Where do people get their EVOO and Castor Oil from? Is there a particular brand or composition that people use?

Try to get cold-pressed of yu can find it. I've seen and bought Cold pressed EVOO from Walmart, but also saw it at Whole Foods. I've seen the Cold-pressed Castor oil at Whole Foods, but have also seen it at a local health food grocery. |

Hi neogeo,
I believe that by virtue of being "Extra Virgin" Olive Oil it is the first pressing of the olives ... and is, by its definition "cold pressed". That would mean that you could purchase it at any grocery store.
The Castor Oil you'll probably need to get in a health food store if you want to get cold pressed ... but in a pinch, you could use the drug store variety of castor oil, usually found in the laxative aisle.
I prefer the cold pressed Castor Oil myself ... but it really depends upon what is available in your area.

Actually, just to clarify, Extra Virgin does not mean "cold pressed". It is the first pressing of the olives, but can still be processed through heating methods. Cold pressed means that no heating methods were used in the cleaning process, making the oil more viable as it then retains much more of it's healthy benefits. Heating methods can destroy vitamins and enzymes. If it doesn't say "cold pressed", then it's not. Cold pressed is a little more expensive, but I think it's worth it! |

Hi Sportygirl,
I actually looked this up in the Food Network's Encyclopedia. It says
"Extra virgin olive oil, the cold-pressed result of the first pressing of the olives, is only 1 percent acid. It's considered the finest and fruitiest of the olive oils and is therefore also the most expensive."
I had heard this before.
Now, I'm not an expert ... but what I had learned over the years agrees with the above Encyclopdeia explanation.

Yes, the extra virgin oil is supposed to be cold pressed, but nowadays many are not. Please go to to http:www.naturodoc.com/library/News/olive_oil_scandal.htm and read the information page there. It is very informative. |
