HI EVERYONE:
I HAVE A QUESTION FOR ALL OF THOSE OUT THERE WITH DRY SKIN. I AM USING THE PSF PRODUCTS (WHICH I REALLY DO LIKE ALOT). BUT, I STILL FEEL QUITE DRY. I'M WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO WHAT I COULD ADD TO MY REGIMINE TO EASE THE DRYNESS.
MY SKIN WILL LOVE ALL SUGGESTIONS. |

I recently started using Skinn's vital repair trio kit and my 44 dry/dehydrated skin is now hydrated, so much so that I have forgotten to moisturize a few times. I can't believe how well this has worked for me. It contains Lavender water and I guess my skin likes it. This hydrates me better than La Mer. |

Have you tried Dermalogica Intensive Moisture? It is for a very dry skin. |

MD Forte Replenish Hydrating Cream is a fave of mine. Currently I am sampling Pevonia's O2 Dry Skin Cream---very nice so far and no breakouts or bumps. Good luck!! |

Can you tell us what you are currently using? Perhaps there are more hydrating versions of some of those products? It might be good to add a hydrating serum before a moisturiser if you don't want to actually change any of the products. You could use a hyaluronic acid serum (like some of the hydrating serums made by Cellex-C etc that are meant to be used over vitamin C serums) or just a moisturising booster one (e.g. Dermalogica one, but I'm sure many others make them). |

Hi tthagenl - I'm just beginning to dip into my goodie bag of samples from PSF. So far I've tried the Green Tea cleanser which is very nice. I generally use Cetaphil, but for those who prefer special cleansers, I can say that this one isn't the least bit drying for me. The other product in my bag that I've tried is Emergen C Repair Serum. It contains 12% l-ascorbic acid and hyaluronic acid. I find this to be very moisturizing and wish I would've had it during the cold, dry months of winter. It may be too oily for me during summer -- I have normal skin but it gets oilier during humid weather -- so I'd think these two PSF products could help with dry skin. Are they part of your PSF arsenal?
I'm reserving the PSF O2 Serum for the times when retinol use builds up a crusty layer and I then slough it off with PSF Pumpkin Enzyme Peel (I was already a fan of this). Sometimes after I do this, my skin feels a little sensitive and exposed, and I'm hoping the O2 Serum will come to the rescue. Many forum members have said this product is very healing. I'm hoping it does the trick with my intermittent retinol intolerance.
One reason why I don't use a lot of moisturizing products is because the sunscreens I use (LRP Fluide Extreme and Avene Creme) are quite oily on my skin.
I haven't yet tried the Phyto Lift Cranberry Eye Gel but it's my understanding that it's not meant to be hydrating. The other sample in my goodie bag I haven't tried is Perfecting Day Lotion -- have you tried this? It sounds like it could help with dryness as well, but I haven't tried it yet. |

Homemade/commercial Hylaronic Acid serum or Sea Kelp Bioferment. Do some research on these for yourself (google). |

Masby:
In the a.m. I am using the cleanser, firming toner, vitamin c serum, the perfecting day moisturizer and phyto- eye gel. I have also been using some emu oil over the top of it all.
In the p.m. I am using the cleanser, firming toner, retinol night repair, eye cream and the camellia oil.
All the products are psf except for the emu oil and the camellia oil.
Its not that my skin is peeling or anything like that, it just still tends to feel a little tight
I still have not found a really good mask, I am wondering if this would help hydrate.
Thanks for your advice.

Terri - I wonder if the vitamin C and the retinol are drying you out a little bit then? I am familiar with the texture of the PSF serum and it's very nice, still it could be the culprit though it would more likely be the retinol I guess. Has this dryness started recently with this routine or has it always been a problem? Perhaps there is something else that has changed (spending more time in aircon/heated places, seasonal changes, etc).
I think it would be useful if you added a hyaluronic acid serum over the vitamin C serum and maybe a bit of moisturiser over the retinol (or are you using the camelia oil all over?). A moisturising mask 2-3 times a week could also help and there's many good ones (the three I have are by Thalgo, Sothys, and Phytomer).
Also, ask Darren what he would recommend, seeing as most of the products are PSF ones - you never know maybe they have a moisturising mask in the making as well.... |

tthagen1-do you use the retinol complex every night? If so, you might want to skip a night every so often when your skin is feeling too dry and try using a moisturizing mask as an overnight treatment. I really like Dr Hauschka Rejuvenating Mask for this purpose. The Firming Mask works as well, too |

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster is based on HA, but so are many other serums. Both Cellex-C and Skinceuticals make hydrating gels that can be used over their vitamin C serums. The Cellex-C has recently been making my skin rather tight before I apply moisturiser, whereas the Dermalogica that I am currently using feels nice and comfy. Another one I tried recently was the Hydra-Cool by IS Clinical. One I have not yet tried is the pure HA serum by Diana Yvonne - could also be a good option.
ps. Dermalogica is usually very good with samples so see if you can get yourself a sample from a salon and if it makes a difference. HTH |
