I spent an hour with my mouth wide open at the dentist yesterday and now I have cracked skin in the corners of my mouth. Hurts like a _____.
I've tried Vaseline, Bag Balm, and Lubriderm lotion, to no avail.
Please, somebody, know what to do. |

The only thing I can think of is Aloe Vera Gel. |

Try a bit of 0.5% hydrocortisone, usually works well, do not use it long term though (weeks), hths. |

I posted this once on a fever blister thread, opps, but I get the cracked sides only in the winter and very rarely but what works magic for me is pure lanoline, if I feel that dryness coming on I put it on at nite and poof gone by morning, worst case is later that afternoon all the dryness is healed. You can buy a jar for cheap at the healthfood store and mine has lasted for years. |

Okay - so here goes the battle. Thanks to Yen, I fled to the medicine cabinet where I found an aloe gel with lidocaine! Yippee! So now that the pain's gone temporarily, and I'm no longer going postal, I can figure out what I have on hand tonight to start the healing. Not sure if I should dry them up or moisturize them. Don't have hydrocortisone or lanolin on hand, so I need to choose between caladryl, which would dry them, or neosporin with lidocaine which could keep them moisturized .... Will post tomorrow with results of the decision/experiment.... and then probably grab some hydrocortisone and lanolin regarldess because I should have them on hand for the future anyway.
Thanks guys! Knew I'd get help here. |
