Hi, You guys are so good, here's another stumper:
Friends of ours have a 7-month old who's had a cold for TWO weeks and refuses to eat. They've taken him to the hospital/doctor twice with no satisfaction. There isn't much the docs can do for the cold, which doesn't bother me so much.
What DOES bother me is that the docs also haven't been able to suggest how to get the baby to eat! He's lost 4 pounds, which would be a lot for an adult in two weeks but for the tot, it's worse - almost 25% percent of his body weight. To make matters truly worse, they took him to Children's Hospital. A children's hospital should be the experts! Yet they still couldn't help.
Could anyone suggest how to get the baby to eat? I've seen pacifiers with buttons you push, and when you hit the button it releases medicine into the baby's mouth...Is there anything like that but bigger to get food into a baby?
Thanks.

Is the baby still on the boob?? That would be my guess as the best way to put weight back on the baby. |

Hi,
I didn't think to ask if he's still breastfeeding. But I'd assume so. I guess he's just not taking to it.
Correct, dehydration is a big issue. I think his dad is trying to give him kiddie (liquid) vitamins. But I'm not sure about other liquids.
Thanks.

I'd be guessing that breat milk is probably the easiest to digest and least likely to upset the tummy..
Maybe some pedialyte or something like that for the dehydration too? |
