I picked this up today for about $3 CA. I mentioned in another thread that I liked Carmex, it's mosly vaseline which helps my lips retain moisture. I don't know when I used this last (must have been many years ago) but today I put it on and was instantly repulsed, the scent/flavour is really, really awful. It tasted like synthetic flowers and mint. I usually don't like minty balms but it was the flavour that did me in. In the trash it goes. I still can't get the taste out of my mouth.
Ingredients:
petrolatum, lanolin, mineral oil, cocoa butter, camphor, menthol, salicylic acid, phenol, fragrance in a wax base. |

Yes I agree that the taste is horrible but if you try to apply it away from the inner part of your lips then its a pretty decent lip balm that is really good if you consider its price... |

Just curious are you taking about the squeeze tube or the twist up tube? I can't stand the squeeze tube one at all.. Got that when it first came out... Now the twist tube I have no problem with.. I'm a Carmex user from way back, when it first came out... |

I've kind of graduated on to other lip balms, but when I was younger, Carmex was the only one for me! IMHO, back then none of them beat the orig Carmex in the screw-top jar. |

I started off using Carmex in the little jar (the only type of Carmex available in Australia AFAIK) but then bought a few of the tubes when I ordered something off dermstore. I like this as a lipstick base and I am a big fan of minty/tingly lip balms. To be honest I can't really detect any odd taste to it (I just put it on) it just tastes like mint and smell like mint (although somehow synthetic) as well.
Btw, did anybody else also get the impression that the Carmex in the jar was more moisturising than the tubes?
I also have the squeze tube of Carmex - the only place I ever use this is in the car. It's the only lip balm that I have that I don't have to worry about melting and oozing out of its packaging when left in the car. Not my favorite balm though. |

I agree Mabsy, the original Carmex in the jar is by far the BEST! absolutly more moisturizing.. |

Wow, I'm surprised so many like it! It was the squeeze tube. I think my main problem was that I wasn't expecting the taste, I'm used to foody tasting balms. I was eating a Danish butterhorn after I put it on and my pastry tasted like Carmex. I'm glad it works for so many, for the price and on paper it looks great! |

Oh yeah - I'm not a fan of the taste of the squeeze tube one at all. |

I really like the squeeze tube Carmex when my lips are really dry. It tastes yuck, but after using it consistantly my lips were much less dry. |

Olivia,
I found the same thing happens to me - I break out around my mouth from lip glosses. I had thought the carmex wasn't comedogenic though. I've read articles on mineral oil and lanolin that have said they are and aren't comedogenic, so what is it?? There's no definite answer. |

FYI: this is true of just about all lip balms that come in stick/tube form! It’s because they have to add more of the wax or other ‘hard’ substance in order to give the balm enough substance to be stiff enough to work with the twist-up lip balm tubes.
For those who’ve used both Dr. Hauschka’s lip balm in both stick and pot version, I believe you’ll find the balm in the pot is much more emollient and moisturizing. Some thing with the Jurlique lip balm, which is available in a squeeze-tube (more moisturzing) and stick-format. I’ve never been able to find the stick version of the Decleor Aromessence lip balm, but I would be willing to bet that the same is true of it, as well....
Okay, consider that the end of your “Lessons in Lip Balm” for today! |

Thank you, Carrie! My current fav balm, Labello SOS is in a tube but it really liquidy, easy to spread and squeeze out where as the Carmex was waxy and hard to squirt out. I just hate pots, sticking my finger in over and over. :shudder: I don't use sticks very often, they are less moisturizing. |

Carmex was originally my fav until I started using Burt's Bee lip shimmer. Gives a hint of shimmer color along with moisture. |

I've been using Carmex for years. I do find the one in the pot is much smoother but i keep the tube type in my purse. Nothing soothes my lips better. Works great for wind chapped & sun burned lips. |

I am really surprised that there are so many people on the forum that love Carmex. As addicted as we all are to our expensive products. I have found nothing to work better. I have also had problems with break outs around my mouth with others so I just have stopped trying to switch. I once spilled an entire pot on a new silk skirt because it had melted in the car so now I use the tubes. |
