Melatonin users - have any of you noticed that your skin looks better the morning after taking melatonin? I use it once in a while and always feel like my skin looks more even/brighter. Maybe it's because you have a deeper sleep and therefore skin gets better rested/repaired? I'm tempted to take melatonin every night but am a little scared since it's unknown what the longterm effects are. |

Not really. I've been taking melatonin for maybe about two weeks now? I take 3x 3mg tablets each night. My skin looks about the same in the morning and looks better when I use the Ylang Ylang balm at night (I've seen this happen many times now so I am putting it down to Decleor). I also have to add that the melatonin doesn't really seem to be helping my sleep patterns either - and neither does my newly acquired "Origins Nite-trition" by Dr Weil for Origins |

I just thought I would throw in here how melatonin works. It's what your body naturally produces typically when it starts to get dark outside and it is what makes you feel sleepy. However, when you take it as a supplement, it only acts to trigger your body that it needs sleep and gets you tired enough to fall asleep. It doesn't actually maintain your sleep throughout the night. My bf takes it every now and then and got me curious so I asked one of the docs that I work with and that is how he explained it to me. I have no idea if it has any effect on the skin, but I wouldn't think so other than perhaps it leading to you getting more sleep than usual. |

Thank you TAMgirl99! I guess that kind of explains why it's not really helping, though I was under the impression that it was also supposed to extend the number of sleep hours... |

I always get some melatonin any time I visit the States (can't get it in the UK, or have it shipped due to restrictions on certain supplements) - it really does work for jet lag, so fab if you're doing any travelling. Helps you get to sleep when you want to in the new time zone. |

Wow, 9g sounds like a lot! I take 1-3g (mine come in 1g pills) depending on how un-tired I'm feeling. I have really bad sleeping habits (normally don't go to bed before 2:30am) so I take it when I need to make myself go to sleep early. As for "helping" my skin, it makes the color very even. For ex, I have broken caps and they become a lot less noticeable. Guess it shows I need to be getting to bed earlier... |

Meant to add earlier - although I think the melatonin is great for helping to induce sleep, I haven't noticed any effect on my skin when I take it . |

I thought so too, but having not taken it before I am just following the instructions on the bottle, which is 3x3mg tablets for inducing sleep and 2x3mg tablets for maintenance of "general health". Go figure! |
