Hello 
Is there anything that would get rid of blackheads ( especially on the chin ) without having to squeeze them?
Anytime I try to do so I get terrible red spots that wont go away 
I have the skincare tool but it doesnt work for me.
Is there a mask that would suck them all out?

The blackhead tool is EASY to use. You place the loop or small hole OVER the blackhead and press down until the blackhead comes out. Thats it! You may be left with some redness but that will go away.
Or you can use a beta hydroxy acid all over the area. This works good. I use the combination together. |

| Aga - it really helps to steam your face before you use the extraction tool. It makes it a LOT easier for them to pop out. |

Aga: I am the same way. I cannot use that tool to save my life. I must have ten thumbs and it is ugly, really ugly. I have followed the directions it supplies and also read a great review at makeup alley on usage and I still can't get the darn thing to work. I have even bought another brand to see if that was the problem, but of course it didn't work either. I'll stick in the review and instructions from makeup alley as it appears in the review below. It is long, but I think it covers all the basics. From what I know anyway. Unfortunately it didn't help me, but hopefully it will be helpful to you or others.

Okay, the following is NOT for the squeemish, but if you are going to play with your skin, do it with this tool and you will have better results and (if you do it right) no scars. I have friends that are licenced skin care pros, and they have shown me how to do this right. This is so much better than pore stips, which sort of work for some people but leave behind most of the stuff deep in the pore, and they are no good at all for a pimple. Clay masks, despite what some may say, can't remove a clogged pore either. Extraction really is the only way, although if you can't be gentle and patient you are much better off paying a pro to do it for you.
I have several of these tools, one from Revlon, aTweezerman (my fav), and two from Sephora, all of them are kind of similar shapes and will work very well if you get a good technique going. They only sort I don't like and don't work for me are the ones that are a flat little key shaped hunk of cheap metal with a hole at either end. The kind you want have a small wire "loop" at either end, and bent up like a spoon.
Step one.Try using a well formulated glycolic acid, or better yet, a BHA product ( try Paula's Choice, Peter Thomas Roth for some good choices), for a week or so. This will really loosen up any blackheads and make them easier to remove, plus they help prevent new blackheads and blemishes.
Step two. Have a nice steamy bath or shower and clean your face really ,really well, but don't scrub. The heat and steam from your shower will make them easier to remove . BTW, I don't recomend steaming your face with a pot of boiling water, the steam is too hot and scalding, and you will make yourself swollen and red. The idea is to keep redness and irritation to a minimum.
Step three. Blot your face dry and work where you have very good light. This sounds just awful but I go out on my patio in the noon day sun with a magnifying mirror. Yikes! Have handy some ice, some alcohol to clean your tool, tissue, cotton wool and some ibrubrofin (Tylenol, not Aspirin) to take if you get red easily. I do, and this helps a lot. If you like, and this is REALLY optional,if you want to remove a pimple or a whitehead, I reccomend picking up a box of sterile disposable lances at the drugstore, found where they keep the Diabeties suplies. These are much sharper (and safer) than the lances you will find built in on some tools, and that is better because they make a smaller, cleaner hole and they don't hurt. They are pretty cheap too. If you have a whitehead or full blown pimple you want to remove, what you do is gently prick the top of the pimple or whitehead with the lance. This should not hurt at all, what you want to do is just nick the top of the blemish, not jab it. If you do not make a place for the contents of the pimple or whitehead to come out, you will have to rupture the skin of the blemish with pressure with the tool. This not what you want to do, because you can force the contents of the blemish deeper into your skin and cause more problems. Not good. If you nick the top of the skin with the lace the contents will have a place to exit without much pressure on the skin. Now place your tool scoop side up (like a spoon) over the blackhead, pimple or whitehead and GENTLY ROCK the tool from side to side a few times, and it shoud make the contents come out.Do not scrape the tool across the skin, and don't dig at it with the tip of the scoop. If the clog doesn't come out move on and don't try to force it. Sometimes I will come back and try again after a min or two and it will pop right out on a second try. If nothing happens-trust me-leave it alone. It is not close enough to the surface to extract and you will have to wait. Don't dig for it! This is how you make a scar.
After you have extracted a blackhead or blemish, hold some ice in the spot for a min or two and you will prevent redness and bruising. Limit yourself , do this only once every few weeks or once a month. After you are all done pop a Tylenol and put on a little Tea tree oil or BPO to kill any bacteria ( my fav is Pater Thomas Roth 5% BPO Gel, there is no alcohol,clay or fragrance and it is totaly non-irritating). I would try to do this on a day when I wouldn't need to wear any makeup. I just slick on a little light moisturizer where i need it . I would not advise putting foundation or concealer on a feshly extracted pore,as it will need some time (overnight is good) is shrink back down a bit and heal, and slicking makeup over top is an invitaion to another cloged pore.
So thats is it, Pore exctraction 101. Gross, kinda, but highly effective. |

3 words. Estee Lauder Micro-D. Amazing. I had so many blackheads arond my nose.. ewww I don't want to even think about it. it took some time.. but its the only thing thats worked for me.. And Ofcourse Obagi Blender, Retin-A at night really made a difference. I've tried.. all the masks. and scrubs. and facials. and steems over the pot and skintools.. but then again.. what works for me might not work for you.. just have to try and find out for yourself. good luck  |

I got so involved in finding that review from makeup alley that I didn't get into what I think is good for getting rid of blackheads. I really love the Mario Badescu Silver Powder myself. You wet a cotton ball and press it into the powder then put on your problem areas. It is sort of like a paste by then. This product has been discussed before a little bit and I know that it was a disappointment to some people, but it works wonders for me especially on the nose. I was amazed from my very first application of the powder and my pores on my nose were noticably better. As I kept using it my pores got better and better after each use. It doesn't get everything right away and you add more clogged pores between uses, but those come out also. I use it a few times a week and have started adding a 5 minute rinse off mask with salicylic acid acid right after I use it once I have wiped off the Silver Powder and rinsed the area. Silver Powder is somewhat difficult to get off, but I find that if I take a couple of cotton pads, put Witch Hazel on them and wipe it off and then rinse that it comes off pretty well. That sounds like a lot of trouble, but it isn't really. You don't do it every night and getting it off using the method I mentioned takes very little time. I think that you can use any toner or even water if you prefer in getting it off. |

The Mario.. powder sounds intruiging

| I'm still unclear exactly what a blackhead is. Is seems by what you can do to them (removal) that it is somewhat distinguishable from the surrounding skin. Are they raised? What precisely is the difference between blackheads and moles? |

A blackhead is a pore that is clogged, and you can see a little black dot in the middle of the pore 
Thats as scientific as it gets from me
Hopefully someone else can give more precise info.

I took a hot bath hoping this will help the gunk to come out ...
But as usual the skincare tool didnt work for me, sadly I ended up with red indentions all over my face lol
As a last resort I used a nose strip on my chin and WOW, it sucked a LOT of blackheads out! Barely any left!
I guess its probably not the best solution in the long run but it did work you know!

Ah too bad. I was hoping that it would work for you. Well at least there are two of us in the 10 thumbs club instead of just one. Not just a lone voice crying in the wilderness. Everyone says it is so easy to use that tool, but I can't make the darn thing work. If you are the only person in the known world having trouble you end up thinking that you gotta be a bit dim-witted.  
Hey if the strips work now for you, that's great. I don't know one way or the other how they would be in the long run. Probably not good as you said though. But in the short term get those babies out of there and celebrate unclogged pores. |

| Ok, add me to the club. I have had the tool for over 2 years and still couldn't make it work. I like to use my fingers better (I know, BAD!) but at least I can get the gunk out... |

I never know how to use the tool. I always get it done in Facial and ask specifically to get rid of the blackheads with their tools.
Just curious, with fingers squeezing, does it really work well ?? |

Squeezing with your fingers work as long as the blackheads aren't deeply embedded in the skin. Sometimes I pick at it and then use my tweezers to pick it out (I know...it's gross).
The first product that worked really well on my blackheads was Dr. Hauschka Rejuvenating Mask. I didn't even leave it on for the 15-20 minutes but my blackheads were significantly diminished. |
