Ok, in a nut shell--ICK!
I just picked this up yesterday and I normally would use it for a bit, but I don't think I can force myself to use the whole thing.
I like the idea of a 2 in 1 for exfoliating and moisturizing, but I don't think this one works well.
This cost me $5.95 and comes like any lipstick except it is a tad bit wider.
Ok here is how it works:
The Orange Peel side (darker pink side) is suppose to exfoliate you kisser gently and the Vitamin E side (light pink side) sooths your lips.
The directions say to "gently massage lips with the darker exfoliating side. Wipe off with a tissue. Then glide the lighter moisturinzing side over lips. Use whenever lips are peeling or rough."
Ok, I did the gentle massage with the darker side and the stick sort of started to dissintagrate. It was waxy and had the hard exfoliator all over my lips. I thought this was odd, but used my finger to massage my lips. Ok, for the 'wiping' with the tissue....it is not easy to get all the hard granules off in one swipe or even two. I was in the car and reverted to grade school..I used my sleeve. I turned the stick to the side and used the moisturer. I do like this side. It is nice and goes on smoothly. It actually feels good, but you can't really keep each side separate. The hard bits get onto the light side and then they are back on your lips! Blah!
I prefer Carekates' lip scrubber, but it is not easy to pull out at work. I thought the Sally Hansen would be a good alternative to my beauty ADD during the duty day. Wrong.
I figured my intial dislike was due to doing it in the car so I tried it later last night and this morning. Same issue about the grainy side except it really goes down fast. I have used it 3 times and I can already see the back side of the moisterizer when I have the darker side facing me plus it keeps getting onto the light side.
Overall, it does seem to work. My lips are smoother, but I'm not sure if it is due to it actually exfoliating or filling it in with wax! I would not buy this again, but for $5.95 I'm not broke for trying it. I do like the moisterizing side, but it doesn't measure up to my blistex (blue pot). |

Yeah, I've found that most of the "stick" type of lip exfoliants are a complete waste of money. I've tried all of them I've ever come across and none of them can really hold a candle to my homemade lip scrub, iffen I do so say myself!
The moral is: don't bother wasting money on any more of the stick lip exfoliants because they're not worth it. I think it's simply based on the fact that to be in a stick form in the first place, you have to add lots of wax or other similar ingredients to give it "substance" so that it stays in the stick formation, and that means they're going to be tough to deal with. That's my theory anyway! |

The best exfoliator for me is hot water and a soft-head toothbrush. I use this nightly, very gently....and my lips look great. Haven't had chapped lips all winter!

That's good to know. I tried Sally Hansen's Lip Inflation and that was a waste of $5 as well. You could smell the cinnamon all over my house! Plus it didn't make my lips look even slightly fuller. Sally lip/face. products seem great until you try them and realize you just wasted more money. I do like the new Sally products for hands though. The resurfacer and the skinbrightening hand cream with spf 20. |

CareKate-you hit that on the nose...no more wasting money on lip exfoliators! Hehehe Why didn't you just post that before and I could have saved $6 bucks?
Mom2toMax-toothbrush and hot water? I hadn't thought of that. I do brush my tongue, but I don't ever think of exfoliating that. I will try the toothbrush today. Good idea!
Erin- Actually, I finally found the LipInflation and the Lip Exfoliator was with it (as well as the collegan lip treatment I put back...my impulses were getting me into trouble. I figured the Collegan treatment could wait as I picked up the Sally Hansen LipInflation, Lip Exfoliator, a Diamond Nail color, and Diamond Nail Cure...which someone beat me to a review!!)
My point to the ramblings is....I actually liked the lipInflation. It isn't as nice as my LipFusion sample (NOT XL! ) that I got from Sephora, but still a pretty gloss that did give me some plumping. It doesn't last as long as the LF, but for the price I like it. |
