Is anyone using their retin-a or other prescription tretinoin on the neck and decollete area? I have been trying this and it is terribly itchy. I don't know if that is a bad thing or if it will normalize with use. I'd love to hear from you all with more experience. Thanks |

Hi pnw - My neck gets itchy too from retinoid use. Chafing from collars, etc., probably exacerbates it. I once read that Dr. Patricia Wexler recommends using Retin-A even on the hands, so using it on the neck and chest should also be okay. But that skin may be a little more sensitive than the face and hands which are toughened by constant exposure. I guess now you're finally getting some of the adverse reaction you haven't experienced on your face (unless I'm confusing you with another forum member!). A soothing cream or even sunscreen may help with the itchiness. |

I use it on neck and chest but only like 2 or 3 nights a week is recommended. Hydrocortizone can help with the irritation but just don't use it (Retin A)every night.
One woman who does Obagi says she uses it on that area a lot but puts plain old A&D diaper ointment there and it takes care of that. |

Thanks for the replies, Ladies. Awwwww shucks, m.april you remembered! Yes, I have been working my way up with the retinols for quite some time now without any adverse reactions. Now using a prescription I see what all the fuss is about. I did try the gel first because I was worried about the cream version breaking me out. I do use it on my hands as well - and my knees! My face is not irritated at all, just my neck and chest. Perhaps I will cut back in those areas. My sunscreen does seem to help a bit, too. But I am finally seeing a difference in the railroad tracks across my chest in the morning - I hate them!!! |

Hi pnw,
I've used Obagi for two years and I have always used it on my neck and chest. It works great to even out the skin tone. |

try using one of the OTC retinols rather than prescription strength for the neck and chest area. i've found it to help somewhat with the irritation. (that said, i've finally had to take a necklace off that i *always* wear because i just can't stand it! but it has helped, using a lower %. work your way up, just like you did your face.) for the itchiness, you may think i'm mad, but Noxema really really feels good |

Noxema, what a good idea, hmmmm. Also, with my EDS voucher I really have no idea what I'm going to get - but I WAS thinking of getting just the Obagi Blender to use with my hands. They are REALLY rough looking, like dinosaur skin. Is the blender just to help to enhance retin-A? |

Primarily yes but it also has 4% Hydroquinone to lighten spots and even out skin tone as well. I use the Blender and Retin A on my neck and chest but every other night on my neck and 2 times a week on my chest. I used to have spots on my chest but they have really faded and the "rings" around my neck are smoothing out as well. It is uncomfortable at times but I use ReVive Cellular Repair and it relieves all that. On neck only b/c it is moisturizing and that will slow the process down. You want to flake- to remove the older skin cells. |

Hi everyone! I too have started the tretinoin and generic 4% hydroquinone cream. I was told it was the same as Retin A and obagi Blender. I'm at the end of week 2, my face is baaaarely peeling, around mouth and chin, not really red, but my neck and chest are bumpy, red, irritated and itchy and uncomfortable! I can take it, I don't want to quit, but why is my face not peeling everywhere? I do use moisturizer and sunscreen 40 and no tanning.I hope it's working on my face because there are scars and wrinkles I want to get rid of! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks |

I too am using Retin-A on the neck area that are visible, but I do it every other day so I don't get too much of redness and peeling. And during those days, I mixed Retin-A with a moisturizer and my neck peels slightly and still get the results I want.
In answer to Jenfit51... when you use Obagi Nu-derm products, you should only use these without the moisturizer. The fact that you are using moisturizer on the face will make the Obagi products not so effective. On your neck/chest, use a mixture of your favorite moisturizer with Obagi products so that redness, peeling would be minimal OR use Obagi Nu-derm on neck/chest, 2x a week without moisturizer. Just remember, our skin on neck/chest are thinner than the face. |

I do! But only 0.025% and it works. It doesn't have to be strong on that area as it's super fragile. My neck and chest have considerably gotten better |

I use it on my neck and chest but I dilute it with a little water or damp hands. That way it spreads very easily and I dont use a lot . |

Thank you that helps! I was in so much pain and itchy burning on neck and chest last night I got up out of bed, got in the bath and washed the Retin-A and blender off my neck and chest and put moisturizer on it! I'm laying off for a couple days, then I'll mix with moisturizer on neck and chest only. I was not mixing any moisturizer with products on face, just washing, letting dry 30 minutes or so, then applying Retin-A and Blender in equal parts on face, neck and chest. My face is handling it very well, chest and neck, not so much!! Lol! Thanks again! |

I am on day 11 of obagi nu-derm and mostly have redness and peeling on my chin and around my lips. The rest of my face is slightly red with some mild peeling, but nothing major. Also, on days I go to work is it okay to use a BB cream ( Stila) or bare minerals powder.. or will this slow the process down? Thanks |

That must of been painful!
Sometimes, I apply moisturizer on top to combat the winter dryness. |

Any cream or moisturizer will slow down the process on Obagi Nu Derm. Mineral powder is fine as it doesn't moisturize and has the added benefit of any extra layer of sunscreen. |

I use it several times a week on my neck, undiluted, (but not on the decolette.) No irritation whatsoever. I wish I had started on my neck much earlier. It is only in recent years that I started doing that area. I definitely have some turkey neck goin' on. |

I've tried it on my neck and found even the weakest strength was very irritating and caused the skin to become red and very dry. Whenever I use Retin-A on my neck, I'll use it every other day.
I have never tried using it on my chest. |

I use it on my neck, chest and hands too, but I dilute it with some cream so it is not too strong when applied..... |
