I first tried a sample 4 years ago and swore I would never buy it! but that night it cleared my acne!? and my skin was hydrated. Over the years it has been my standby product when my skin is freaking out! Which is started doing test Pat Wexlers kit (Everyone likes this kit but my skin btw). So here I am back to La Mer and within a day or so my skin is back to normal! Now we all know this costs an arm & leg soooo why does my skin love it! {sigh} I still have Avon and other products bought and to use and test and I will but I bet when it is all said/done I will be still using La Mer! My skin has expensive taste!
Anyone else's skin just LOVE La Mer??? |

Hi Deb, hope all is well.
Oh, I have always wanted to try LaMer. I have held back as I would be afraid I would like it as a moisturizer.

I like the cream (so does my mum and my hubby LOVES it) but we were going broke using it.
Have yuo tried the fermented kelp that is availabe from the site .. um.. darn, the link is here somewhere on the EDS site.. they sell all the fancy ingredients in famous skincare lines for people to create their own (and heaps cheaper) versions at home.
I was thinking of getting the kelp and mixing with pureed fresh aloe to use as a serum. |

hi Winnie!
All is well, thank you! DON'T try La Mer because if your skin likes it, it will cost an arm/leg to feed your skin! LOL
I have used the serum but the only thing it does is dry up any acne, other than that I saw nothing. |

I'm a long term user and lover of LaMer. It's done wonders for my 'mature skin' and although it does cost an arm and a leg, a jar usually lasts me about 6 months, so in the end its not that expensive.
Having said that, I've ordered a couple of Janson-Beckett items, which may just replace LaMer in my "must have" skin care lineup

Hi Sassyred I am terrified of trying La Mer coz if my skin likes it I would have to work 2 jobs
I've been browsing the site that Tiger Tim mentioned on and off for weeks now. Here is the page that breaks down the actives in specific brands, La Mer included -
http://www.skinactives.com/brands2.htm
I'm interested in trying the bioferment product too but I thought I'd research a bit before ordering. Reading through their forum left me underwhelmed as the owners' posts seem to oversimplify the process of making one's own potions. I hope we hear from people who have dealt with this company. |

I used to make my own face products and it was so much fun... I used to just "cook" the formulas based on the ingredients on products I liked (most were from Neal's Yard so did not have an endless list of chemicals I had no idea how to get hold of).
It truly is easy to do... all you need is clean equipment and a sense of adventure.
For me, it was very hard to source the base products in Japan without them costing more than buying brand names and to get stuffed shipped over was expensive too.. but that was 5 years back and things ahve changed somewhat. I am thinking of experimenting with my own stuff again!
Oh, and making your own base cream is very easy too.. there are lots of great "recipe" books out there. |

OK, I found a new sample tub of La Mer in the cabinet and started using it 3 days ago after my skin had a total freak out during my MD Formulations trial..
the change in my skin is amazing.. clearing up, oil slick gone and baby-soft every morning. I am now thinking of getting another tub of it. LOL Would make DH happy anyway. |

La Mer is my favorite cream. Nothing, I've used so far, compares to it. My skin just loves it. |

Girls, are you talking about Creme De La Mer? Well, I've used 2 jars but don't like it, don't hate it. It's a good moisturizer and that's about it. So many of you like it, I'd better dig out my 16.5oz jar and re-try it. |

I love Creme de la Mer and have used it for about 10 years!!! If I try something else, I always come back. It hydrates like no other cream and leaves my skin smooth, soft, and moisturized. No miracles unless you want to count the effect it has on lashes ~ long and thick compared to 10 years ago. A friend once asked to touch my skin because she said it looked so soft. This Creme works as a good moisturizer. |

Tiger Tim...i was looking at the skinactives website.........and looking at the ingredients in Cream de la Mer.........is it that easy to make the exact same tub of cream.........have you made anything like this.........and where would you start..........what do you need..........ie books etc............
This is opening a whole new spectrum for me and i think others...who have never made a cream from scratch in their lives...........some tips would be helpful........as i am very tempted to make a similiar Cream de la Mer.......but i honestly wouldn't have a clue what to get.......and how much of each ingredient you would add.........

If you use AM and PM and like greasy feeling like I do at PM, one 2oz jar will last you about 4 ~ 6 month. I bought a 16.5 oz jar at LAX DFS, it's 5% off the store price and no tax.
Hope this help!! |

I wrote to 'La Mer' yesterday, asking them about their shelf life of the 500ml........and they said 3 years............I really do wish i had a personal buyer in USA.....who could buy and ship the product to me......it only costs 60 pounds.............their..........
I have ordered a sample of 3.5 ml from ebay......so i will try that out first........i am also intrigued into making my own.......after reading Tiger Tims post and looking at Skinactives.com
MA Crisis.........how come you bought such a big jar of de la mer............?...just out of curisity..apart from the 5% discount and tax off...........do you think you'll use it all in 3 years..........and thanks for your advice......i will stick to the 2oz .... that is if it makes some difference...

I used 2 2oz Creme De La Mer before I went crazy and bought that 16.5 oz Jar. I really didn't know if it helped my skin other then moisturized it. Back then I did not know much about skin care and I don't really care about my skin. I only used moisturizer back then. But for sure it's a very, very rich and good moisturizer. And stupid me believed all magazine and news papers reviews and Expensive is Good. If I used day and night I can finish it in 3 years but as a skin care junkie since last August, I gave 8 oz to my friends /relatives already because I know there's no way I'll finish it on time. (I bought it Dec, 2004. I have about 6 oz left. Believe me, I was good before last August, one or two product line at a time). One trick for Creme De La Mer is DO NOT PUT IT IN THE REFRIGERATOR. Its oil and water will be seperated and getting bad. Lots of Asian put their skin care stuffs in the refrigerator due to warm and humid climate. I was told a cool place is the best way to store Creme De La Mer. After reading so many people like it I began to use it again about 1 week ago. I'll see after 2 months if I see any difference. |

I would have loved to make something with the sea kelp from skin actives, but I just dont have time to DIY anymore.
I believe that the skin actives site can help in giving the quantities of each additive needed for say a 4oz pot of cream. they do sell a base cream, but if it was me, persoanlly I would look for a different base (I dont like all the "extras" they put in).
Thre is a company in australia that makes a base cream made purely of shea butter and aloe gel and it is beautiful. The idea is you should then add essential oils etc for your skin type. Check out some of the DIY books from places such as Neal's Yard (do they do DIY courses in their stores in the UK?). There are plenty of places online to buy pure shea butter/aloe gel (come to think of it, doesn't L'Occitane sell a pure shea butter?)
Cheers! |

I read on reviews at MUA that this stuff works amazing as an eyecream (better than their own eyecream), now never having used it I can't say. Also, dare I say a few reported it made their eyelashes grow (the ones using it as an eyecream)!!! Also something about a teenybit warmed up in palm of hand before use. Makes me want to try this. |

I had a sample I used up for moisturizing after whenever I'd do a lactic acid peel. I really loved it, but never splurged on a whole jar because I found that Weleda's Everon face balm does the same thing for a fraction of the price . |

Ok, Ladies, I have used at least 8 oz Creme De La Mer but my eyelashes are still as short as it used to be.
I gave my skin a break. Since last Thursday night (03/02) till today (03/06) the only thing I used was Dermalogical Gentle Cleansing Gel, Emu Oil, Creme De la Mer, and La Mer Eye Cream. Sunscreen in the morning of course. No mask, no scrub, no treatment, NOTHING! To my surprise, my skin looked fabulous. My laugh lines are softer and the fine lines under my eyes seemed less, even my dark circles are lighter. I don't know if it's emu oil or La Mer or my skin just needs a break. |
