Has any of our Australian members managed to get through by phone to Innisfail? My parents have been trying through the evening to reach our friends there to see how they weathered the storm, but seems all lines are out...
It is just an awful feeling waiting to hear how they faired... |

i'm not from australia but here in NZ we've been hearing a lot about the queensland cyclone. so here's some basic facts from our news (this is not definitive and could possibly be wrong):
1. no one is dead, less than 50 reported injuries (not sure what degree of injury that is though)
2. power is out and will probably remain that way for a couple of weeks
3. phone lines are out possibly for some time as well
4. lots of homes have lost their roofs and Innisfail seems to have been with worst hit with more than 75% of the homes destroyed.
you'll probably find much more info with a google search.

tiger_tim - I hope your parents managed to get through. I think the best bet would be on mobiles because their phonelines would be down for sure. The damage being reported is very extensive. "Luckily", it looks like that second cyclone that was coming along the same path will actually turn in another direction.... |
