Hi everybody,

I am new to this forum and I'm glad I found it and hope that someone here will know the answer to my question and have some advice for me.

My 13 year old daughter had recently developed some stretch marks on her upper thighs and has become self-concious to the point where she won't wear shorts. In two weeks she leaves for a school-sponsored day trip to a water park and she is very worried about wearing a bathing suit in front of her classmates.

I have reassured her that they will eventually fade but for now they are a very noticable purple.

I was wondering if a self tanner might be a temporary solution but I am worried that the cream might make the marks darker. I've read that tanners can be effective with old faded marks.

Has anyone had experience with hiding dark stretch marks this way? I don't want to make it worse.

I think the self-tanner is intended to disguise stretch marks that have already faded to that annoying white color that won't tan. For long term care, I would suggest trying a pure vitamin E cream. For coverage, how about a body make-up like dermablend? I've never used it, but have heard good things. Another idea would be Sally Hansen air brushed legs spray, which is like a light foundation. I've used this and it gives a nice even color to the skin, but it might not be enough coverage for purple and might not be waterproof.

There's gotta be a solution out there. I hope someone has a good idea for you.

Hi LandB,

Thanks for the reply. I'll look into the dermablend. Is it waterproof and where can you buy it? I put some of my foundation on her leg last night and it covered real well but is not waterproof.

I've decided against the self-tanner since I'm not sure how it will affect her marks and I'm thinking that she might have a problem with the smell. I read last night that a lot of them have a smell and she is very finicky.

Dermablend's website has a store locator. Looks like department stores carry it. Here's the link. I can't tell from my quick review whether it's waterproof but I would imagine it's durable. www.dermablend.com
