I am in search of the most light reflective mineral makeup besides bare minerals. I'm currently using Alima, but it is too matte for me, and I've since realized that I like the more glowy look. What ingredient in the mineral makeup gives that glow? Has anyone tried Everday Minerals or Uglogirl? Any other recs would be greatly appreciated! TIA |

Mica gives the glow, it also irritates alot of people. EDM is not very glowy unless you choose that for you finish, Im awaiting my samples of UGloGirl so I cant comment on that one. |

Everyday Minerals offers several different forumlations, so you can choose how glowy you want. Original Glo is sooooooo glowy, and even the semi-matte is still VERY glowy IMO, so you may want to try samples of them both. I prefer a VERY matte finish, so I stick with Alima.^-^ |

Can highly recommend Aromaleighs new Mineral finishing powder (Luminesce) for glow without showing up pores/lines etc (with no irritating stuff in it either).
http://www.aromaleigh.com/ludifipocoso.html
Worth checking it out - I use Cherub as I'm paler than a pale thing (LOL - read ghostlike !) For day I mix it with their Lilas color corrector as I find it wee bit too glowy but for evening on its own its sensational - you can also build it so have more glow on the brow/cheek bones or around eyes if you have circles. I find it much nicer and more versatile than a foundation with 'glow'.

I've tried BE, EDM and JI. I'd say in terms of glowy EDM>BE>JI. |

How does one manage to look 'glowy' without looking 'shiny'?
I cant bear to think that in certain lights I look as if I have silver in my blusher, for example.. I think I'm too old for that sort of thing.. |

I only tried two, everyday mineral and pure luxe (hope I am right with the names). I believe the former is more glowing. they even have options like glow, semi-matt, matt |

For me, glowy = shiny and comes from Bare Escentuals or Jane Iredale.
I prefer more matte types like J.Lynne or PureLuxe. |

Glow without shine is all in the application - Apply with a big fluffy brush - pour a little into the lid swirl into the brush and tap off excess - repeat/reapply on areas you want glow such as the cheeks and brows start from the outside of your face and work in so less is on the centre of your face - you can also apply a matte powder to the 'T Zone' if required - this will take away the appearance of shine (which tends to be worse on the T Zone) but leave you with an over all glow. With foundation smooth over with a soft flocked sponge on the T Zone will 'knock back' the shine a little.
Finish with a fine spray of mineral water/toner etc to make it 'meld' into your skin.
To increase glow use one of those 'fibre optic' brushes. (Aromaleigh do a lovely one).

For me - it was perfecting my application technique and finding a good MMU. I am loving UGloGirl, both the foundation and setting powder. The customer service is incredible. I sent her a pic of me- and she helped recommend the best color. And - it was perfect.

I LOVE pure luxe's 'April's Mix' as a finishing powder. I prefer Alima's MMU but finish with april's mix for a gorgeous glow. It's that glow that I always hear about but never knew what it meant. you can get bargain samples from their site at:

I just ordered a sample of April's Mix. I also noticed they have a new finishing powder called "You Glow Girl" that sounds exactly like what I'm looking for. It is a finishing/setting powder that is suppose to mattify, yet add the glow, but no shine. They even said they made the formulation for those who liked the "glowy" finish of BE, but who could not tolerate the Bismuth. Sounds a bit too good to be true, but I'll update.
I think that Pure Luxe's foundations may be too matte for me though.
Thanks for the link! |

Does anyone know which is more "glowy", Everday Minerals or UGloGirl? |

In my opinion, both EDM's original and semi matte formula are more "glowy" than UGlo's, which to me isn't glowy at all. Just a creamy, soft finish - very natural. I've been test driving it (trust me, I'm the queen of trying every mineral make-up in all of creation) and it's lovely. Next on my lemming list is Lumiere. Sounds like a winner.
I agree with Lucia on Aromaleigh's Luminesce product - gives that candlelit glow from within - just gotta be careful in application. Very pretty - one of my latest faves.

I use Everyday Minerals in the Original Glo. It's my favorite, so far. Since I don't use very much, it isn't shiny. I used to think I liked a matte finish 'til I realized natural looking skin isn't really all that matte. And, of course, since I'm "old", matte=dry- looking for me.

I just placed an order for the EM in original glow. I hope this will be my last. I've tried: BE (prob w/color match),Aromaleigh (just ok),Pur Minerals (breakout) ,Alima (too matte),& Physician's Formula (did nothing for me), Illuminare (liked the cream foundation, but prefer powder), and a few others I can't remember. |

I feel also that I'm 'old' at 47, so that I cant have too much 'glow' or I'll look silly, and cant have too much matte or I look formal and dry.
It's difficult, this aging lark! |

I'm 41, I'll be 42 in a couple of weeks and I love the glow look or maybe I should say "dewy" look. I don't want to look like I'm a glowing lightbulb either but I think with some of this mineral makeup (depending on the type) you can achieve this look (the dewy fresh-faced look) w/o looking too goofy, kwim? I've experimented with so many different brands that I think that's a key part in finding the look you're trying to achieve that will look good on you. Try getting samples, some of them are free while some of just a couple of dollars, from different brands and see what works. I wish you the best of luck in your search! |

I have tried both the You glow girl and April's Mix. You glow girl seems to be more glowy than April's Mix and I have to apply it with a lighter hand. Pure Luxe's foundations are nice, but I agree with you that they're too matte. I use Alima which has more glow and add April's Mix when I want extra glow. |

I have the same thing going on - at 43 - I don't want to look shiny, but I do want to look natural and fresh faced. Some MMU's I've tried really suck all the moisture right out of my skin and make it look very dehydrated. My goodness, when I think of all of them that I have tried, the mind boggles! I long for the day that I can finally stop sampling and say "GOT IT!" I loved Jane Iredale until I reacted to the bismuth in it. I wouldn't have started my sampling journey if I hadn't reacted to it. My skin will get dryer much more so in the winter though. I have to switch back and forth between liquid and minerals so my face doesnt' get too dry. So far, for my dry winter skin, UGlo doesn't seem to be making it too tight or uncomfortable, which unfortunately, Alima's did -, though I do like it for the summer (and their blushes are so pretty!) I just keep trying them all, and it could be that I might end up being just a seasonal MMU person!

yes, thanks for the responses, peers who are less young than we used to be!
I think sometimes the reviews on this board could be usefully categorised by age - as concerns develop in your 40's that werent there before.
I think I'll try some Uglo. I like Pure Luxe very much, and I think I'll get some April's mix to try - I had it before and didnt use it to it's best effect.
Is there anyone here who uses fibre optic brushes? Somoeone mentioned that they are helful, and I'd like to hear a comparative review between fibreoptic and kabuki - which is what I use. |
