Not that I'm stinky ( I'm a clean fish, pardon me!) but I'm not very good in choosing perfume for myself. Most of my "eau de toilette" and "perfume" are gifts. I always trust my mom, my sweetie, my friends with their good senses. But now, I really love to have one ( or two) that I can call "my personal notes". I'm going to be 25 very soon ( I have lived almost one quarter of a century:P:P:P). I think I am very sporty yet super girly...I have my nose and eyes too on Guerlain "With Love" and Ralph Lauren "Romance" ( they come in beautiful pink bottles)...Give me some of your precious thoughts, lds and gts, would you please! You just stumbled onto one of my most favourite topics.... PERFUME!

Ok, since you said that you are sporty and girly, I am not going to list anything that is 'heavy' or spicy.

Have you tried:

D&G Light Blue (very fresh)
Armani White (also very crisp and fresh)
Carolina by Carolina Herreira (soft floral)
Amor Amor by Cacharel (it has subtle rose in it - enough said! Smile)
Omnia by Bulgari - it's a very different one - you'll either love it or hate it but it has chocolate in it Wink
Gloria by Cacharel - a very SUPER sweet fragrance that lasts a LONG time on the skin.
D&G Sicily - powdery after it dries down (a bit heavy at first though)
Armani Night - can't quite describe this one. It's nice, a tiny bit spicy (to me at least) but not too much and not in a heavy way.
I also HAVE to mention Hugo Boss Deep Red (or the new HB Intense, they both smell almost identical to me). I LOVE this fragrance but unfortunately neither of them last on my skin at all. They're sweet and girlie, but sexy.

Recently I've been getting plenty of comments from strangers when I wear D&G Light Blue. It's such a fresh summery fragrance!

Let me know what you think of any of these if you end up trying any. Just remember that you can't just spray it on a card. You should spray it on your arm, from about 20cm away, and then give it about an hour before you decide if you like it or not.

Very Happy

How could I forget Lolita Lempicka! I have almost everything in the range (including the candle, the solid perfume and most recently the concetrated perfume oil roll-on *blushes*). This is one of my favourites..... just in case you couldn't tell Smile

Babyfish, Well I never used to wear perfume till I met Mabsy and Summertimegirl and they currupted me, hee hee :P

I wear Issey Miyake l'eau d issey because it's light and smells beautiful. I also tried Lulu Guiness: Life is a bed of roses (limited edition) and thought it smelled like a gorgeous bouquet of roses.

I am super picky and find most smells nauseating, and 95% of the time don't like most perfume smells.

BTW, Mabsy, I am impressed with your perfume knowledge and recs!

hey babyfish,

where do i start? I love perfumes. The last couple I have fallen in love with are Stilla's Creme Bouquet, and trussardi's Skin. Both are suitable for spring, but i wouldn't know how to start describing them.

What i can say though is people stop me in stores and on the street to comment on how good i smell, and i have not comes across anybody yet that wears either one. (That may be coz stilla is only available from mecca in melbourne so its not mainstream here)

I also agree D&G light blue rocks!
Actually Laguna is also nice, but i don't think it has lasting power.

Good Luck

OH NO!!!!!! SurprisedSurprised Mabsy! You set those lemmings loose on me!! Help! I must go try D&G Light Blue! Sounds like what I'd like - fresh and light.

BTW, Babyfish, if it helps at all, I had several compliments when I wore ROMANCE.

Another that I like is Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea - I think I am just partial to fragrances that are light and refreshing - nice for Spring!Very Happy

Cheers

Thoughtcrime - well compared to the hundreds and hundreds of perfumes that exist, my knowledge pales in comparison. The ones I recommended to BabyFish I just picked off my shelf. Though I forgot about Versace Baby Rose and Versace Glam! Both very nice and very feminine. And Versace Glam is NOTHING like the heady Versace Jeans Couture (the packaging is the same, just different colour diamontes). The first time I sprayed Versace Jeans Couture I became rather ill and had a massive headache. To make things worse that stuff was so powerful that even after I showered it was still there! I was in sheer perfume hell.

Athan - welcome to the forum Smile Can you tell me who makes Laguna and what sort of fragrance it is? We don't have Mecca in Brissy (just as well, their prices are Mad ) but I think I have seen the Stilla Creme Bouquet in Myer. I must remember to spray that next time....

Jenny - if you like light and fresh then you should really try D&G Light Blue. Also, Eclat D'Arpege by Lanvin smells almost identical as well but I find that D&G lasts longer on me.

Thank you ladies for all the great reviews and recommendations.

I started my search for a "personal fragance", the one that will make people remember and recognise me ...hee hee " Here she comes!" in a positive way. You know what I mean.

I have experienced a very "smelly" situation in that I was riding our building elevator with a lady who was wearing ( Oh Gosh!!!) such a strong perfume that made me want to p*** ( excuse me, please!) and the worse thing was she left me midway down. So when I at last got down to the ground floor and seeing a dozen of people impatiently waiting for their ride I gotto sincerely warn them about the smell and explained that it was not from me:(SadSad

Of all the perfumes I just very carefully made a long list from your so kind and generous advise, I will one by one put my nose to...D&G Light Blue, Lulu Guiness: Life is Bed of Rose, Ralph Lauren Romance, Lolita Lempicka ( I love their bottles)...and everything that listed...It will be fun. And I will be a more sophisticated perfume buyer from now rather that leave my fate on those SA hands.

Should I just have the perfume or eau de toilette or should I also get the body lotion too to "layer" them. Whenever receiving a perfume coffret, I always reach for the lotion first. I am a little bit shy and awkward using the spray bottle. I can't control the spray most of the time. I also like to spray them on my hair, I know the alcohol in them can dry out your hair but I can't help it... Does it matter how much you use? Will the quantity of perfume you wear at one time alter the intensity of the fragrance of just the fragrance itself will determine its own strength and lasting? I'm sorry but of perfumes I have no nose! I have good nose for food aroma but not for perfume notes.

Hi Mabsy,

Laguna is a fragrance I don't own, a friend wears it and everytime she gets into the car we all coment. It's very light and smells kind of powdery, clean and fresh.

I know though that it's available from perfume connection, (I'm sure I saw a store in brisbane when I was there last).
The bottle is in the shape of lips.

Now I'm curious to try Lolita Lempicka!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone

Dear Ladies,

Have you tried Sensi from Armani? Musky, floral, VANILLA powdery...very sexy yet not so strong...My sweetie pointed these notes out to me :P:P:P when we were shopping yesterday! But I have not bought it yet. I want to continue my adventure in fragrance-land.

Mabsy, I tried D&G Light Blue, it's a beautiful one, very very fresh, I'd like to have this on sunny spring days. I think I smell apple in it too. Yum!

Hello Babyfish,

I love perfumes, it's the ultimate 'invisible' Girlie accessory that you can use to leave your mark-- be it a subtle statement like a whisper of a clean light scent or not so subtle like the lady with the over-powering strong scent in your lift :P (could she have been wearing Chanel No 5 or Lancome's Poeme I wonder!?) Very Happy

I fell in love with Lolita Lempicka as I've never come across a scent like it before, it's an exquisite and unusual scent as it has in it ivy leaves and aniseed.. Mmm along with delectable Voilets, Vanilla and Musk... When I inhaled this for the first time it literally made my heart beam. SmileSmile If I had been blind-folded I would have still chosen this scent, it's just heavenly....It's a very alluring fragrance that guy and girl friends comment on. It's the perfume that definitely has the 'Je ne sais quoi..?' thing Very HappyWink They say that if you wear a certain perfume all the time it becomes your signature scent-- I think Lolita's become mine Wink ...Also you just can't help fall in love with the enchanting bottle. It's so so gorgeous. On work days I just wear the body lotion on its own (this is the one perfume who's body lotion will last all day on me)...so if you want to start wearing Lolita Lempicka the body lotion is fantastic...

The other perfume I like for night outs is Gucci 2 in the racy hot pink 'window' bottle... not imaginative as the Lolita Lempicka bottle but is equally seductive, but in a more flamboyant way. I wear this layered with the lotion underneath.

I may as well tell you the other favs I have now that I've gotten this far.... Wink

Fragile by Jean Paul-Gaultier (very sweet and sensual). I love snow-domes and this has a femme fatale in a dark dress with gold snow so it won me!

Classique by Jean Paul-Gaultier (warm floriental and what can I say classic!)

Gucci Eau De Parfum (a sultry, rich, feminine scent-- it's the vanilla and thyme in this perfume that does it)

The light-as-air clean and crisp scents: L'eau D'issey by Issey Miyake, 121 by Carolina Herreira

D&G's Light Blue is a gorgeously fresh feminine fragrance, and Babyfish your sense of smell is spot on as there is Granny Smith Apple in it, along with Bamboo, Jasmin, Amber and Musk.....this one is definitely YUMMM !!!

But girls, I have to mention Fracas by Robert Piquet is *THE* one I am secretly wishing for, definitely an after dark scent.... I tried this on in Mecca the other day and I was blown away Surprised! this one reminds me of ambient summer nights, hard to describe but I want it!!!!!

With 'eau de toilettes' I have to layer with the matching lotion as this makes the perfume last longer on me, so this means I really really have to like the perfume to go the whole 9 yards with the acompanying lotion. This will be the case when I get the D&G Light Blue as it only comes in EDT.

Eau de parfums have the higher concentration of the oils in the perfume and these are the best for me as I cannot hold a perfume for long.

The thing is, people with oilier skins can hold a perfume longer than those with dry skin as oilier skin has more natural moisture to hold onto the fragrance, other things are the person's pH levels (or acidity in the skin)... so that's something to also consider next time you go out to shop for a personal scent. Wink

I hate to do this to you but can you describe what kind of a scent this is? No Mecca in Brissy Sad Spicy, floral, fresh? Damn lemmings!

From one Lolita fan to another, I highly recommend the solid perfume (it is absolutely gorgeous - a solid gold apple with prince charming, as a frog, sitting on it). It's a LE and it was very hard to get in Brisbane but the minute I saw it I just had to have it. I don't use it much, I just wanted it to sit on my shelf with the rest of the Lolita "family". The concentrated perfume wand is also great, a tiny bit goes a long way and lasts all day! Very Happy

Mabsy,
Since you and Summertimegirl have the same taste in perfume, I think you might like Fracas.
But I am super sensitive to smells, and Fracas gave me an instant headache and made me feel nauseous. It was very strong and heady, but then again I am a lightweight when it coms to perfume (think Issey Mikake l'eau d' issey). I have a sample of it and next time you want me to send you something again, I can include it in the package, assuming it doesn't evaporate with your intense Aussie weather :P

hehe !! Thanks Babyfish, there's no danger of me leaving the forum I have enough trouble staying away from it !! :P:P:P

Besides wearing it behind your ears and on your neck, I read that it's best to wear perfume low on the body so that the scent has a chance to rise so you don't lose it as quickly, so I spray some above my navel and behind my knees as well ! But the BEST tip I ever heard was spraying some perfume on a cotton ball and placing it inside your bra ! Surprised I should have suggested this before Valentines Day (Mabsy Day) but there's always a day to try out something different! Wink

Mabsy, I hope you had a wonderful wonderful ! day on Saturday and I hope all your dreams come true this year !!Very Happy

Talk about Lemmings !! I don't know if you're starting the Lemming thing on my appetite for Lolita Lempicka or me on your curiosity for the Fracas fragrance?! Very HappyVery Happy How do I describe this fragrance.....?! I guess the closest description would be between a spicy and floriental, without too much of the spicy 'bite'....it's a pretty complex scent but so seductive that the man is going to want to muzzle into your neck to get a deeper whiff of it !! It's seriously gorgeous.... I guess it could be a perfume that you will either fall madly in love with or hate at first scent of it!! It's a pretty 'grown up' scent but not too grown up like les Mesdames Chanel No. 5 or Coco if you know what I mean?! Very Happy:P

To get a better idea of the scent, here's the list of it's notes:

Tuberose, Jasmine, Jonquil, Gardenia, Lily of the Valley, White Iris, Orange, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Musk.

The absence of Vanilla makes it less of a sweet fragrance making it even more sultry....God I really want ! I'm going to have to get this online from Sephora ($US65 -$95) compared to the Mecca's prices of($AUD150 - $220).

These are not new, but in my opinion, these are great, clean scents to sport: Decleor Aroma Spa Tonic, Chanel No. 5 Voile, Banana Republic "W",or Abercrombie & Fitch Women's fragrance.

Thanks Thoughtcrime! You're just too nice Smile I think I could go either way with this one, some heady ones are fine but some just plain make me sick.... Btw, have you tried Bulgari Au The Blanc? I think it might be one that you will like.

Ah... it all sounded good until I read "gardenia" and "vetiver". I suspect those two ingredients for making me sick when I smell Versace Jeans Couture (the original, not the Glam version which is beautiful!). It could really go either way though, depending on how much of that stuff is in there...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Mecca prices are obscene! Mad But.... I still want one to open up in Brissy so I can test stuff before I buy it overseas *attempts best impersonation of an angel batting eyelashes and looking all sweet and innocent* Smile

Hi Mabsy *smiles & waves*
That is too cute that you are typing with your Queen Helene mint julep mask on! *gushes*
I haven't tried Bvalgari Au the Blanc. I am looking for a new perfume though... I'll check it out. I know you loved Omnia, and although the bottle is gorgeous, it was another that I thought was too heady and strong. :P

Thoughtcrime,

For a change I'm writting this with a Thalgo mask on (smells yummy!). I really like the Mint Julep mask ..... with the exception of a few things. I guess I'll review it soon. I'd like to use it a few more times though (plus I'm getting a good work-out from trying to squeeze it out o the tube Smile).

I think the Au The Blanc is a very light and lovely scent, not like Omnia. Mind you I wear some spicy heady stuff so I guess it's all relative Smile I can see how Omnia could be one of those 'you love it or you hate it" scents though.

Mabsy,

I think my chances of getting Fracas are really slim, and I'm not caving to Mecca's prices-- they're INSANE !! Mad but then I'm a bit insane paying $AUD60.00 for a Stila lipgloss ! Where there's a will there's a way I guess... I'll just have to wait and make a special request when someone goes O/S. Sad...No way would I buy a perfume off ebay, no matter how much I wanted it... I'd read a bad feedback left by a buyer that the perfume got shipped without the lid !Surprised and yeah there's no telling how old they are.

A really gorgeous perfume I tried today (I tried two) was Bvlgari Pour Femme which was a gorgeous bouquet of white flowers -- and sooo feminine !! Surprised If you liked Life Is a Bed of Roses by Lulu Guiness Thoughtcrime, you should definitely have a smell of this one!! I didn't think it was too strong at all.. ..The other perfume was Wish by Chopard... I think I'm in love Mabsy-- it's similar to Angel by Thierry Mugler (which I like on others but would I wear it myself...?) but BETTER and no wonder! Looking up the notes in it, I saw Chocolate, along with Acacia flower, Gooseberry, Black violet, Pink honeysuckle....Oh yummm it's definitely a woody gourmet floriental ! The bottle is just gorgeous as well... Surprised I think this one will be on my 'wish' list to hint to my other half. Wink .....I tried the D&G Light Blue again and will definitely get this one, a gorgeous day fragance !

You guys would be happy to know that the enduring No. 1 fragrance is L'eau D'Issey by Issey Miyake.... loved by all women Universally. Very Happy

Summertimegirl,

Have you heard about Stila's pricing? They are supposed to drop their prices (overseas) early this year. I mean quite significantly too, by about 20-30%. They're trying to make it a more accessible/affordable brand, something more like Bloom for us Aussies Very Happy

Re: Angel - I can't wear it.... it gives me migranes Sad Sad Sad I wear Sonia Rykiel though and find that it is very similar minus the headache Very Happy

Mabsy,

Thanx for the cheery news ! GSurprisedSurprisedD !! I spend a fortune on their lipsticks and especially their delectable lip glazes (can't resist !) I hope the cuts reflect over here in Oz soon. I would love Stila to be as accessible as Bloom hehe! I'd go crazy ! Surprised The Stila Sheer Colour Tinted Moisturiser SPF 15 in medium was sold out both times I went to Mecca. Mad (very nice foundation!)

I don't have Angel either but I do want Wish both for the smell and the bottle...! :P
