Hi, I am African American and I want nice dewy skin. I dont want any Jergens or Hawain Glow products (Im African American...I am red tone) lol.. But I would like more of a dewy glow or somethin like Eva Pigfords (American Next Top Model Season 3) skin. Her skin is so dewy and glowy. How can I portray that by makeup or tips? Thanks |

dear tasha,
you should get a tinted moisturizer with a shade that complements your skin (something with a reddish tone if you are really dark, or a peachy tone if you are lighter), and look for a 'highlighting' product that does NOT contain sparkles (many do) and apply it strategically... I think Iman's line includes both of these products, and I find her blush sticks to be superior, and to come in amazingly beautiful shades. "Make Up for Ever" might have some nice things too--look for highly pigmented products.
I have dark-ish skin too and I love emu oil or OSEA's "eyes and lips," both of which give me a "satiny" look--not *too* dewy if you know what I mean. I place these products around my browbone and cheekbones several times during the day, and they keep me looking dewy, but not oily. These all produce a more natural look.
The trick is finding these kinds of products for dark skin--I used to represent makeup artists in nyc and making anyone's skin, including african skin like Evas, look dewy nd glowy requires a color pallette in and of itself- it is a true art! and unfortunately, the color palettes for white skin are more numerous.
Also, try MAMA lotion at night a couple of times a week--it is a really effective exfoliator that I know has worked for several of my friends and many people out there with darker skin, which tend to collect dark spots and can get ashy. look at the reviews of this product on a website called skincarerx. it got me to buy this product, and it is really effective (but can make your face peel--use it carefully!) i have really normal skin and i really like this product.
hope this helps.

have you had a look at giorgio armani's fluid sheer. You can add it to your moisturiser, foundation or even use it on it's own, and it gives a really nice glow, and it comes in a number of shades.

When I was at CVS yesterday I was eyeballing the Milani tinted moisturizers. You might want to check those out since they come in about 10 different colors from light to really dark and they are geared towards multicultural skintones. I don't know if they're any good though.
I was also thinking something like the MAC strobe cream maybe? I've read great reviews on it but I don't know how it works for all different skin tones. I would think it would be fine since it doesn't contain color from what I understand. Check out the reviews on MUA. |

IMO the way to go for glowy skin is to spray yourself with some dry oil (I like Body Shop's Passion Fruit scented one, yumm!!), and then after it sinks in/dries a little bit, top it off with just a SMALL amount of shimmer powder. I use either Urban Decay's Mai Tai powder, or Dessert Beauty's Taste powder. I have very fair skin, so for Dessert Beauty the "Dreamy" powder might be more suitable for your skin (it's a chocolate-bronze), but UD's Mai Tai powder is a very neutral gold so I think it would look good on you too. |

This is my absolute favorite luminizer I just bought FS #3 for a bronzing affect. I can't tell you gals how great this product is. In fact I used it today all over my face, no foundation, just s/s underneath and alittle loose powder on top of the FS(GA as well). They have all color ranges of the Fluid Sheers. Try calling Sax 5th Ave in NY for samples or GA Boutique in the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. Someone should be able to send you free samples and help you with your selection if you're interested. |

is this like a tinted moisturizer? sounds interesting. i HATE sparkles and shimmers so much, that I cannot use anything that remotely has them. i'm in the market for a TM, is this one?

Hey Tasha -
I agree with avalange and also think that you should try all of them before buying a full size to see if they give you the effect you're looking for on your skin and more importantly - to make sure they don't break you out.
You want a color that is a perfect match - that evens out your skintone and doesn't have shimmer - but is light reflective and luminous for a natural glow.
After asking the SAME exact question I recently got this tip from a MA:
On top of your foundation/tinted moisturizer - swipe a small amount of highlighter across your forehead, down the center of your nose, dab a little of it high on the cheekbone and at the cupid's bow of your mouth. Blend the highlighter very well at the forehead, cheekbones and down nose - with a foundation brush. Doing this will help you put the "glow" where the light actually hits your face.
For blush -try the Cheekie from Julie Hewett
http://www.juliehewett.net/face/cheekie.htm
Peachie, Rosie and Jami will help you get the same cheek looks that we saw on Eva on ANTM. You can use a combo of gel blush as your base with a slightly shimmery same color powder on top for extra glow. These last very well (better than Tarte cheek stain or Delux flush sticks) and can be used on your lips as well. Julie Hewett also has highlighter called Shimmie that you can use all over - eyes, cheeks, lips etc.
The MA told me that the looks on Eva where created by layering products and blending them to perfection on top of very well cared for skin. I also read that Iman recommends finding the right tone bronzer with the right amount of shimmer to get year round glow.
Keep us updated on how this works out for your - HTH |
