Hey you guys. After bragging about how my skin could handle Retin A and AHA, I now find that my skin actually IS getting somewhat dry and rough in texture.
My current routine:
AM
Cleanser
Skinceuticals C + AHA serum
Peter Thomas Roth sunblock
PM
Cleanser
Retin A .1 percent
usually add a moisturizer here
Anyway so my skin is starting to feel dry in the morning...and the PTR sunblock, rather than helping to moisturize, just sort of layers OVER the dry skin. I would compare it to coating Vaseline over a leather bag -- the texture of the leather remains the same, it's just shiny and slick looking. Anyway: I find it gross.
I'm looking to ditch the PTR sunblock (I do not recommend it unless you want to walk around having people use your forehead as a mirror!) and find a product that truly moisturizes effectively but without the slick gloss. Ideally a photostable oil-free sunblock. Would also consider a nice moisturizer that has a reliable sunblock component.
Does anyone have any product suggestions for me?

Sounds like a million dollar product, Janis. But there really isn't such an animal. It's either a moisturizer or a s/s, no product does a good job at both. |

I'm not sure if this is what you would be looking for but I've used it for about a year or two. DDF Photo Age Moisturizing SPF 30. I think it used to have the words Matte Finish in it, but looked the other day and it didn't. So I don't know if there are two. I have drier skin w/ occasionaly breakouts, but this did not cause me to breakout. Used it year round. |

I use Skinceuticals moisturizing sunblock, which does both rather nicely, but unless you want to wait an hour for the mirror effect to wear off, a little powder on the forehead, nose and chin does the trick for me. I am currently using Linda Cantello pressed with a brush--I do a very light dusting. |

I want my sunblock to moisturize because when I use sunblock AND moisturize, my face gets so very oily and shiny...it's simply overkill. I can't justify putting that many layers of gunk on my face.
As for Jane Iredale, I actually have a sample of that and I use it every so often. I like it... but having never been a makeup fan in my life, it's an adjustment. I know you can barely tell it's on... but to claim it's invisible would be a lie. It's difficult for me to get used to having it on my face. |

Have you tried Shiseido facial sunscreens? I've tried the SPF 36 UVA/UVB as a moisturizer under foundation with good success.
When I don't want to use foundation or just want a light coverage, I like CG Smoothers tinted moisturizer, which has an SPF 15. I can attest to the effectiveness of the SPF because it survived an afternoon in the hot sun recently when I forgot to use regular sunscreen.
I have combo skin so I am always judging a product by whether my forehead looks like an oil slick by noon. Neither do this.
Good Luck in the hunt! |

I'm going to try this product from DHC next week; it looks promising.

It's called White Suncreen spf 25. It doesn't say it moisturizes, but it has moisturizing ingredients (aloe, olive extract), and says it has a matte finish. It also has vitamin C and alpha arbutin. They have another UV product that is a moisturizer, but that one runs the risk of being greasy. |
