those who are fans of european sunscreens -- heads up! Avène has now come up with 50+ Crème sans parfum. that's right NO perfume (for those that were bothered by Avène's perfumes). and La Roche-Posay has come up with two new formulations of their Anthelios XL, both the Fluide Extreme and the Crème Fondant that is supposed to nicer, lighter, better for your face, yada yada.
i bought the Fluide Extreme, but can't comment on if it's better than the old one (huge displays everywhere though) as this will be my first time using it. i've been a fan of the Avene formulations (i use the 50+ spray and emulsion) because i *do* wear make up and they don't break me out. i bought the new creme formulation this time as it's the most water resistant and i'll be going to hawaii to visit my father in a couple of weeks.
anyways, thought i'd let people know.
cheers! |

la vie en rose - is the LRP 50 or 60? I looked online and it says the Fluide Extreme 60 has been relabeled 50 because of labeling restrictions. Wondering if it's the same in Europe(or if this indicates it was made somewhere else.) Please let us know how you like the new formulation. |

actually, it's the law here. no EU sunscreen can be labeled higher than 50+, even if it is. if you're getting Fluide Extreme 60 from anywhere in europe, then it's old. 50+ is the new branding and carries the same protection as the older 60.

Thanks for replying so quickly! Now I know I'm getting the "real" thing. |

Hi la vie en rose - I also use Avene, and now that it's already hot and humid here, I've switched from the Creme SPF50+ back to the Spray SPF50+ which isn't as heavy or oily. But I've always been curious about the Emulsion. Another forum member (sugarfreesheila?) gave the Emulsion a bad review saying she didn't like the texture at all, but I'm curious what you think. Is it less oily than the others? And is the new LRP FE as oily as the older formula? Thanks for any input you can provide.
BTW, have you ever tried the Avene Lait SPF50+? It comes in a 100ml size and is really heavy, but it's nearly marine-grade and would be great to use on your body (or even face) in strong sunlight, such as in Hawaii. |

m. april -- i actually started using the Emulsion more instead of the spray as it's still pretty chilly here and my face was getting dried out from retinols. i thought i was going to use the creme, but when i opened the package it was empty. ended up not exchanging it for a few weeks because i was perfectly happy with the emulsion. it seems more of a lighter weight cream, a tad oily perhaps (i've only used the spray thus far to compare it to though), but nice for my parched skin. i also think i like the way MU goes over better than the spray (which can get streaky). is it something i love wearing? no. i definitely think my face looks better without SS on it. but since things are they way they are, well, i'm actually quite happy with it. it's been protecting my skin beautifully and allowing previous sun damage a chance to go away. i'm not sure how it will fare in the hot and weather though. i will report back after hawaii as i plan to try all of them. i now have an aresenal!
i didn't use the old LRP so i won't be able to compare the formulas. i'll only be able to tell you my impressions on the new one. sorry. but they really are advertising it heavily in the beauty shops so either a) it's just a huge marketing ploy to get people to buy *their* sunscreen, b) there really is a great new formulation, or c) the most likely, somewhere between a and b. of interest, the Creme Fondant was completely sold out. can you use makeup over that one? (i rarely see a bare face here!)
thank you for the info on the Avene Lait. i grabbed an LRP Anthelios XL Spray for my body as I thought of it at the last minute. may have to go back now and get the Avene. marine-grade in water sounds good. i do use a long sleeve surf shirt most of the time, but after getting a few really horrendous burns (my bum, back of knees, tops of feet), i'm really wary now of the hawaiin sun. and i'm an absolute fool for snorkelling! can spend hours....
natsumi -- no problem! i know it's always a bit worriesome when you order overseas. |
