Hi! I use the SPF 50+ Cream (orange tube). You only need a tiny bit, I found the best way to apply it is to squeeze a pea size amount onto my palm then rub both palms together then smooth onto my face - this warms the cream up and allows you to apply an even layer. I find it doesn't leave you white or too shiny. I can get oily by lunchtime but this isn't too bad - I powder in the morning them touch up once at lunch and that does me till the evening. I burn in the UK in the shade in a few minutes so if it stops me burning and my freckles poping out then it must be good!
(I use it over PSF Vit C and Juice Moisturiser too in the winter and just over the vit C in the summer when my skin isn't dehydrated and its fine.). |

Hi Lucia. I have Avene SPF 50+ and SkinCeuticals Ultimate SPF30. Have you tried SC's Ultimate SPF 30? If you do, which one is better? I am trying to decide which one to stick with. Thanks. |

I am trying to get Avene with Tinosorb.
I live in Canada and I don't think Tinosorb is approved here but I am going to Europe soon so I hope to get several bottles of Avene.
Lucia, is the one that you are recommending with Tinosorb?
I am trying to avoid avobenzone so I am going for Avene with Tinosorb |

Lucia,
Just so that you know, it is recommended to use 1.25ml (1/4 teaspoon) worth of sunscreen to your face alone.
A lot of people just use a tiny bit of sunscreen to avoid the whitecast or the greasy effect and that will not provide the full sun protection. |

mmm..I should get some of those measuring spoons so i can check I'm using enough.
Though sometimes i think I'm too heavyhanded when lathering on creams.
LRP is so runny to its hard to measure out in my hand, same with my avene spray. Ithink i read somewhere if you dont use the recommended amount you halve the SPF protection |

Phew - lots of questions!
Yes it is the one with Tinosorb and yes I have used SC SPF 30 - Avene wins hands down.
As to the amount - I use a small amount on a daily basis over Juice Green Apple Spf 15 (I am a SPF anorak as I am so fair and also because my Dad had skin cancer). The Juice SPF is purely physical and I wear it mainly for its other benefits.I also wear mineral makeup over all of that which has an SPF of 15. This is more than enough on a daily basis when I'm not outside for long periods. Thsi allows me most of the benefits of a good SPF but also to be able to apply make up over the top and not suffocate my skin.
When I am outside in the sun (if it can't be avoided) I don't wear foundation of anysort and slather on the avene regularly - it still doesn't go icky. I also wear a hat, and hide during the hottest part of the day !
I burn on overcast cloudy days here in summer and my freckles come out even if someone says 'UV' in the same room as me - with this method I get no more freckling and no burning!

viesia I used my spf50 spray again today for the first time in a fair while. This time I measured out the correct 1/4 teaspoon and found it not bad. There's a slight shine but you cant see me coming a mile away u know what i mean. My makeup still looks ok a few hrs later.
I think in the past I've overdone it and applied too much resulting in a greasy shiny mess.
It depends on my skin on any given day too, some days its oilier than others for some reason.Today I'm having a good skin day
Its worth a try anyway, at least you can wear makeup over it and you could blot with cornflour or Jurlique silk dust.
One thing I liked about it awhile ago-despite the oiliness- was that it didnt break me out.
P.s the spray is a nice light runny lotion.I hate thick creams |

viesia, you are so lucky to be going to Europe! I have a similar problem - I'm in the U.S. Argh! I'm so glad to hear that the avene 50 spray is superior to the skinceuticals, which I currently use and don't mind too much. That sounds promising - if only I could find a good reliable resource for the avene spray. Can anyone help us? |

okay i just checked out two of the sites i just posted tubotica.com and garden.co.uk
Tubotica have fantastic prices. The avene spray on tubotica that i have is $13.33 USA! Garden co are asking nearly 40 australian dollars!
I would go with tubotica,i certainly will next time.I have bought from them before and they are a good company. If you are a member of makeupalley they give a discount and theyre generous with samples.
At the tubotica site click on cosmetics, then on the right of the page, click on categories, then scroll down to the sunscreens at the bottom.
I'm just telling you that because the avene sunscreens arent under the avene brand on the brand selection icon.HTH
Also if you type samples in the search bar it will take you to a section where you can pick 10 different samples. One sample of each of the 10 different brands. |

I can't find the post but I recall reading on this forum recently that you should use 1/4 Tablespoon of sunscreen for your face and throat. It seems like 1/4 teaspoon would be way too little. |

Just now I actually tried measuring my sunscreen before I put it on. I got a 1/4 teaspoon and tried filling it. I way overfilled it and probably had about 1/2 teaspoon. This 1/2 teaspoon was enough to cover my face and neck.
So I guess that 1/4 teaspoon is more than I thought and should be enough for your face alone. Odd how my sense of quantity could be so off I guess it pays to measure instead of guessing!! |

I'm pretty sure it's 1/4 tsp for your face and 1/2 tsp for both your face and neck.
I've been using about 10 sprays of my LRP Dermo-Peds spray for my face alone. I'll have to measure this out and see if it's enough. |

carolb69, thanks for all your help! I finally decided and ordered the Avene 50+ spray from tubotica. The shipping made me gag, but the total came to about $40 so I still think that's pretty good. If anyone knows of a cheaper way, please let me know.

pnw,
Are you in the US? If so don't select the fedex shipping. Select the one that doesn't say fedex. A lot of fedex packages have been held up by FDA
Hope you like your new sunscreen. |

Thats okay.Did you just order the one item?It probably pays to stock up a little, I think I will next time.

I only bought the one bottle because I want to try it out first. I figure if I don't like it for my face, it will still be great for my body. Also, I don't know yet if I'm one of the allergic ones. If all goes well, though, I will definitely stock up on the next order to make it more cost effective. So far, I've emailed the company three times and have gotten quick, direct responses and I'm impressed. The 50+ is probably better for me anyways because I spend alot of time outdoors in the summer. |

pnw I just wanted to let you know when I told you I measured out the avene to use a 1/4 teaspoon I was only using a teaspoon at home.Today I bought the proper measuring spoons you use for cooking and was shocked at how much they expect you to use on your face I used the full 1/4 teaspoon for my LRP and had to apply two heavy coats though it still dried to a matt finish on me but I thought there's no way I'd put that much avene on! as I told you before being heavy handed with avene left my skin very shiny. But I figure using sunscreens with high PPD at least if you halve the amount your still getting good protection(hope so anyway) With winter coming on here I avoid the outdoors anyway as much as possible so I'm not going to worry to much about using so much...maybe in summer when I'm out for long periods.
I can honestly say I havent been sunburnt for years and I've only been applying small amounts of sunscreen and mostly(until discovering this board)only 15+ so i do wonder about the 1/4 ts rule.
I might try bioderma next time as thir PPD is 35! |

thanks, carolb
I'm used to putting on alot of sunscreen and figured that if I can't avoid the shine, at least with the avene I can still use my mmu. I was considering LRP, Avene, and biotherm. Didn't go with the LRP because of the mmu issues and didn't choose biotherm because it seems people get mixed results with breakouts. This one sounded like the best option to begin with. I'll let you all know what I think! If you do go with biotherm, I'd love to hear about your experience! |

Hi all - Sorry I've been late to this thread. I've been using Avene since last summer and love it. In more humid weather, I use the Spray rather than the Creme which I use in winter.
I get mine from "lwsue" (Singapore based) on eBay. Excellent service and always lots of nice samples. The shipping is much better than from the European Internet sellers. Included in my last shipment (I go through a lot of sunscreen but maybe I'm applying more than the 1/4 tsp.) was a sample of the Avene Emulsion. I haven't tried it yet but it's supposed to be more matte. When it gets humid here I'll try it and let you all know how it compares. I also use LRP Fluide Extreme when I don't wear makeup. The Avene is more soothing because it doesn't contain alcohol, but it doesn't have as high of a PPD rating as LRP FE.
There's serious illness in my family right now so I've been out of touch. I'll try to keep you all posted about the Emulsion before too long. |

pnw I'll let you know when I've tried the Bioderma. This is the one I'm going to try next Bioderma SPF 50+ UVA 35 Photoderm MAX Lotion 100 ml. (Ex Max 100)because it gets good reviews on MUA for being light texturedand causing no breakouts. Plus you get twice as much than LRP for pretty much the same price, about $25 us.I think I better use up my LRP first though. It does have avobenzone in it though, I know you're trying to avoid that.I still wear a little makeup over LRP,just a dab of concealor here and there over a few capillary veins,I'm sure it cant do too much harm, its not like I'm applying a full face of foundation.
m.april will be interested in hearing your review. And sorry to hear about your family member.Hope they get better
