I have recently acquired a tube of MMU lip gloss. While I love the colour ('rare rubies') and the staying power (due to its SUPER stickyness), I also hate the very same super stickyness!

I realise that the stickyness is what makes it last a long time. I don't dislike it because on a windy day hair seems to be attracted to my lips like a magnet, I don't even dislike it for the fact that when I try to kiss someone I become temporarily glued to them... BUT I hate that "white line" that you get on your lips after a few hours when you are using a sticky gloss. It's basically a while line of um... 'stuff' (Unidentified Lip Object - ULO Smile) that gathers where your lips meet. Does anybody know of a way around that (apart from removing completely and reapplying every few hours)? What is the aforementioned ULO?

Hey Alohagirl,

Mmmm, charming! Smile Good point though, since the gloss is really sticky if there is saliva continuosly in one place then it might dry up. Kinda puts me off wearing the lip gloss then (but it's such a nice colour! Sad), because if that's what it is then I don't see any other solution other than reapplying it every few hours!

Fine. But no swapping of lipglosses on MUA, okay?

I never quite understood swapping on MUA *puzzled look* I can understand it for perfume and say eyeshadow (you can scrape off the top I guess) but there are a lot of things that get swapped on there that just can't be sanitized properly!

Mabsy,

That ULO, I hate it too, it's so yucky, so gross, so uncivilized, so unacceptable, so very ungirly !!!

I don't think it has anything to do with our saliva, it's from some kind of wax or ingredients of some lipgloss and lipsticks, not all of them.

As for me, I have it whenever I wear Lancome Juicy and Cargo Three in One. I never get any white gunk on my lips when I wear JI lipstick or lipgloss, Estee Lauder Gloss Pops or Shiseido Make Up Lip Gloss. And for extra caution, after putting on lipstick and even lipgloss I always use " index finger between two tight lips then suck and pull" method ( I think you know this one, too) to get rid the lip stuff surplus off :P:P:P It always helps!

Awww, babyfish, you spoiled my fun.Sad

Actually, I agree with you. It does only happen with certain lipglosses, so like you said, it's probably just one of the ingredients.

And thanks for the "index finger" tip. I never heard of that, but I'm going to do it from now on cuz it sounds like it will keep lipstick off the teeth. That's never a pretty sight.Wink

Mention lip gloss and I'm there especially if it's Stila....!Very Happy I have two of the super-sticky Lancome Juicy Tubes in Prune and Melon but hate wearing them especially on windy days. Like you Mabsy, my hair goes staticky and I usually end up losing the battle, sporting a nice trail of gloss across my cheeks. Mad ! Why's it always windy when I'm feeling girlie and want to wear my hair down?!

I've always done the 'index' finger thing when wearing gloss or lipstick and I think that's the secret to not getting the ULO, as you've gotten rid of excess product between your lips, and yes Alohagirl, lipstick-free teeth ! Very Happy But if you're in a rush and have to apply make up on the run, and can't use your hands as they're not so clean, just fold a facial tissue in half and close both lips down on it's edge. Works just as great ! Wink

Another cause of ULO could be dehyration as well...and I think it's a mix of both product and dry spit. When you're wearing sticky gloss I think you're less inclined to put lips to a bottle or cup. In my case it is sometimes... straws are a humble, yet essential necessity ! :P

Thanks Ladies!

You're right it must be a combination of factors. I wore it yesterday and it was fine all day. I did the same thing today and I wasn't so lucky. I didn't drink as much water today though, so I think that might have been a factor. I also used a different lip balm.

Mabsy.
