Wow - The first DaVinci Code reviews are in and they are quite caustic!!! I wonder if this is why they waited right up until release of the movie to show it at Cannes.
Yes, I read the book. I am Catholic (my mom used to send us to the Opus Dei in Boston on retreats!! Very lovely women there) I took the book for what it was - a work of fiction and had fun with it. I also watched the History channel's take on the book and the debunking of some of his theories...certainly it's gotten enough press to have a good opening weekend despite the less than stellar reviews.
Not a bad mystery.....not sure if I loved the way the Brown writes though. I can't pinpoint it - but, when I was a voracious Stephen King reader back in the day, I used to love his style of writing...
So, any readers of the book......are you going to see the movie?

I read the book and LOVED it. I'm really looking forward to the movie...to bad it got bad reviews.
You know, sometimes movies get so hyped up that it gets over hyped and everybody's expectations are way up there, and the movie just doesn't live up to our expectations.
Regardless, I will go see it, just because I read the book. |

| I work at a movie theatre and i really don't go by reviews...Silenthill got a bad review but i thought it was really good. I'm probably going to see it tomorrow evening at a sneak peek..im very excited. |

I read the booked and loved it too.
I never rely on the critics, everyone has a different opinion of what's good and not. |

I read the book. And read all of D. Brown's books... (the others are a disaster, except for Angels and Demons). I also come from an All gurl's Catholic School. Bur I read this book with an open mind. I like the interesting facts and theories; but did not like the ending. That's why I don't have much expectation in the movie. I will see it to see the ART  |

| Don't be shocked, but I only just bought this book intending to read it before seeing the movie.. but now I am wondering whether I should do the movie first and then the book. |

oops! i was going to see it here on opening night (pre-reviews), but there was a huge football match (arsenal vs. barcelona) that had completely taken over the city and.... well, thanks for reminding me. (the game was great, by the way  )
tiger_tim, read the book *after* you see the movie. as one of the few that doesn't know the story, it would be interesting to know what you thought about it as a movie. |

I too was raised Catholic (via nuns and Jesuits  ) and I had never read any Dan Brown books before I read the Da Vinci Code. I thought it was a good work of fiction, not literature, and enjoyed the speculation it raised because I think some of the issues he raises are very intriguing.
Yes, I'm definitely going to see the movie, but am not expecting too much. Hopefully, I'll be pleasantly surprised! |

| I read the book quite a while ago and do plan on seeing the movie. This thing has been hyped for months so it has a lot to live up to. I had never read any of his books before, but I did enjoy this one. It is a work of fiction, so I don't know why so many religious groups are up in arms. |

well, it is settled, no book till I have seen the movie.
It seems I will be the only one ni the world who can comment on the movie without having the book to fall back on
Probably a good thing... I thought Forest Gump was the worst movie ever made because the story just seemed so damned stupid after having read the HILARIOUS book (and I mean dont-read-in-public-unless-you-want-everyone-looking-at-you-like-you-are-mental-kind-of-hilarious) |

| i haven't read the book either. my best friend and sister both have copies and nag me to read it...but i figure i'll see the movie first, read the book, then see the movie again |

I have read the book and although I only tend to read true stories or biographies, I could not put this book down. I am off to see the movie. Just for entertainment!  |

| I just got back from seeing The DaVinci Code. I read the book quite a while ago and really loved it. I was not bored with the movie as some of the reviews indicated. It was long but I thought it moved right along and stuck fairly close to the book. Both my daughter and I really enjoyed it. I just think that the hype has been so great what movie could live up to it??? I would say go see it and enjoy it for what it is --good fiction. |

I am currently reading the book and have to say I am not terribly impressed, I am over half way through and finding it very predictable.
I also think it is nothing new so I am suprised it offends anyone. |

Yea, see that is why I have not read the book yet. I have one friend whose opinion on books I value and she said the same thing, so I passed. I only bought it since I thought I would read it before the movie. Think I will see the movie first though and then try and wade through the book. |

| I saw the movie this past weekend, I fell asleep thru some of the scenes. I think it was because I had already read the book and was waiting for the exciting parts. But it was a good movie, not bad. |

| I'm glad to hear you liked it too. I don't think any movie made from a book is ever as good as the book. They have done pretty well with the Harry Potter movies and Lord of the Rings but usually the book is always better. Why would this one be any different? And like I said before, the hype has been going on for months. |

Well, $70 million U.S. sales later....(I think it was over $224 million worldwide) it looks as though the movie goers are poo-poohing the somewhat tepid response from the critics!
I just heard that it opened second only to Star Wars third installment (Revenge of thesomething or other...  )
Dan Brown lives in the town next to me in New Hampshire (he lives in Exeter) and Tom Hanks was at the Ioka Theatre this weekend (downtown Exeter) where the movie opened there. I didn't even know he was going to be in town.
I am sure I'll cave and go see it.

I saw it this afternoon.
It was a little different from the book, but all in all, it was entertaining. It wasn't that bad!

| well, I haven't read the book yet, and I'm not going to do so either, because I heard already so much of it, that I know the whole issue and therefore wouldn't be too intriguing for me anymore. I took it as pure fiction, so cannot really understand why it should be "religiously incorrect", it's just a kind of "what if . . ." story. I read a lot, I'm a sort of book-junkie, but I'm often loosing interest if there is such a theatre about a book. So my option : I guess I just go to see the film and will never read the book. |

| Haven't read Angels and Demons. How is it related as a trilogy? Are the plots linked in some way? Only read Da Vinci Code and wasn't too impressed. I agree that it wasn't an original theme so it kinda lost its shine on me. Contemplating whether I should buy the Angels and Demons. Is it any better than Da Vinci Code? |
