Hello,
I have a question about the expiration date of a Dermalogica tinted moisturiser with SPF I just purchased. I made the order for the moisturiser yesterday and got it today. But when I looked at the expiration date on the box it said 08/06. I'm just wondering how strict this is? The reason I ask is that I only need to use a very small amount of the product and know that it will last me way beyond august 2006. I feel a bit cheated to be honest because I don't want to throw away a product I just bought. Especially since it will take a long time to use it up.
I cannot tell when it was manufactured - there doesn't seem to be a date on it - but I was wondering whether products with SPF have a short shelf-life? Having said that, when I purchased another product with SPF from Dermalogica, the expiration date was set for 2007.
I've already written to the online store I bought it from, but I doubt that they will replace it for me. Does anyone out there have any advice on the matter? I feel like I've been duped. Maybe I'm over-reacting but if I were buying from a store, the first thing I would do would be to check the expiration date. I'm annoyed that these people think that they can treat their online customers like this. |

I would definitely return it for a replacement. Yes, SPF products do have a relatively short shelf-life, usually 12 months because the actives start to deteriorate over time. It's not so much that it goes bad, but you will not be fully protected from the sun!
I received my MD formulations total protector a few weeks ago and the exp. date is the 07/07, so will be good for a little over a year.
It sounds to me like they are getting rid of old stock esp. if it's only good for about 3 months. I would return it! |

Thanks for the advice. You must be right. I really hope they will take it back. If they don't, they'll be losing a customer... |

Any self-respecting company with an even half decent customer service would either take it back or replace it with new stock!!
Good luck! |

Thanks, I think I might need it. Customer care in the UK is not the same as in North America |

I am soooooooooo angry!!! I wrote to the Sales people, saying that I would like to have a product that isn't going to expire within the next three months and here is his reply:
"I am sorry but this is not old stock, it is not out of date and as the
largest stockist of Dermalogica in the world you are unlikely to find
fresher."
The cheek of it. Is salonskincare.co.uk really the largest stockist of dermalogica in the world?
Somebody out there please advise! I can't believe they are going to get away with this..

I would contact the Dermalogica company direct, giving them full details of your order, the expiry date, your e-mail contacting salonskincare.co.uk and their unhelpful reply.
Tell them how very disappointed you are with the ridiculously short expiry date, with your treatment by salonskincare.co.uk, and that this is putting you off using their products in future.
Although you must be understandably furious, make sure you word your message as politely, clearly and concisely as possible. That way you tend to stand more chance of getting a good result.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Let us know what you decide to do and how you get on. I haven't used salonskincare.co.uk before and I must say that your experience would put me off doing so.
Go get 'em, girl! |

tinakiss - Just been checking and, if you don't want to order through EDS to the UK, there's a UK-based website called hqhair.co.uk that also stock Dermalogica. I have used them for other things in the past and have been satisfied with everything I've received.
In the event that you do want to order from hqhair, be sure to go towww.beautybible.com and click on the link there that gives 10% off. The only thing I don't like about hqhair is the delivery charge, which can be pretty expensive. |

majorb, thanks for the tip - I've been put off ordering from hqhair because the delivery is very high (especially since it's all mainland UK and not exactly vast distances!). They have some nice stuff though, so this is definitely an incentive.
Hmm...not sure if that's a good thing after all . |

Does this mean that I shouldn't use my SPF Foundation once it's expired? I have about 3/4 of the bottle left and it expires in June. |

The foundation itself would probably be OK, but the sunscreen would not be as effective, if at all. |

Hello guys,
sorry it took me so long to get back but I was away from email over the weekend. Thanks for your help majorb, that's really kind of you.
Here's the latest - After I received the email from salonskincare.co.uk I wrote to another importer of dermalogica products and asked them when their SPF moisture tint product expires. They also said that it expires on 08/06. The lady explained that the only problem that they have with dermalogica is that sometimes the products they send to the suppliers have an expiration date looming not too far ahead. In which case, she said that her company sends the products back to dermalogica.
Anyways, so at least, salonskincare was not trying to rip me off. I thought everyone should know about this just in case you are thinking of ordering from them. I've never had any other problem with them. It's just that their answer to my query was a very generic one and for me, it was unconvincing. But luckily, the lady from the other online store explained the situation with me and I'm now satisfied that the current batch out from dermalogica expires on that date, no matter which supplier you buy it from.
