I don't know why I haven't posted for help before on this issue.

I have a horrible time trying to effectively shave my inner thigh area, particularly the upper thigh area - not so much toward the knee. Doesn't matter what razor, what shave gel or cream, or which direction I shave... I still have the pricklies when I'm done. Confused

I'm tempted to have the area waxed as a head start to maintenance, but goodness me... that's a huge area to wax and I'm dreading the pain. Shock

I've never tried any hair removal lotions because my mother had a terrible reaction to Nair once and we have similar product reactions (I also inherited her bad feet and arthritis... but I digress...)

In retrospect, I never should have started shaving these areas in the first place because it would have been white blonde peach fuzz. But that's over 20 years ago and it's a bit too late now. Laughing

Any thoughts out there, other than lasers?

If it's the ingrowns that give you trouble after shaving, using TendSkin 2x/day for the next 5-7 days should help with that. If you just prefer the idea of waxing as longer-lasting, you could take a pain reliever like Tylenol or Advil 30 minutes before waxing. There is also a topical numbing cream that can be applied to the skin and that'll eliminate a lot of the pain too. Very Happy

I'm a real crybaby when it comes to waxing, and I've found that taking some ibuprofen an hour or so beforehand helps to take the edge off the pain. I also take a few drops of Bachs rescue remedy a few minutes before and find it very calming. I use an epilator in the summer on my legs and have to do this every time or I'd never get through it!

I have that problem too. By now, though, I'm pretty in tune to what direction everything grows in and I can pretty much eliminate stubble. Also, I feel I'm a pretty seasoned shaver. Very Happy

Just a few things I do/use that really make for a good shave: Schick Quattro (best razor for women, ever), exfoliate before shaving, make shaving the last thing in the shower so the hair is soft from being saturated with water, use a cream to shave like a rich body wash (you'll get a closer shave), and finally Jergens Naturally Smooth shave minimizing lotion. It really works! It makes hair finer, easier to shave off, and I notice after using it for a couple years, not as much hair grows back.

I believe BLISS has exfoliating, ingrown hair prevention pads. I know I bought them at Sephora...I'm just not 100% sure of the maker...but I definately think it's BLISS. I'm on vacation at the moment, so I don't have the jar with me.

I bought it about a month ago and have used it a few time and feel it has helped somewhat.

Good Luck

First I must agree about regretting shaving upper thigh area.. although I stopped early after the horrific results.. I shaved maybe twice and waxed a couple of times in just one patch and for years and years it has always grown back darker and longer than anywhere else... Now everything's back to normal PHEW

Have you tried cold waxes? I know waxing, or the act of ripping hair out in anyway is painful.. but I've used that Nad's stuff and it was actually a lot better than regular hot wax. And it's less messy too. Oh and always have an ice cold compress next to you.. I slap it on straight after waxing and it helps numb the pain really well.

I was considering an epillator, but I'm not sure how well it actually grabs hair by the roots, it might just cause the same pain as waxing but break the hairs..

Another thing I've seen is those hair exfoliating gloves, I think they work pretty well but if you over buff it can lead to dry patches.

I'd go the waxing way... swig a couple of beers beforehand Shock , go to the parlor and it's over in 5-6minutes.
No point taking painkillers, they're designed to go to the source of pain when in pain - not run around inside your body waiting for pain to arrive.

Okay, here's the deal. I just ordered Tend Skin, I've started exfoliating the area before shaving, and I will buy the Schick razor this weekend. I will give these efforts a grand old try. In the event of failure, it's off to the salon to get waxed, by way of a local tavern! (I like this idea!)

As much as I'd love to try at-home waxing, hot or cold, I'd rather blame the pain on someone else.

Regarding the epilator, something tells me I'd be unsafe with it... I don't even trust myself with a curling iron. I'm just not a coordinated sort of person and rarely allow myself to experiment with any new implements. My coffee pot is 10 years old. Rolling Eyes

Thanks to everyone for your recommendations. I love having a resource, even for the most basic of questions.

DEFINITLEY stay away from doing it yourself! If you're not used to waxing, DIY would probably be a totally ghastly experience...nightmares.

Good luck - and let us know how it all goes Very Happy

I have the same problem. What I have found that works is Avena (sp) shave gel. a SHARP razor, of course I can use a razor over a couple different times, but not for this area. I make sure my skin and hair are nice and supple (so shave last), this area is the only area I do have to shave in a couple different directions to get it all. Still I feel that it grows back quicker in this area and any other, but I have to deal with it).
Also from time to time, it seems like I will get a cluster of dark hairs that group together and when I shave it never really looks shaved (sort of like the 5 o'clock shadow), so I pluck those hairs before I start shaving.
On another note, I would like to invent a pill we can take and all the hair falls off. The problem is, I want hair on my head!
