have to do the unthinkable which is recurling once my mascara is on. (I do have the ModelCo heated one, but I keep forgetting to buy the AAA batteries to replace in it).
I think I may have seen DreamLash on clearance at Rite Aid. I think it was 50% off! It's probably sold out if it was.

Anybody heard of “Lash Control” mascara? According to the Feb 06 issue of InStyle, it’s supposed to be the next innovation in mascara – here’s the skinny:
Most makeup artists recommend wiping off the wand to eliminate excess before applying mascara. But the new Lash Control mascara may allow you to skip that step. The tube has a soft rubber section (at the neck) that you squeeze as you remove the wand. “It prevents too much makeup from getting on the brush, so there’s no thickness,” says NYC makeup artist Kristofer Buckle. “It goes on smoothly and keeps lashes really separate.”
I’d be interested to know how Lash Control’s innovation matches up to the Mary Kay “Smart Wiper” technology....

This "lash control" also sounds like one of my old favorites, Maybelline's Lash by Lash. I wonder what happened to that one?  |

I caved in and bought the MK Ultimate Mascara in the black/brown shade and love it! It didn't clump at all going on and there was no flaking. I use mascara only on my upper lashes as using it on my bottom lashes tends to just emphasize my dark cirles! I have to say, though, that there was a bit of smudging right below my browbone, but that may be due to the fact that I had put too much rich eye cream around my eyes that day (desperately trying to eradicate above mentioned circles  ) I used two coats and it lengthened and thickened and lasted all day! This may replace my HG mascara--Shu Uemura's Basic Mascara--which I absolutely swear by...but the price...gulp! I could buy at least three tubes of the MK for what one tube of the Shu costs! The big test will come in the summer months during the heat and humidity. Shu's mascara does not budge and still holds a curl. Will have to wait and see about MK's. | I have never bought another Mary Kay product in my life, but I bought the Signature mascara in brown/black on Ebay (based on the reviews)and I love it, too. I prefer more lengthening than thickening, and I've been using it every day rather than Definicils. It lasts all the way through my Ashtanga yoga class--the true test! |

A woman who works for my husband sells MaryKay. She was kind enough to give me a few samples of the Mary Kay Ultimate Signature Mascara. I rarely wear mascara but was in need of a new tube. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!! I ordered the full size.
I have had significant thickening to my lashes in the past several months using Ardell, Lucia and now Jan Marini lash growth products. Never in my life have I had noticable lashes. Now, with the MK Mascara my lashes are noticable and thick. I am just delighted.

So I finally got to try this as well thanks to Carrie who surprised me by sending over a sample 
I'm quite surprised by how good this mascara is actually! It goes on really smoothly, doesn't clump, thickens, lengthens and separates the lashes well. I had no problems with smudging or with flakiness either. I still prefer DiorShow over this, but given the price difference.... It is very good and I will consider buying this once I finish off my mascara stash *if* someone lets me in on the secret in taking this mascara off
One thing I did experience with the MK mascara is *very* severe difficulties in taking it off. No kidding! For a mascara that doesn't claim to be waterproof it was such a pain for me to get rid of! I started by using the Z.Bigatti cleanser that I was testing (which until that point in time was doing very well with eye makeup) and I barely managed to get any off. I then moved on to the Cellcosmet one which usually melts off my other mascaras - got a bit more off but still nowhere near complete. So I decided that I need to use an eye makeup remover for this - I used the Avalon Organics one followed by the Bioelements one - got a little bit more off, still plenty of mascara left.... I then moved on to a cleansing oil (they always do well with mascara!) and was still very surprised by how stubborn it was! Granted, I did apply a few sweeps of the mascara, but still! I'm going to use it again tomorrow and this time use less and see how that goes in terms of removing it. Has anyone else found removing this to be more difficult than usual? |
