This is a second hand review (well, partly) since I got this for my daughter. I'm a huge fan of Julie Hewett cosmetics--thanks Avalange!--and particularly like her lipsticks and cream blushes. When I saw the new spring Poppy palette, I immediately thought of my lovely 28 year old daughter and ordered her one. It contains a light, coolish pink eyeshadow, a melonish powder blush, the pinky-mauve Jami cream blush, and Mimi, a pink toned lip gloss. I've used the lip gloss before, as it came in another palette, and it's fine if you like lipgloss--but I don't, much. My daughter, on the other hand, adores lipgloss and says that for her, the Mimi is a perfect spring and summer color. I've also used Jami blush, which is slightly cool toned but very subtle. I gave it to my daughter because I think it flatters her more than me--I prefer Natural and Peachie, which are warmer toned. Honestly, though, it is fairly neutral and could be worn for a natural flushed look by almost anyone, I think. If I didn't have a lifetime supply of cream blush, I suspect I'd have kept my Jami.
The two parts of the palette that I haven't tried personally are the pale pink eyeshadow and the melony-peachy powder blush. My daughter says the pink eyeshadow looks terrific with a navy eyeliner. (I'll take her word on that, since pink eyeshadow isn't anything I can see myself wearing!) She also likes the blush, but if you are very fair, as she is, you'll need to use a light hand applying it. She uses a skunk brush to assure an even, light application.
Bottom line--if you are looking for a cheery, winters-over spring and summer palette, this one is a winner. |

flitcraft - thanks for the review. I'm like you - give me the warmer tones. I had Jami also and gave it to my 21 year old. I love natural and peachie and even Bette works for me. Jami was too rosy or something.
Where we differ is I adore Mimi - I am not a lipglosser but that one is a star in my book. Believe me I was surprised. It seems to make your lips fuller and lusher and it's not that gooey feel of kid stuff.
Poppy sounds like a nice palette though most likely too 'cool' for me. |

Jami has a kind of dusty-mauve tone in its rosiness, unlike Rosie, which is more of a pure, cool rosy tone. My daughter loves Jami with a taupe eyeshadow with a hint of plum in it--I think it is Nars Ondine. And I admit that she looks stunning in that combo. I haven't yet seen her in the pale pink eyeshadow with navy liner, but for those with the right coloring, I bet it is terrific. She says it makes her look more wide-eyed.
I agree, Sis, that natural and peachie are supurb blushes, and Bette is also surprisingly nice as another warm toned blush. The only new blush that I am still lusting after is the one in the Flight Essentials palette from IQ Beauty. But that will have to wait awhile, I'm afraid... |
