Thought this would be a fun thread
It is my MIL's 50th birthday in 2 weeks and as she is going to be away, we took her out shopping for a fabulous 50th birthday gift.
She has always wanted a Radley handbag and thought it was a wonderful idea that we wanted to buy her one.
She couldn't choose between 2 bags, in the end my SO just bought them both!!
So it got me wondering what bags do you all carry or long to own.
As for me, I have a couple of inexpensive bags, but prefer to have lots of pockets instead
There is nothing better than a coat with about 4/5 pockets to fit everything in |

Every Christmas, my mother buys me a nice handbag from Dooney & Bourke or Coach. After showing tons of gratitude, I promptly put the bag in my closet and continue to use one of the cheap canvas totes that I picked up at Old Navy or Walmart. |

well, bags, now that's my kind of thing!
i have about 5 handbags that i alternate between, depending on what i'm wearing, what i have to do that day and what the weather is like.
i'm a girl that also likes to carry a lot of stuff (wallet, mints, lip balm, tissues, phone, keys, water bottle, powder, diary, pens, scrap paper, paracetemol, the list is almost endless...) so most of my bags are reasonably big.
my current favourite is a gorgeous stripey blue/tan/white bag made by a new zealand designer and cost me a bomb but is so fantastic - lots of pockets!!!

Right now I am using a handbag by Guess and I have an XOXO purse as well.
I saw some really nice purses from a new york company that I almost bought, Really expensive though. so right now i am more interesed in having 4 handbags instead of just one expensive handbag. |

Right now I am carrying a brown Dooney & Burke Signature Sac Bag. I have one in Turquoise as well. I also love Coach. It's so stupid, but I feel better when I carry an expensive bag. It's just in my mind because cheap bags are good too. I wish I didn't care so much about brands *sigh* |

I love Kate Spade bags!!! Lately, I've been carrying a black Michael Kors bag that I got at the Nordstroms Anniversary sale last July! |

For me right now it is an olive green thatched leather Bianca Nygard shoulder bag that carries everything but the kitchen sink!

My black Coach hobo goes EVERYWHERE with me. It looks so fabulous and is so versatile... I just it
I also have a couple of Oroton (kind of Australia's equivalent to Coach) handbags that I use from time to time.
I am always drooling over bags but only actually buy when I find the PERFECT design or color.
There was a Chanel I eyed off a year or so back (hubby dragged me screaming from the shop) and there is a new Coach that has me drooling too... |

I also carry a big Coach "Hobo" bag.
The only problem is it seems to be full of bricks! I suppose I'm a pack rat. |

I know what you mean, Christine... I would not touch Louis Vuitton with a 50 foot pole because every chick and her dog has one in Japan.. from 13 year olds up. It becomes SO blaze to see that design day in and day out... not to mention those who buy the thing and then wear it with every single outfit they own - with no thought for whether it matches at all or not.
It's nothing against LV, they do have some very nice designs, but it is just offputting when you know you will see 50 people in a day with the same leather and/or design |

Now I'm really surprised by that because I thought you were our resident high fashion maven! (Forgive me if I have you mixed up with someone else! )
I'm still carry my $400 Juicy Couture bag that I splurged on last summer. It's a great bag, large enough to fit all my junk in, and women compliment me on it whereever I go!
That being said, I'm not above carrying around faux designer bags, or "inspired by" designer bags either. At the moment, I'm thinking of getting myself a faux "Fendi Spy Bag" for summer.... |

Just wondering when you see another woman carry a handbag, can you tell if it is genuine or a fake, just from a glance? |

Most of the time, I can't, unless I look closely and see the telltale logo or badge.
Truth be told, I get almost as many compliments on my faux designer bags as I do on my real-deal JC bag. Even the sales guy at Saks who sold me the JC bag complimented me on the bag I was carrying at the time and when I shamefully confessed it was fake, he said “Sweetie, it doesn’t matter if it’s real or fake so long as it looks stylish and makes you feel good!” |

I love, love, love bags and have a very big collection.
My favorites are made by KIESELSTEIN-CORD. They are incredibly stylish and his jewelry is simply exquisite. They tend to be very dressy. For everyday, I like Gucci or Donna. Karan.
I also have many ‘cheap’ bags from unknown designers and from Italy, with a few Prada bags in-between. BTW, fake prada bags can withstand beating much better than real ones. I stopped buying Prada, though it is good for traveling: the bags are light and nylon is not ruined in the rain.
Sorry to say, but I really dislike Spade bags. But then I find almost everything she designs to be utterly boring and hugely overpriced. There are so many beautiful & well-made bags at all price points that are way more enticing. Unfortunately for some companies, they just don’t have her huge marketing & advertising budget.
carekate is so right - I get as many compliments on my 'inspired' KIESELSTEIN bag from Italy as when I use the real ones
Recently, I bought a gorgeous Dooney & Bourke bag, but did not have an occasion to use it yet.
I love roomy bags, as I tend to carry a lot of papers. Thank fully, very little makeup – just a favorite lipstick or lip gloss; keys, small wallet and sunglasses. |

I really want this! http://www.nicolacerini.com/current_season/24_Leather_Tie_Bag.php
Could you post (or PM me) the price range this brand is usually in? I don't want to track down one of these stockists and find out it's way out of my budget and then and up thinking about the bag for weeks on end
TIA |

Have you ever noticed that most of the best, most gorgeous bags are so tiny that you’re lucky if your wallet will fit inside, let alone any of your other “essentials?”
I can’t speak for the rest of you, but my primary consideration when purchasing a new bag, aside from being aesthetically pleasing, is that the bloody thing has to be large enough to hold all of my junk! I can’t count how many times I’ve bought the cutest bag, optimistically thinking “Oh, surely I’ll be able to pare down the stuff I need to carry so it’ll fit inside this bag,” and no matter how hard I sort, stash and rearrange my minimum essentials, they still won’t fit in the bag well enough that I’m able to close and/or latch it! As a result, my mom always has the most stylish of handbags because I’ve had to pass my “rejects” down to her. It’s wonderful when all you need to carry
How many of you change handbags every day, like some of the celebs you see (Hello, Jessica Simpson!), ensuring your bag matches your outfit/shoes? I can understand having a smaller “evening” bag to carry out at night, but transferring all of my junk from one bag to another (presuming I’m lucky enough to find another one gorgeous bag large enough to hold it all!), is a time consuming effort – I’d have to wake up 30 minutes earlier every day just to switch bags!!
In addition to my JC “splurge” bag, the one other expensive (but designer-less), well-made bag that I’ve had for years is sort of a cross between a “carpet bag” (from when those Yankee scalywags invaded the South following the U.S. Civil War!) and a doctor’s satchel that I ordered a couple years ago from Spiegel that is literally large enough in which to carry the kitchen sink, but whenever I carry it women literally go ape-sh*t over it and stop me on the street to ask where I got it. I’ve seen lots of other bags that resemble an old fashioned doctor’s satchel, but never one exactly like mine. It’s black, though, so I mostly only carry it during the Fall/Winter...that reminds me, I haven’t broken it out yet this year and now I probably won’t get the chance to because I believe this weekend is going to be winter’s final gasp here in south-central TX. If you can believe it, yesterday was nearly 90 degrees F (32 degrees C) and today it is over 50 degrees colder!
Anyway, back to the subject: I have to confess that when I first read the title of this thread, I thought it was regarding what we carry *inside* our bags, rather then the brand or style itself. So, come on, what is the minimum items that you must carry with you in your bag at all times? As Pudoodles, Sharky and Chimera intimated, the bigger the bag I carry, the more “essential” items that I manage to cram it with! |

I would kill for a Mulberry bag. I simply adore the outer pockets on the Rosemary type bag. Sadly, I can´t even find a decent looking copy around here.
What do I carry in my bag?
At least one newspaper, two books, wallet, pens, notebook, calendar, keys, mobile phone, mirror, Dr H lipbalm, water bottle, gum and possibly some makeup. |
