Breaking out : a woman's guide to coping with acne at any age by Lydia Preston
I checked out this book at the library and have found it very informing. I recommend it!
It talks about medications and how they work, types of acne, why women can either develop acne or get worse acne after adolescence (and why men outgrow it and women don't (unfair!) ). |

Have you seen any results with that book? I've been breaking out like crazy and ready to try just about anything. |

It was a good book for me in the sense that I understood how all the different types of medications out there approach treatment and how and why acne may occur in women. The book isn't written by a doctor... just someone who was an acne sufferer herself that writes about almost everything (its a good comprehensive report on what's out there). If I am remembering correctly (I've been doing a lot of reading lately) it is good at helping you determine what treatment you would benefit from the most. If I would have read this book 10 years ago I definitely would have approached my treatment differently. It helps so much to really understand as much as possible about acne and your skin in general.
It is defintely worth checking out. You may read it and be able to approach a dermatologist with thorough knowledge allowing the both of you to be able to find the best treatment.

I have been to a dermatologist before. My skin was clearing up but it also got very dry and flaky. I'll look into that book later. I have a stack of acne books at home right now. |
