Hi, well i have been using Avene Ystheal for a couple of weeks now (every night with no problems) and am really pleased with the results so far, smoothing of a few lines and evening out of skin tone. I have slight peeling but nothing exfoliating doesnt deal with. My question is this, how long should i continue with the ystheal - (i dont know what concentration of retinol is in it) before i move up to a stronger concentration of retinol and what strength should that be.
Many thanks |

I just started using the gel and the cream tonight--did a spot test. I believe, but am not 100% certain that the Ystheal is .05% retinalhyde (sp). I thinkwww.avene.com may have the answer. As for what strength you would use after the Ystheal, I would say the lowest dose of tretinoin--but better to ask a derm. Ystheal is not as near as strong as a Rx retinoid.
I hope I like the gel is much as you do |

Hi nickyl - I've actually just ordered some Avene Ystheal products (Emulsion for face, and the eye treatment, which has much less retinaldehyde than the Emulsion) but haven't received them yet. The reason I did this is because I've been using SkinCeuticals .5% Retinol for many months now. I've never been able to use it more than 3X/wk. without it causing irritation and dryness/crepiness. And if I use it around my eyes, the crepiness lasts too long for my liking before the dry skin finally sheds. This ends up making my eyes look MORE lined than they really are! SC recommends that .5% be used gradually to a point where daily tolerance is achieved before moving on to their 1% Retinol. I just don't think I'm ever going to get there, and after years of trying prescription retinoids, I realize that I can't seem to handle stronger ones, even some OTC types. But in spite of this, I haven't used anything that refines my skin and gets rid of lines better than retinoids, so giving them up entirely isn't an option. But I'm tired of having to use other exfoliators to get rid of the crepiness and flaking -- it's too irritating. I don't think it's wise to be doing this to my skin.
After a recent bout of extreme dryness and lines from the .5%, I gave my skin a break for several days. Then I broke out some Lancome Re-Surface samples to use, which contain retinol. Wow, my skin looked really nice! That's when I decided to try the Ystheal line (cheaper than Lancome) to see if I could get the same kind of results.
So to make a long story short -- at least for me, less is more. I'm going in the opposite direction of you! I'll still use SC Retinol, but maybe once a week or so, and use something weaker the rest of the time. I hope I like the Ystheal products. |
