I've become really self conscious about my skin recently and it's uneven skin tone, scars, etc. Sad I would like to start using a light, natural, breathable, everyday foundation, whether it be a liquid, powder or cream.

I know nothing about foundations and could use all the advice I can get.

Thanks!!

Try MAC Studio Fix Powder/Foundation. If you need a concealer too, try MAC Studio Finish SPF 35 concealer.

you need to look for a matte foundation. If you use a foundation that has a dewy finish it will make any scars or bumps on your skin even more obvious. But if there is a foundation that you like that has such a finish, just use powder over the top which will matify it. Prescriptives has good matifying foundations and powders.

You didn't mention whether your skin is dry, oily, combo etc. Mine is normal-dry and I've recently discovered mineral makeup foundations which give a very natural look but at the same time, even out my skintone. Before the mmu I was using liquid foundations applied with either a damp sponge or brush. That gave me a sheer application but still enough coverage to even things out. Concealer took care of blemishes and red marks.

Cream foundations generally give a heavier finish and are suitable only for drier skins. Regular powder foundations can get masky looking but if you're oily they might work for you. Liquids can work with dry, normal or oily skins depending on their formulations. MAC has a large selection of colors and finishes/textures, as does Prescriptives so they would be good counters to begin your search. Good luck and have fun! Smile

thanks for all the info guys! sorry I forgot to mention my skin is normal/oily.

what's the difference in the mineral foundations? is it better for your skin? I need something that won't clog up pores or cause break outs, as my skin can be pretty sensitive.

has anyone tried aveda's line of makeups?

thanks.

Hey Stephie~ What Stardust said, and a bit more... I made it to 35 w/out foundation till hyper-pigmentation led me to it. For the past couple of years I've used mineral makeup very sparingly..more like a zealous concealer..for an even but natural look. I applied it w/ a soft plumpish eyeshadow brush to the redness around my nose, blemishes, my slight malasma and sun damage on my cheeks. Anything red or brown basically. I used Bare Minerals and easily found shades that blended with my skin for that season. Foundation is all about the right shade.

If you try a liquid, I recommend something sheer (often in tubes) like Revlon's New Complexion Even Out Makeup spf 20. Applying w/ a foundation brush is worth the trouble or a try. There are lots of sheers w/ decent (not great) spf's out there. Welcome to the foundation club!

Hi there,

Im really happy with Clinique's perfectly real makeup. It gives really good coverage Wink Also it adapts to your skintone which helps make it look natural and blend in with the skin tone.

The original Studio Fix broke me out but it's since been reformulated and I think the reviews have been better. MAC also has a liquid that's sheer yet covers really well. Umm, Face and Body foundation?

Yep, just checked, that's the name. It's water-based so it might be good for your oily skin. Doesn't get much press but it's good stuff. Unfortunately for me it's got a bit of chemical sunscreen in it, not enough to qualify for a spf rating but enough to set off my allergic red bumps. Crying or Very sad

I've been using BareFaced Minerals foundation and I love it. Doesn't break me out, no bismuth to cause itching, acts as a sunscreen and most important, I finally found the right shade for my very yellow tones. Very Happy

My favorites are...
1. MAC Select Spf 15
2. Perscriptives (Virtual Youth and Flawless Finish)
3. Revlon Colorstay

I have also used Bare Essen. and I do like it but it was too drying in the winter. I will give it a go again in the summer when my skin tends to be a little more oily.
