my BF was in agony last night when we went to sleep so i popped out of bed and went into the living room to get him some advil in the dark. it was tres chilly so i kind of ran huddled back to bed. in the meanwhile, i had an unfortunate encounter between my right breast and the long door handle, smack dab in the middle. i cannot begin to tell you how much it hurt! (and i'm at that time of month as well which makes it even more sensitive.)

i awoke to a huge red/purple bruise and it's still smarting. my question is -- is it all right to put arnica gel or oil on the nipple itself or should i just apply it to the surrounding area which is also bruised? does it really work or am i better of using nothing?

I had a breast reduction and used it all over my breasts while they were healing (not IN the incisions, of course!). I think that it would be fine to put it on your nipple, if anything, it wouldn't be the arnica to irritate you, probably whatever else is added. Just my opinion, though, I'm not a pharmacist or Dr or anything! Laughing Also, it really does work. It helped after my surgery, and I still use it now because I'm clumsy! If you put it on right after you bump something you can even prevent a bruise sometimes.

thank you soooo much!!!

i'm normally not squidgey about using stuff like this, but my poor little nipple just feels so vulnerable right now. the last time it hurt this much was when i was stupid enough to join others in college, sunbathing topless after slathering ourselves with baby oil...

how did the reduction go BTW? been pondering it for years but have been too frightened.

It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I can't explain what a difference it makes! If you are interested, there is a wonderful board about it that helped me through the whole thing. (It's where I learned about arnica gel and so many other things) All the women there are going through the same thing and are so supportive. It's www.breasthealthonline.com

I do have to disclaim that I was only 20 and had a month off after to heal. I had no complications or anything, and a really great result. But a lot of ladies (most, I think) who had complications still say they would do it again. If you have any other questions, we could talk on the lounge board, just post something over there if you want. Or pm, I'm not sure how that works yet, but I'm sure I can figure it out! Laughing

Yes you can apply arnica gel on your boobs, if you're in the UK, there is a make called SBC which do a huge size for a good price. The gel is great if you apply straightaway after a bump, it helps take away the bruising and can stop a bruise coming up and yes it really does work.

I used Arnica gel all over my breast (except on the incision until it healed) when I had a benign fibroadenoma removed a few years ago, and it was wonderful. It really helped the bruising, swelling, etc.

I am very clutzy and prone to bruises, so I make sure I always have some on hand.

Another good option is the homeopathic ointment called Traumeel. Like Arnica, I think it also comes in pellet form for you to take internally. They both work well on bruises and sprains, strains, etc.

After I had my face bruised in a minor car accident this summer, I used the arnica cream on my eye and it healed very fast. I recommend using it.
