Hello, I haven't posted in ages but my 14yr old daughter seems to be having problems with blackheads. However her skin seems dry and is very sensitive. THe blackheads appear mostly on the cheeks and are quite large, but the pores on her nose are very fine and there are no problems there. The only cleanser she can use without turning bright red is a Mirenesse Multi action cream cleanser. I spot treat the blackheads with a 10% glycolic mask but wouldn't dare put it all over her face. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated Smile

Hi Very Happy ,

i think blackheads can't be cleared instantly, you should choose one good cleanser which is not dry.. pls see Autralia brand name Aeso one, i fould it is good because my cheek skin also easy get red and sensitive too. Regard to blackheads, i used Avene Cleanese K which contain BHA..sth like that, that may a bit itcy for your daughter.. I just apply it twice a week on my nose. and i found the blackheads are less.. Smile

Hermione,

Dry skin can form blackheads.

I am not sure where you are, but if you are in the US or CA you may want to wander over to www.iceelements.com and order the samples of their 2 minute miracle exfoliating gel. It is extremely gentle and as well as exfoliating to remove the dead skin cells that can clog pores, it is also hydrating.

While you are there you may want to chat with Brenda or Shelly about your daughters skin and see if perhaps their line would be beneficial to her. I am using it and I love it... and the basic anti-aging kit is very simple to use. I am purchasing one for my son for his skin too.

If she is fine with the cleanser she is using then I would stick with that, try treating the blackheads with witch hazel, this has astringent & antibacterial properties.
At that age her hormones will be all over the place, Zinc supplements, Fish Oils and a B Complex would help her skin heal from the inside.
I read somewhere that teenages need supplements more than adults due to their bodies adjusting from childhood to adulthood.

I cann't confirm this but i've heard that stripping your natural oil too muck will trigger your skin to produce more oil which may lead to clogged pores.IWhy don't you add hydrating in the regime. In my case,oily-sensitive skin, therapists at Leonard Drake gave me gentle exfoliation( to get rid off dead skin cells which might clog pores) followed with hydrating mask.Well, the exfoliatin part cause me more break out but after the session the milia and blackheads were gone. Smile Hope this help!

I have been going to the steam room to clear up my congested skin and it really helped. The steam room helps open up pores and draw out impurities.

For dry sensitive skin, there is a really good product by Dermalogica called Gentle soothing booster. It eliminates redness as well as moisturize without clogging pores.

I can contest to the fact that dry, dehydrated skin causing blackheads. Seems like I had too much oil and that was causing my blackheads, so what do you think I did. Slapped on the BP and used every over the counter cleanser containing various acne prone testimonals. Well guess what, I found from a suggestion from SHELLY at iceelements that my skin is suffering and I needed to lay off the drying agents. They were in fact causing my blackheads. Well guess what, I did and now I have less and also now that my skin is not so dehyrated, those blackheads that are left from my "bad habit" are easier to remove. All that dead skin made them IMPOSSIBLE to remove...now a little cleanser, warm water and soft touch...they come right out.
