I'm a 23 year old guy and I have a fair complexion overall but the skin beneath and around my lips has become very dark for the last few years specially on both corners of the lips the difference looks very visible. I have no idea whether its a skin burn or a reason for excessive shaving. What can I do to remedy this problem? |

Hello and welcome! Are you in the sun a lot? I have a friend that had this happen around her mouth when we were on a cruise a few years back. I believe it is just hyperpigmentation due to sun damage. If not, then I'm not sure what it might be, but hopefully some others here will. Good luck! |

Thanks for the reply. No I dont go in the sun a lot but even if it's a sun burn then why just around lips area? why not all over the face? |

My friends was not a sun burn, the sun just brought up dark pigmentation in this area. And I think that maybe the skin around the mouth is just more sensitive, or perhaps those cells just have the ability to produce more melanin than others? I'm not really sure, but it sounds like that probably isn't what caused yours anyway. There are several good lightening products out there, so you might want to do a search on this forum. I'm not familiar with them personally. You should also probably plan to see a dermatologist about it as well. |

i recently had the same problem, there were noticeably darker patches around the corners of my mouth.
after a few days the dark skin started to dry up actually, so i thought it must have be over-zealous exfoliating to blame, perhaps you could have shaved the top layer of skin off?
i treated the area with PSF Vitamin C 12% and it went away pretty fast.
but perhaps a heavier moisturiser or oil could help with the dryness, but not sure about the pigmentation though. |

I have hyper pigmenting on my upper lip, it drives me batty. It's hard to keep sunscreen on it, with wiping after eating, blowing my nose, etc. But, I try! It's from working outside in the sun for many years. I've since stopped painting but the damage is done. Try consistent sunscreen and a vitamin c serum underneath sunscreen may help lighten the area. |
