I've been using glycolic products for about a year and go into get professional glycolic peels about once a month. I like the (modest) results, but my skin is getting very accustomed to the glycolic and, it seems, almost immune to it. Have any of you experienced this?

I am looking for more dramatic results, and would like to know what the next logical "step" would be for me... are there stronger peels that won't require loads of downtime? Or something different than a peel all together?

No surgery, though! What are my best bets here?

Hi Maura,

Do you use Retin-A? From what I understand, the consistent use of Retin-A to tolerance, coupled with glycolic peels can make a dramatic difference in "remodeling".

I have just begun using Retin-A and am on the verge of moving up from the lowest concentration. While the visible results to date are modest, after 6 weeks, using only the .01% I have noticed a difference ... smoother skin ... pores looking smaller ... and an overall healthiness in my skin.

Mary

Yes I currently use Retin A, along with glycolic. I've only used Retin A for a couple months now. My routine is to use glycolic (a 10% gel by Coats Aloe Intl) in the morning, and then Retin A at night. The monthly professional peels I get started at 40% and I believe have worked their way up past 50% at this point.

With the glycolic: when I first started using it, I saw great results. My skin had a new smoothness and healthy glow. Over time, I doesn't seem to be responding to it in the same way. My skin looks dull and the texture is almost orange-peel-ish (exaggeration but that's what it makes me think of).

The Retin A, I can't say I've noticed results there yet, but I've heard you have to wait several months to start reaping the benefits of that (Anyone care to confirm?)

I guess I'm looking for just something else I can add to this routine to give my skin a more noticeable/dramatic "oomph" every so often?

Microdermabrasion? (Although I've heard this is equally/less effective than glyolic peels)

TCA peels? (I know next to nothing about these, I think I remember reading something and being scared!)

Anyone have any input/personal experiences?

you can find a ton of info by using the search button!!!!! Basically is a facial scrub, that takes a layer of skin off! It really leaves your face smooth.

Have you thought about going up in percentage of your daily glycolic acid, or maybe switching the type of acid for a while (like lactic instead of glycolic). MD Forte makes great glycolic products in 3 different increments (10, 20, and 30%). HTH!
