Well, i decided after a previous hair trauma 10 weeks ago where my hair had been burned by the silly girl drying it ( i then had to go to another salon to get the burnt bits cut off) i decided i would go to an aveda concept salon. I have a dark blond base and only about 3/4 inch of roots were showing and i had quite a few highlights through it already but i wanted to go for a full head of blond, so brought in the pic and they guy got to work (he was only about 19 or 20 so i should have had alarm bells going - i was reccommended him by a girls hair i liked and asked who had done it) Anyway he told me that as i had never had a full scalp application that it would tingle, wow he didnt lie and it was really uncomfortable. He only bleached (not a bleach exactly whatever it was only contains 3% peroxide) the roots and put a toner all over. Anyhows to cut a long storey short i ended up with my hair an all over gingery blonde with orange bits at the side and the roots have an orangey / ginger glow ! great and the next day my head was sooo sore i had blisters on one side, i was in tears. I went back down to them on friday they told me i had a mild alergic reaction to the colour and they have agreed to fix it, but it is terrible that i have to go through this and from a reputable salon. I will now have to darken my hair to darker than it was before all this happened just so i dont damage my hair anymore and to get rid of the orange colour.
Anyone else been to an Aveda salon and what way did your hair turn out? |

nickyl you poor thing, I feel for you I really do.
I have never been to an Aveda Salon itself but I have had my fair share of hair disasters!!!
I don't think it is ever the Salon's themselves but you will always get bad and under experienced hairdressers working at them all.
From experience the best thing is to leave well alone and allow the hair to grow back again, take high Zinc supplements and a B Complex to speed up growth.
I would stock up on some basic oils to give your hair some good conditioning, Coconut oil is excellent for very dry hair and contains lots of nourishment to feed it up back to life. |

Hi Rosebud, thanks for the advice, i will this afternoon go and buy some coconut oil and a b complex. Yes i agree with u, it is not the salon, but the staff - but why must it always be me to find the inexperienced person!!! |

My condolences. While I’ve also experienced my share of hair color disasters, I’m surprised to hear that your’s happened at an Aveda salon because it’s my understanding that the hair colors they use are plant based and are supposedly the least damaging to hair.
Anyway, I wanted to pass along my recommendation to add to Rosebud’s advice to get your hair back in to good health. I posted this info a few weeks back for someone else who experienced a hair color nightmare and I still stand by this recommendation:

Okay, I seriously fried my hair about six weeks ago to the point were it felt sticky when it was wet! It was so bad that I was actually afraid that I’d have to cut it all off and then begin to grow it back out again.
I’d been trying everything I could think of, all the high dollar conditioning treatments plus my own remedies. In desperation, I used a bit of Biolage Ultra-Hydrating Conditioning Balm that I found, long forgotten, stuck in the cabinet under the bathroom sink and it made a huge difference after only one application.
For me to recommend this product is a wonderment in itself because I have gone on the record here and on MUA several times stating that Biolage Cond Balm was crap and that it did absolutely nothing for my hair. Now I have to eat my words because this product literally SAVED my hair!!!
I think part of the reason that I wrote this product off in the past was because the Cond Balm doesn’t contain copious amounts of silicones which mostly serve to make the hair shaft feel slick and slippery, thereby fostering the impression that it has completely “healed” the damage to your hair because it no longer feels all rough and nasty, when – in fact – all those products were doing was temporarily coating the hair with silicones to disguise the damage rather than correct it.
Sure enough, the first time I used the Cond Balm this time, when I rinsed it out my immediate first thought was, “I knew this was a waste of time – my hair doesn’t feel conditioned at all!” But after I towel dried and began to apply my pre-blowdrying styling products, I could see and feel an immediate difference in the health of my hair. After a week of using it (twice as a deep conditioning treatment and the rest of the time as a usual after-shampoo conditioner), the damage to my hair was almost completely repaired.
I owe this Biolage miracle a most humble apology and I take back every bad thing I ever said it and I can confidently and with a completely clear conscious recommend this product to others! |
One thing you need to know about using the oil treatments that Rosebud recommended: using oils (coconut, jojoba, avocado, olive, wheat germ, etc.) provides your hair with protein which helps reconstruct severely damaged hair, but it is also extremely drying so you MUST followup the use of any type of oil/protein treatment with an intensive moisturizing treatment.
Because of this, I would recommend first applying your oil treatment to your hair, leave it on for the desired amount of time, then shampoo it out and then apply the Biolage Conditioning Balm and leave it on for as long as possible. Do this a couple of times per week, and use the Biolage Conditioning Balm after every shampoo and your hair will begin to heal very quickly.
In the meantime, try very hard to resist the temptation to use any chemicals (read: no coloring your hair again!!!) for at least a month, until you've managed to replenish and restrengthen your hair. |

Thanks Carekate, i will bear that in mind about the oil, i did see the biolage range in town a while back, so i will purchase the Biolage conditioning balm. I know i too was surprised that this happened also like u say aveda is supposed to be less damaging, but there u go, i suppose i was the exception. It is gonna take all of my will power not to colour this, but for the sake of my hair then i must do it - MEN NEVER HAVE THESE PROBLEMS!!! |

Nicky1,
Sorry to hear about your aweful experience. That's the worst. I can totally relate.
I used to always go to Aveda. I love their products and the fact that their colors are more natural. With the right person my hair always turned out great. But I had a couple of instances with different people at dif. Aveda salons that just didn't work out right and I eventually moved on.
What I wanted to mention though, is that some Aveda salons don't actually use Aveda color. I stopped into a salon last year to check out the vibe and the people, and when I asked about their color they said they used some other brand. I was shocked because I didn't think that was allowed under Aveda's standards.
Maybe they could adjust the orangey color by putting on a toner. It just seems so weird that your naturally dark blonde hair color turned orange with bleach.
Again I really feel for you cause I've totally been in your shoes. I hope everything works out for you. The good news is hats are really in style. Go buy yourself a really cute one that you would buy even if your hair had turned out great. |
