Okay maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration but the condition of my under eye area is really getting me down. Just in the past week I have noticed the fine lines under my right eye especially becoming more defined and the whole area is very crinkly with little cross hatches and I am also getting tiny flesh coloured lumps on the skin directly under my eyes,I have about 4/5 under each eye, they are not mila, don't know what they are but they look awful and I just feel this area of my skin is going down hill rapidly.
I am getting to the point where I would be prepared to pay a lot of money for a top end product like a la mer eye cream or la prairie.
It is worse because the right eye is very much worse that the left eye.
I have also though about getting some kind of laser treatment such as Nlite or IPL to help but I have no idea if these things would help.
I'm sorry if this all sounds a bit over the top but I am really worried about this rapid deterioration. Would it be okay to use a little Retin-A directly under my eyes?
Any help greatefully recived.

After speaking with your derm I'm sure it would be ok using Retin-A under your eyes, but it will probably make them very dry.
Try asking your derm for a few samples of the milder Renova for that area only. The sample size tubes are a very generous size and will last you quite awhile if you can talk him/her into giving you a few. I use it about 3 times per week, let it sink in for 30 mins or so, then apply another eye treatment. At first I suggest you just use a non-treatment moisturizing eye cream until the area gets used to the Renova. |

Please be very very careful if you decide to use retinols, renova, and especially Retin-A under your eyes. You are likely to swell up and actually make the lines more pronounced in the long run. (Been there ... done that) |

A milder retinol cream might help you out - MD Forte rejuvenating eye cream has retinol in and is designed for the eye area - I've found it still to be quite drying though so perhaps work up to it gradually and apply only every 2-3 nights to start. |

In a fit of desperation last night I actually used a little Retin-A on my undereye area. I am in the UK and unless you have very, very bad cystic acne or eczema you don't get to see a derm so I bought my retin A from the Inhouse Pharmecy website it is made by a company called Jassen-Cilag and has 500 micrograms of tretinoin in it.
I have to say that it hasn't irritated the skin under my eyes at all the only thing I noticed was my eyes felt a little gritty when I woke up. It hasn't caused any dryness or swelling at all. Now I am wondering if the retin A I have is fake as it hasn't caused any irritation at all.
I don't see any improvment but I think that it normally takes a bit of time for retin a to work.
Skin care is so confusing and really no two peoples experiance is the same! |

For me, the dryness doesn't show up until the 3rd or 4th day after applying the retinoid, so please be careful Betty. |

Do you use a moisturizing eye cream regularly? I don't know of anything that will get rid of fine lines, but perhaps the "cross hatches" you describe are a result of dehydrated skin? |

I had the same thing going on and was getting quite down. I was skeptical, but the thing that finally worked for me was emu oil. I used to spend money on every new eye cream that had a claim and nothing did anything - in fact the more I moisturized the more it looked dried out and wrinkled. After reading a post here on EDS, I thought "what the heck", I've spent so much money on creams - I should just give it a try - if it doesn't work I can use the oil for moisturizing and other things (it heals skin/bruises - it does!). The pharmacy had it right down the street, it was $19.99 (you can get cheaper online but I didn't want to wait). I applied it in the parking lot under my eyes (over my makeup) and I was surprised when I got home and for the first time I saw a noticeable difference. Noticeable (to ME) is big. I have been using night and day - with no other eye cream - and of course I use it all over my face and neck - along with a moisturizer after allowing the oil to soak in a bit - slather if you want - just blot off extra. I also use it throughout the day - a little dab under the eye area - around the mouth and lips. I am truly amazed at the way it has softened the wrinkles - I don't even mind looking at myself in the mirror. My skin seems more taunt and refreshed. I am pleased and finally found my ultimate moisturizer. I tell you, I was skeptical, but I finally hit the jackpot. I'm sure it may not be the ultimate for all - I'm happy to have found what works for me. |
