I've been trying a couple of these masks lately and after I purchased the first one, I decided to read the reviews on MUA first. Well, the reviews of both masks I've tried were pretty great so I thought I'd share my thoughts with all of my EDS pals. I know some of you are addicted to masks so these are some great ones to try out without breaking your budget!
Got 2 Be In Your Face Pure Intent Mask - This is a clay mask that has some other great ingredients to it like avocado oil, vitamins A/E, etc. It is touted as a "detox" mask and looks light grey instead of the traditional green. It also has an unusual scent similar to men's aftershave since it contains rosemary. The mask is applied thinly and left on for 10 minutes. While it is drying it can be quite tingly but it's not irritating at all, at least not for me or the others on MUA.
When the mask was dry, I noticed that it had pulled out a LOT more oil than other clay masks I've tried. It rinsed off pretty easily and I was left with very cleansed skin/pores and a more firm, yet still soft face. I've used it a few more times in the T area and it is really great at removing blackheads/oil. It can leave somewhat of a tightening effect on the skin, but I just follow with moisturizer and I'm back to normal.
Got 2 Be In Your Face All Mixed Up Mash - this is a mask for moisturizing the skin and I have to say it did just that for me. My face was feeling a bit dry after my last retinol application so I used my Olay microderm and then followed with this. Again you leave it on for just 10 minutes and it smells like bananas (b/c it contains them!). I think it also has oatmeal in it and some other goodies but I don't have the bottle in front of me to check. Anyways, I simply wiped it off with a moist washcloth and my skin was plumped, smooth and very moisturized (but not overly). I really liked this one a lot b/c it's more of a "feel good" mask.
I should also mention that these come in very large bottles with caps and are a great buy at only $4 each. You can get them at Walmart or Ulta. I didn't see them at CVS but I haven't checked Walgreens yet. If you try them I hope you like them as much as I do! |

I'm a "mask addict" and I have both of these masks. I really like them. I use the Pure intent when I'm having "monthly issues" with my skin. It does a really good job of clearing those up. But I must say the All Mixed Up Mash Mask is one of my favorites, especially in the winter months. I love the aromatherapy factor to it. It really smells delicious and soothing. It is so relaxing to put this mask on and lay down for 10-15 minutes and let the scent envelop you. Mmmmm, I may have to use this tonight as something relaxing is sounding sooooo good right now.
Anyway.....I just wanted to agree with TamGirl. These masks are pretty darn good for the price.

I have pure intent and it is great, as good as an aspirin mask with none of the sneezing. I actually like the smell of it. It's easy to apply, not too thin or thick like helene's clay mask. It's pretty cheap too - found it at the local drugstore.
I'd recommend it! After I use it my skin is so clear and smooth! |

I'd like to try these. I also love masks. Have been using the Queen Helena ones and mixing with salicylic acid etc. I tried the egg yolk one and it's a bit softer texture. I looked at CVS, is there a national chain that carries these? |

That's so cute! And you can find these at Walmart or Ulta. I don't know why CVS and Walgreens don't have them since they have other Got 2 Be products. I had to go to Ulta for the mash moisture mask and they had all of their masks there. I don't know if Walmart was just out but if you have an Ulta near by, I'd suggest starting there. |

Eeeeesh I tried these masks and hated them. I hate to believe that only specialty and department store brands work, but you get what you pay for most of the time |

Sorry they didn't work for you! I'm still really loving these, especially the mashed up one now that my skin is so dry from my retinol product. I only tried that one b/c it got such raves on MUA but I'm sure glad I did! |

The only Got2Be mask I use is the Mash mask, and I have to say it is my favorite moisturizing mask. Some of the more expensive ones did moisturize my skin, but they left a trail of blackheads as well (which I am prone to). With the Got2Be mask I never break out in any way and it hydrates beautifully. I've been using it since last Fall after I spied it at Rite-Aid. Like TamGirl, I found it is just what I need when my skin is dried out from too much retinoids.

Question for all you "mask" lovers. I too love masks, clay masks, toning masks etc. I am addicted. I really don't have one I LOVE, but here's the question. Most masks say use once maybe twice a week. Why? I really want to do a mask at least once a day. What's the harm? To drying? What if you get one that is not to drying..or irritating etc. What's the harm? I so like the feel. Can someone please offer me a "WHY" I always appreciate the information shared. |

I think most are probably too intense for every day use, particularly clay masks since they really strip your skin clean. However, I can't imagine why the mashed up mask couldn't be used as much as you want. It's never irritating to me and feels great! |

I saw the Got2Be Pure Intent clay mask at Walgreens on sale 2 for $5 with some of the other Got2Be face products so I picked up a couple to try out.
The clay mask doesn't break me out (huge plus), and seems like it's pulling out a lot more gunk than other masks that I've tried. I use it twice a week and afterwards my face feels firmer and quite soft. All in all I like it. I've read a lot of complaints about the smell but it's just an herby smell, which I think is relaxing and nice. :)
I'm also trying their Pore Me deep facial scrub but it's only a once-a-week thing so I'm going to reserve judgement 'til I've used it a bit more. |

In response to masking daily....I don't think you would want to use just one mask every day, but a variety of masks could be used. There have been weeks when I masked every day, but I would use a mositurizing or vitamin mask every other day and a clay / detoxifying mask on the alternate days. My skin looked refreshed and glowing at week's end.
I just don't have time every week to do a mask daily.
I say go ahead and give it a try. Your skin will let you know when it's had enough.

Grrrr!! I haven't been able to find these masks anywhere yet. My next stop will be Ulta, but if they don't have em I guess I'll have to find a place to order them online.... |

Carekate - You should definitely find them at Ulta. I've seen them in both of the Ulta stores I've been in. It's Walmart that you can't count on. Good luck! |

Yeah I will only go to Ulta for these since most places don't carry their skin products. Walmart is a shot in the dark. |

I am addicted now, thanks to our lovely carekate putting in some samples with a box of shopping she did for me!
the clay one and mish mash... oh boy! at first try. I used clay on the t-zone and mish-mash on the cheeks - a perfect combo that I have been looking for. I love masks and think that every girl needs to have at least 5 in the cupboard!
Now I just Got2GetMeSome.

AIEE! Well after I read your post I was thinking how shocked I was that it didn't break me out, since almost everything does, and I'm a curious little devil so I went to my favorite what-am-I-putting-on-my-face site: http://www.cosmeticscop.com/learn/dictionary.asp?TYPE=MAIN because I'd heard somewhere (probably here) that peppermint is bad for your face. Lookie what popped up:

counter-irritant. Ingredients such as menthol, peppermint, camphor, and mint are considered counter-irritants (Sources: Archives of Dermatologic Research, May 1996, pages 245–248; and Code of Federal Regulations Title 21—Food and Drugs, Revised as of April 1, 2001, CITE: 21CFR310.545,www.fda.gov). Counter-irritants are used to induce local inflammation for the purpose of relieving inflammation in deeper or adjacent tissues. In other words, they substitute one kind of inflammation for another, which is never good for skin. Irritation or inflammation, no matter what causes it or how it happens, impairs the skin's immune and healing response (Source: Skin Pharmacology and Applied Skin Physiology, November-December 2000, pages 358–371). And although your skin may not show it, or doesn't react in an irritated fashion, if you apply irritants to your skin the damage is still taking place and is ongoing, so it adds up over time (Source: Skin Research and Technology, November 2001, pages 227–237). |
Here's the ingredients in the clay one for anyone interested:
Water (aqua), kaolin, bentonite, polysorbate 20, glyceryl stearate, peg 100 stearate, persea gratissima (avacado) oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil, cetearyl alcohol, ceteth-10 phosphate, dicetyl phosphate, xanthan gum, glycerin, retinyl palmitate, tocopheryl acetate, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) oil, citrus grandis (ruby grapefruit) peel oil, citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, menthavirdis (spearmint) leaf oil, tetrasodium edta, methylparaben, butylparaben, ethylparaben, isobutylparaben, propylparaben, phenoxyethanol, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, fragrance (parfum).
Ahhh!!! Quit using it now before it's too late! :O |

I have to add something about what I said about the Got2be Pure intent mask. It's still a good mask.. but the packaging has to be the worst I've ever seen. It's shaped like oval but after awhile you can't get the rest out because the edges are so hard so you lose at least 20% of the clay. I've squeezed the hell out of mine but still can't use the rest. I'd still recommend the mask for oily/acne prone skin but this just frustrates me.
Also, I have to say that this mask might be too strong for sensitive skin. I got my sister to try it and her eyes watered up and skin got red! |
