I have been having my hair colored and highlighted at salons for years, but now I am thinking about trying color at home. Can anyone recommend a good brand? I am looking for a med-dark brown. Thanks.

Hi Virginia! I've tried so many drugstore brands--the one I always come back to is L'Oreal Excellence Cream haircolor. I use the light brown shade and it seems the most natural and covers gray well. I guess it depends on what you're looking for in a haircolor, though...more vibrant color; cover grays; going lighter or darker; etc. I know one of the members here *carekate* highly recommended a certain brand...can't recall which one Confused , but I think you have to buy the color and developer seperately. Maybe try a board search for hair color and see what comes up. Good luck Smile

the thing with hair dye is that what works for one person can be disastrous for another. L'oreal is a good brand to start with. what carekate recommended was from a beauty specialty store (sally's?) rather than a drugstore. it is definitely more professional and could have better results.

I worship at the alter of Wella Color Charm hair dyes available at Sally's beauty supply stores. I wrote a considerable review/ode to it a while back which you can read about here: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=7658&highlight=wella+color+colour+charm

It is THE SINGLE GREATEST AT-HOME HAIR COLOR THAT I HAVE EVER USED, period.

I always use Loreal products...although lately I have been shelling out the big bucks to have it done professionally Shock I love my new hairdresser and she does a fabulous job on my hair!
