Has anyone tried TCA skin peels? I'm in the process of starting a home regimen TCA 6% peel?
I've used a glycolic peel in the past, but I've heard lactic peels are even better.
Now I've been hearing TCA peels are the best! Any opinions? |

Hi Fairlyfair,
I had a course of 3 TCA Peels last year together with 3 Microdermabrasion treatments, these were Doctor strength and performed by a Doctor. I have no experience of the home regimen TCA 6% peel you are talking about but I used to have glycolic peels done at a salon once a month for a while.
The TCA Peels are much, much stronger than Glycolic. The burning sensation from the acid was really uncomfortable and it wasn't left on the skin very long (thank God). After the treatment your skin is very, very red. This lasts for a couple of days and then it goes tight for a day or two and then starts to peel for another couple of days (not very fetching at all). They say this is a peel where you need no downtime from your normal routine (yeah right, if you don't mind walking round like you've got the worst case of sunburn on record).
Anyway after all that burning and peeling you would expect some great results - right. Wrong, well for me anyway there was pain but no gain. Sure it brightened up my skin (burnt off a few layers), but nothing dramatic and it cost a bloody fortune.
I guess it depends on what results you are after and if you are willing to have it done on a regular maintenance basis the results may be better (if you can stand the pain).
Obviously there must be different strength TCA peels, I haven't heard of the home regimen, I know you can buy home Glycolic Acid peels on the internet but they aren't very strong. How is the one you are using at the moment.

Thanks for your response Lady Jane,
The glycolic peel made my face feel nice and smooth the day I used it - but that was it. I didn't feel my skin shed, redness, nothing.....it was supposed to be professional strength - not the at home version - so i don't understand why it didn't burn like crazy.
Sorry to hear you didn't see any results after all that terrifying pain. This 6% is supposed to be super gentle and buffered, so I won't be experiencing any of the pain or harsh effects. At least that's what they say!! I really want to use it to help me lighten my skin. |

Like Lady Jane, I had a TCA Peel done by my dermatologist. It was brutal! The downtime was about 5 days (redness, then brown drying, then peeling). In my case, the results were not at all worth the pain. |
