I'd like to make up a batch of some sort of homemade body scrub or something for Xmas gifts. If I make it ahead of time, will it get all moldy and nasty? Is there something I can do to prevent this?
Thanks so much!

It really depends upon a lot of things ... what ingredients you use ... where it's stored ... what sort of container it's in ... how often it's used etc.
Now, if you live where it gets cold in the winter ... and your bathroom is on the chilly side ... then you can leave things in the bathroom and they will stay nicely chilled. If, however, you live where it's warm all year long ... then the fridge is best for storage but not necessary.
There are several inexpensive preservatives which you may or may not want to include ... as well as some natural ones which will help but won't make the product last as long as a commercial preservative.
I tend to use natural preservatives ... and keep much of my DIY stuff in the fridge.
However, if you're talking about scrubs etc., you'll probably include either salt or sugar in the recipe ... both of which are preservatives in their own rights.
My Pearl Paste has only a very little bit of alcohol in it as a preservative ... and I tend to keep it in the fridge most of the time. It stays fresh for at least 3 months. I'd like to say longer but a recipe generally lasts me about 3 months.
Read the DIY thread [although it's very arduous] ... and check with some DIY sites like the personal formulator etc.
Good luck
