I have another quesiton too...
What do you use for effective removal of facial hair that does not bother your skin?
I have been using a mix of cold wax and tweezers. I am not sure if that is the best way to go or not... I do not want to use anything that will bother my skin, and at the same time I want an effective and (hopefully) long lasting removal method.
Thanks a bunch! |

I can think of two: shaving and laser
Shaving is fast, effective, does not "bother" the skin and is cheap. Not especially long-lasting but this varies from person to person.
Laser hair removael does not "bother" the skin is not cheap, you have to make appointments (but the treatment only takes a few min)and it's pretty much permanent. |

donnababe - have you had success with the laser treatment on facial hair? I had my upper lip area treat 3-4 times and I don't feel it really did much of anything. The hair on my face is pretty light so I didn't think anyone had much luck eliminating in this area. I know there are successes with dark facial hair though. Mine is sort of a dirty blonde but pretty long on the jawline so I'd love to eliminate it completely. |

I am going to have the laser hair removal done as soon as I can afford it. I am so tired of plucking! Every time, I break out where I plucked no matter what. In fact, my dermatologist just told me yesterday that I shouldn't pluck it at all because I'll get ingrown hairs and it damages the hair follicle and I break out there. After I told him I couldn't afford the laser treatment right now he told me to shave it. Pshaw! Yeah, right. I did that once to see just how many hairs I had at onceand I had a full on scruff all over my chin- I could have a goatee if I wanted (but of course I don't! hehe). Because these annoying course hairs are dark, it looked horrible and I kept rubbing it and it sounded like a guy rubbing his scruff.
I had electrolysis (sp?) done about 4 years ago but I have grown more hairs in more places since then. I can't wait to have the laser removal! |

Yes, I would be afraid that shaving the face would cause a problem... I know a woman who did that to her upper lip and was soooo sorry afterwards... |

I've been shaving my face for about 35 years, I've nicked myself a few times...but so what it sure beats everything else out there.
TAM, I have dark hair on my upper lip with fair skin and that's the area I'm having treated..one treatment to go!
The sucess of laser hair treatment depends on the skill of the provider and the laser along with skin and hair color. I do know they now have lasers that are supposed to be successful on darker skin but I don't know if it applies to lighter hair.
PS Dying the hair will not make the laser successful. It's the root of the hair the laser zeros in on. It has to be dark to attract the laser beam. |

Donna, thank you for sharing your knowledge on the subject! You are certainly more aware of what to do than I am, and I appreciate the information that you have given us. |

I've tried tweezing - leaves red bumps. I got one of those "as seen on TV" little shaver thingies - it leaves stubble. I've tried waxing - doesn't work on me. I've tried depilatories - break me out. Same with bleaches.
I asked my doctor to prescribe Vaniqa. I can't see any difference at all in the hair. I've been using it since around the first of February, and that might not have been long enough.
What I'm doing right now is using a rechargeable electric razor (what I use on my legs and pits) to get rid of my "chin whiskers." I do this about every other day. It's all I can come up with that doesn't irritate my skin and keep me from looking like I have a goatee.
Just one more thing I inherited from my mom's side of the family. One of my ancestors was most definitely "hursuit." |

I've heard that applying olive oil immediatly after waxing or sugaring and leaving it for a couple of hours will reduce the hair growth, the hair will also take longer time to grow and will grow out finer. Some people apply it only for a couple of hours after waxing, while others also apply it once or twice each day for a week like a "body lotion".
I gave this advice to a friend of mine and she noticed a result on her legs. She said that the hair took longer time to grow out after waxing. |

Laser hair removal on facial hair, will take long time to achieve a result, sometimes you will not get rid of the hair at all if it's too fine or very light. I'm doing laser hair removal on my legs, arms, bikini, underarms and face. Most of my body hair is very fine but dark. I have done 4 treatments, I can see a reduction on my legs, arms, bikini and underarms, but it's not good enough. My hair is too fine and I'm not feeling any pain despite the higher energy that is used. The first treatment was very very painful.
Laser hair reduction costs a lot, and it's not always the best option. Make sure it's the right thing for you before trying it.
I will do two more treatments and then I'll stop, because I realised that I will never achieve an 85% hair reduction. Maybe it's better to stop and not wasting money if you can’t afford it.
In the future when I can afford more treatments I will do laser hair removal instead of waxing or shaving, this will probably cost me about 600 USD every 3 months, but my skin is too sensitive for sugaring, waxing or shaving.
I also thought about buying a portable IPL machine from China and do the treatments at home, it’s cheaper (4000 USD for the machine) and more effective + IPL machines are easier to use. In this way I will also be able to do a full body treatment at home.
I really hate my hair. |

I have never heard of this. Thank you for the tip! |
