I would love to start curling my hair at the weekend but am unsure what to go for.
I already have some rollers but these just creat waves and I want some nice tight curls.
Do I go for Curling Tonques or a set of bendy rollers? |

I guess it depends on the look you want. If you want more of a unconstructed look, I'd suggest rag rollers-- just cut up some fabric, roll your (damp) hair around it, tie it, sleep in it. Or you could just blow it dry, or use a bubble dryer (really, though, I think I have the last one of those in existance. Thanks, Grandma!) I used to do this and it gave me nice tight curls.
As far as Shirley Temple style curls go, I think the best way to get that look is a curling iron with a small barrel.
I'm not sure what bendy rollers are! |

I found the bendy rollers impossible to use - they just wouldn't stay in my hair, although it might be easier if you just have well-behaved straight hair (unlike me). Also, it'd probably be a good idea to get someone else to do the back for you.
Curling tongs give a more temporary effect, but would probably be okay just for a night out.
Mind you, I'm completely useless at anything to do with hair, so you might get better advice from another poster! |

I agree with the rag "look" if you are going for the messy type of look. I like that for everyday, jeans sort of days. It is really easy to do and sleep in, with minimal pain and hassle. When I wake up and pull the ties out, I fix a couple areas that might be sticking up, and spray it. When I want the "kept" look, I have a hot roller set that takes 10 minutes to heat up, I roll my hair and remove rollers, blow dry and spray. I control it with "fly away gel" (not named, any gel will work). This is my office look. Experiment, small barrel curling irons work great for the big curl hair look. I try to create a different look everyday. I have shoulder length hair..with layers. |
