WOW!! Today I tried a sample of DHC's Velvet Skin Coat. I put on Decleor's Matt Fluid, then this DHC primer, and then my make up. Then, I spent all day running errands in this awful heat. When I came home, I expected my face to have completely melted, but it looked exactly like it did when I had left earlier! Powder, blush, and concealer were still in place, and I barely even needed to blot. Not only that, but I noticed this morning when I put it on that it minimized my pores so much that I needed a lot less makeup than usual. Heck, I think I could have even gone makeup less! This primer costs about 20 bucks a tube, which is an absolute steal! I can't order it quickly enough!
If you want to try it, you can order a sample pack from DHC's website dhccare.com for $2, and it comes with a $5 gift certificate for future orders. |

OO tempting review. Do you have to email them specifically to request the sample pack? I tried wandering around the site to no avail. |

I have been wanting to try this but the shipping cost to Canada and duty charges more than double its price.
Liz- Have you tried Clinique instant pore perfector? I was thinking of trying this but not sure if the cones in it would cause more blackheads/breakouts? |

makeupfiend--- just click on the "request a catalogue" bar and it will take you to a page where you can request the samples.
tidieu--- I haven't tried the clinique primer (although I DID just purchase the monistat chafing gel, so I'll be comparing these two products within the next couple of days.), but I don't think that blackheads are a problem with this problem. I'm the QUEEN of blackheads, and this product hasn't seemed to make them worse (and it makes the ones I have MUCH less noticeable, thank goodness!) |

I LOVE the primer (better than Smashbox) and many other things from DHC. There's a japanese store in LA that has DHC, so whenever I can I go there. I love their olive virgin oil serum. |

The skin coat is nice, but I wouldn't recommend it underneath a MMU. I've used it via samples, and I think it's a wonderful product for summer, on those days when you don't want a lot of makeup on your face. |

Just a little update, I test drove monistat's anti-chafing gel out this morning, and it's nowhere NEAR as nice as the DHC stuff. For one thing, it doesn't make my skin look as good without make up, and for another thing, it isn't longwearing. (It's not even that hot today, and already by lunchtime my skin and makeup look like crap.) So, monistat didn't work out for me, and I will definitely be ordering the full size of the DHC primer! |

manslayerliz, what kind of makeup do you wear over the DHC? I'm pretty partial to my JI MMU, and I'm wondering if it would apply well over it. |

I wear L'Oreal Air Wear concealer (delightful stuff!), and then I use L'Oreal Air Wear Powder Foundation. I would like to wear mineral makeup, but I still haven't found one light enough for me. This one seems like a good comprimise, tho, since the high concentration of zinc oxide in it makes it a step toward mineral make up. Anyway, as much as I love the coverage of this powder foundation, it CAN tend to settle into fine lines, make rough spots or healing blemishes more obvious, etc, but with this DHC primer, it goes smoothly over everything. BUT, just to be sure I would DEFINITELY recommend spending the $2 to get a sample. You also get 10 other samples of fun stuff to try, so even if you end up hating the primer (which doesn't seem possible to me), you might find other stuff you love. (The sample pack of primer lasts for at least 5 or 6 uses, IMO!) |

Ok, if you're already wearing a powder foundation over it, then I would think MMU application would wear similarly. Nice! Do you find that the DHC prevents the powder from settling into fine lines as much? |

Yes, it definitely helped my powder foundation to look smoother, and less line-y. Frankly I love the convenience of a powder foundation, but I've never liked the fact that it makes my almost non-existent lines more prominant, so this DHC solved that problem for me in a big way. (However, because it's a powder-gel primer, if you already have dry skin I'm not sure but it might make it drier so you might need a little face moisturizer first. Like I said, I start with Decleor's Hydra Matt moisturizer just to give my skin a little drink before I apply the primer and makeup) HTH! |

Just wished DHC made the primer tube a little bigger. It's $20 but I'd be willing to pay more if the tube was bigger. But it's worth it.
I'm using the DHC liquid foundation (this one is for dry skin)and it's very nice. Goes on very smooth. They also have one for oily skin (water base foundation) but for some reason when I applied it, my skin was left with a powdery residue. So I'm going to return this. I thought since I have oily skin that the water base would be better but it wasn't. |

Does anyone know whether this DHC primer would block our pores? After i apply it on it feels like there's a film across my face and my skin cant breath. I know its silicon based, does it clog pores? |

Actually, I stopped using this and all products containing silicones because I figured out they were clogging my pores. Now that I don't use that stuff, my skin looks so much better!! My advice would be to use some sort of powder primer (like Jurlique's silk dust) under mineral makeup--- your skin will be much happier! |

My pleasure! Actually, I would say that this stuff has its time and place: for emergencies ONLY! It will clog your pores like no tomorrow (after one day of wearing it I get like 5 or 6 clogged pores, UGH!!!), but if you have a special occasion that you really need your skin to look nice for and your skin is looking really bad, this stuff will help. For example, back in October my skin was in ROUGH shape and really broken out, but I had to go to my DH's cousin's wedding and meet all these relatives for the first time, so I slathered on a thick coat of this stuff and then followed with my foundation, concealer, etc. It helped me look passable for the wedding, but I paid for it afterwards... |

Such a shame - I've been tempted by these wonder products before, and always ended up with terrible skin afterward. |

Sounds great!, definitely something I need to keep my makeup in place. Even my beloved ModelCo Face Base is starting to feel a bit greasy on my face these days for some reason.
I really wanted a sample of this but I just realised it looks like they don't ship to Australia! |
