What is the difference between hydrating and moisturizing especially in the case of oily skin?
I just bought some Cellex-C hydra 5 b-complex gel for my face (and realized too late that the skinceuticals version is cheaper... if they are basically the same company why do they charge different prices?). My skin has been de-hydrated. Or at least I think. The surface is flakey and dry. I exfoliate and then the next day the flakes are back. Plus my skin just seems dry (even thought I have oily skin).
I tried the Cellex-C gel and it didn't seemt o do much. Then I read on the package that it says it only hydrates deep down and that you should follow up with a moisturizer. Do I really need to? Why wouldn't skin feel hyrated after applying it?
I am kind of disappointed and confused... need help please! |

My understanding of hyaluronic acid (which the Cellex-C gel is based on if I remember correctly) is that it NEEDS mosituriser on top to actually work effectively. The HA sucks moisture deeper into the skin and keeps it there, but it needs to take this moisture from somewhere (i.e. your moisturiser on top). Apparently, it can attract and hold 1000 times its own weight in water - but, again, it doesn't have this water and must suck it in from something. That's my basic and perhaps very naive explanation of it, I'm hoping someone might be able to provide you with a more scientific one |

hydrating = add water/moisture to your skin
moisturizing = add oil to your skin
That's my understand, by a lot of times in oily skin care products these 2 terms are quite interchangable... |
