Sorry, but I'm about to blow up out of my freaking seat.

I have my first marathon Sunday and some stupid ass, young intern at my work, less than 10 feet from my space is sick as a dog. He's coughing (without covering his mouth), sneezing and wiping his nose with his hand--then opening the door to go upstairs.

I"M READY TO FLIPPING KILL HIM. Jeez--I'm sorry, but if you're sick--STAY HOME! Ok, sure, some people can't, but if you're a flipping High School intern (playing on the internet here)Fu*%ing GO!

He's also sucking on one of those sore throat things and making a crap load of disgusting noise while doing so.

I'm about to lose my mind. Seriously--lose it.

DiverChick, for what it's worth, I feel your pain! Like you said, sometimes a person has to come in sick...but most of the time, if you're THAT bad off, you really need to stay home, get better, and keep your funky germs to yourself. Rolling Eyes

Have you ever tried Airborne? It's great stuff...I always take it before I fly (where there is always someone coughing or sneezing up a storm in an enclosed place), and when I get around sick co-workers who won't be sensible and stay home. It really works great...keeps my immune system boosted, and it's been ages since I had so much as a cold! **knock wood** So, maybe start taking that stuff (you can get it everywhere...grocery, Walgreens, etc.) every few hours until your marathon to keep you protected from your co-workers nasty crap. All I know is it's worked for me!

And congrats on your upcoming marathon...kudos to you for having that kind of discipline! I'm lucky if I can run 3 miles without needing a paramedic escort! Laughing

Squirt Lysol in the air every time he so much as makes a sniffle. There's probably an unscented one so that you don't get a headache. Hopefully that will send a nice passive-aggressive message.

But in any event - GOOD LUCK in the MARATHON! You go girl!

politely tell your boss the guy looks like he's about to die and perhaps he'd be more productive at home getting well again? Question

These things really work. I'd also suggest using hand sanitizer and keeping your hands away from your face.

I hear your pain. In Japan people always come to work when sick and I HATE IT because I always end up sick and at home unable to stand for a week.

So, my tips to stop him passing it on:

- yes, spray every surface around you (and the air) with anti-bacterial spray

- keep putting anti-bacterial gel on your hands

- RUN to the health store and get a good propolis spray and start using it NOW (before you even get a twinge in the throat). Propolis is wonderful for stopping colds before they start. (you could also try taking some propolis or olive leaf extract for prevention)

- drink HEAPS of water (lubriction stops the baddies taking hold) and keep your nostrils moist if the air is dry (hold wet cloth and breathe through)

- and whatever you do, do NOT touch your face/eyes/mouth/nose at all unless you have just been and thoroughly washed your hands.

in addition to Tiger_tims fantastic tips:)

-drink fresh ginger with hot water and some honey
-overdose on Vit C = 1000mg/day

Hope the horrible sick person is staying home today and that you're fine.

Thanks for the advice! I'm actually taking Airborne constantly and spraying all the doors (We work out of a house)with Lysol. I bought some hand sanitizer yesturday and vitamin C.

I'm not sure what propolis is, but I'll look into it. I swear, if I can just make it to Sunday and THROUGH SUnday, I'll be happy!

Worst part is, this guy is just a high school intern--unpaid! I'm sure he thinks he's being a dedicated worker coming in while sick, but he's really pissing a few of us off--especially me!

Thanks again and I appreciate the good wishes--Mary H, if you can believe it, I couldn't run more than 5 minutes at a time last May! 3 miles seemed daunting to me too!

I actually had someone dare me to do a triathlon (sprint-.5 mile swim/16 mile bike/3.1 mile run) last year and it took me 3 months to train for it. After that, I just added longer distances. Though I must admit, the first 3 months of panting were harder than building up to run 20 miles! I really liked my couch!

So Sunday, a marathon...next year, Ironman! Very Happy

I'll let you know if I survive and have the same plan next week! Razz
